  1. Am I crazy to think Byron Nelson has a shot? They had a nice sound last night, but they’d have some serious visual cleaning to do.
  2. Just figured this out myself, the ballad is Oblivion by Astor Piazzolla. Boston Crusaders played it in ‘08.
  3. ? it’s been a minute since I part of the scene. I like the switch a lot. In my mind it was still just the woodlands doing it.
  4. I just got to see Coppell’s show and I was so surprised and impressed to see how well they’ve developed the visual side of their shows. Also they have contras now? I wonder if they’ll eventually replace sousaphones as the mainstream option for even Texan bands.
  5. Hit my DMs please when you get a chance
  6. I don’t think I realized how little Marcus had on the field, but I absolutely love it so far. Musically they’re regal and under control, with such a beautiful and transparent sound. The ballad was particularly lovely in that aspect. Also these are some really great arrangements! Visually the guard pops and the two red and yellow soloists work so well. This is a great show.
  7. Big block coming up after the break. Did I somehow miss Forney?
  8. Really good, Hebron. The music sounds super clean. I think it’ll all look better under the lights.
  9. Memorial seems like a band with a lot going for them in the future. Pretty cool closing drill there.
  10. Your call time must have been absolutely brutal my friend.
  11. This may not end up Hebron’s weekend imo. Their production seems incomplete still, hopefully we’ll be seeing another layer added on Saturday. FloMo on the other hand, has a capital S Show. Not everything lands for me, but they’ve got huge full ensemble moments that just explode with GE, both musically and visually. When flower mound is marching in a block there isn’t a more aesthetically pleasing sight in all of the Texas band world. Plus that opening statement? That’s going to KILL in Indy. My favorite FloMo show by far since vitrify.
  12. No official results posted yet, but the top three were 1. Hebron 2. Rockwall 3. Rockwall Heath
  13. I marched in this one “back in the day.” Other than the tuneup for Hebron, I’m looking at John Horn, Garland, and Poteet for this one. I don’t think it will be scored competitively though. Also can’t believe we didn’t get a schedule until today! @ Mesquite Memorial Stadium 10:15 AM - Tyler 10:30 AM - Commerce 10:45 AM - Canton 11:00 AM - Kaufman 11:15 AM - Sulphur Springs 11:30 AM - Crandall 11:45 AM - Naaman Forest 12:00 PM - John Horn Lunch Break 1:15 PM - Kemp 1:30 PM - Grand Saline 1:45 PM - Edgewood 2:00 PM - Rains 2:15 PM - Malakoff 2:30 PM - Eustace 2:45 PM - Palmer 3:00 PM Break 3:15 PM Break 3:30 PM - Terrell 3:45 PM - Caddo Mills 4:00 PM - Mabank 4:15 PM - West Mesquite 4:30 PM - Greenville 4:45 PM - South Garland 5:00 PM - Poteet 5:15 PM - North Forney Announce Ratings for 2A/3A/4A Dinner Break 6:45 PM - North Garland 7:00 PM - Mesquite 7:15 PM - Rockwall Heath 7:30 PM - Garland 7:45 PM - North Mesquite 8:00 PM - Rockwall 8:15 PM - Hebron
  14. My vibe from the show was kind of an Avon’s Black Gold (a show title and design that is somewhat self referential in nature) meets Blue Devils’ Ink (a theatrical telling of a more or less made up story thru guard members). The theme leans more towards writing than traditional art (like paintings) imo.
  15. Keller was a pretty big band by the time 2020 rolled around, I wonder where their membership is now. Looks like they certainly didn’t slip much, if it all, last season. Saw a clip on YT
  16. Gonna need some band parents to step up this Friday at the Hebron vs Flower Mound football game and bring us a scouting report
  17. Vandy drumline remains undefeated
  18. CTJ...that was scary good. What day is it again? The opener book is the toughest, most high velocity drill I’ve ever seen from a high school.
  19. The Woodlands’ guard is amazing
  20. Hebron very quietly dropped their show title via press release a few days ago: “Penstriped.” Community preview show is on Saturday at 11.
  21. I remember one BOA Dallas back in 2013, it was probably a little less hot than it is right now in McAllen but the effect was much the same. One of our quad players fainted marching off the field and nearly cracked the back of his head open. Too bad we can’t get more indoor venues for these contests.
  22. I’ll trade someone a Hebron vid for a glimpse of CTJ lol, I’ve been looking forward to hearing them. edit: dang, you guys weren’t kidding
  23. This may be the best woodlands show since 2013 (in my opinion). I’m gonna be so sad if they end up pulling out!
  24. I was at that game too! Pretty cool to see a marching band on a baseball field. I believe the show title was “Pinstripe” or “Pinstriped.” And yes, that Church Windows hit was something!
  25. It’s possible they don’t want to “tip their hand” with only a few weeks to grand nats, with a show that’s likely more demanding than the average year and on an extended timeline in terms of cleanliness. Or perhaps just getting to use those days for rehearsal is reason enough. No matter what, I’m expecting big things from them.
