  1. Oh ye of little faith- unless I am mistaken, the winner is determined in a single night? Things can change a lot between now and then.
  2. It will be a glorious day indeed!
  3. Lmao. If Phantom Wins, we should throw a party- a huge friggin' party.
  4. they have no hope this year- I mean, just look at who wrote thier show. Lol, burnnnnnn
  5. You know what would be totally badazz? If for finals they dawned the black uniforms one more time. And the hat thing. And the leg thing. All of it. And lasers and explosons. (Jk, of course, lol) but yeah, Faust is an amazing show- very possibly my favorite DCI show (musically) out of all of them.
  6. No solos, but we have two duets and 3 or 4 trios. The duets are both.... how do you say- orgasmic? But the first one is especially nice. You'll see... oh yes, you'll see.
  7. Lol, sorry, I would've responded sooner, but I've been out of town for a few days. I actually wasn't trying to be nearly so caustic as I now realize the message comes across. I suppose I took the mock-seriousness a bit too far- indeed, there is little to no indication I was joking. Sorry bout that, and of course, they shall be respected... unless they are real cocks, in which case I would imagine you guys have enough sense to handle them. But hey, conratgulations to all who got.... errr picked for the jobs, if I havne't already said so.
  8. Well then, strictly speaking, you pretty much just need to maintain then, huh? But on the other hand, you seem to have missed the point entirely. Still having trouble? Well, you see, it's sort of a figure of speech- you know, not meant to be taken literally. That is to say, the word fascism was used not to indicate that all points of definition from a certain online dictionary are fulfilled, but rather to arouse the ideas and feelings that facsism is associated with. For the layman, I meant don't do dumb stuff like lock threads or delete them entirely just because a debate/arguement has developed there. Just as an example, though- in case you thought you might be clever again and play around with deriving literal, yet unsound meaning from my post. Edit by Xenon: Muahahahaha
  9. Lol, greeaaatttt..... word to the wise- all new mods (and old for that matter), don't be fascists please.
  10. Well, we actually have a pretty large design team, but for these two specific positions JD Shaw is our arranger (Phantom Regiment arranger) and Jeff Gentry is our drill writer (I dunno where he hails from- he is just sorta there, but he's cool).
  11. I actually wasn't all that big on Reagan's show... it was Ok, but it really bogs down in places. This isn't uncommon, but still, I wasn't a huge fan of it or anything. I did really like Richland's show though- they usually have cool stuff, and this year wasn't any different.
  12. So you're saying we need to cool down the air in the stadium.... a helluva lot? "Man that's some slow sound!"
  13. That's true, but the term is a rather accurate depiction of the overall tone of what is BOA. This has arisen greatly from the fact that their scoring system has such a high emphasis on General Effect which has fostered the specific style of shows associated with the program. And what I meant was that the BOA organization places a lot emphasis on just the fact that you participated and worked hard, whether or not the show turned out well. While this ideal may be a very good strong foundation for your run of the mill high school band, I imagine that elite corps such as the Cadets have a higher standard of performance. Of course, this standard may be subjective, but in my opinion, their standard of the overall production, the show that is, has been significantly lowered to incorporate half-baked new ideas. True, the ideas are perhaps well thought out, but the very thought of something being new has become greatly disproportionate in importance as compared to its effect on the show as a whole. While this instance is a good example, I am now of course speaking in more general terms as this mistake is much more widespread than just the Cadets or a couple of BOA bands. However, as far as things have gone this year, I think we are seeing that unlike the Bands of America, the Drum Corps judges are not fostering such ideologies. As long as things continue this way, new ideas like these will be put to the appropriate tests and either fostered or destroyed through a sort of trial by fire. It's surivival of the fittest among DCI, and because of this truly good ideas can evolve properly instead of being stunted by upstart tumors of bad ideas that metastasize quickly and strangle quality out of programs in favor of innovation. I can only hope other programs will follow suit, and that the Drum Corps will mantain their course.
  14. Lmao, you may take offense to this, but that was said just as I would expect from a big-tim BOA competitor. I suppose I am a bit conservative- or maybe I just think that when you 'innovate' that it should be for the good of the show. Many of the things they did were detrimental to the show. I must say that I did like the singing in the ballad, but all the percussion breaks and dancing and whatnot were ultimately excessive to the point of being disgraceful. As far as I'm concerned, the Cadets just wasted this season. Not that I care- the Cavaliers, Regiment, and Devils definitely have good enough shows to make it a very interesting year. Of course its good that the members work hard- no disrespect to them. The show designers are the ones to be blamed for this.
  15. Yeah.... I.... lost my book too..... that's why I need a scan. Lol, or maybe I just don't want to drive up to the bandhall to grab copies... ah well. Anyways, PDF scans are very welcome!
  16. Cool! Ya'll (or ya'll's arranger) better not butcher it or I shall be very disappointed!
  17. Ahhh, Cavies are back on top, and Phantom is back in front of the Bluecoats... all is right with the world once again. Lol, but seriously. The Cadets show was, in my opinion, a farce. I actually enjoyed the singing in the ballad- I htought it really worked very well. What i didn't like, however, was the fact that they had so much time of people just dancing around and a long perc feature- they seemed much like a wannabe BOA band, which I personally do not like, especially coming from a corp. Anyways, the show overall was in my opinion, a bust, and its no wonder they have dropped so far in the rankings. The cavliers had a very interesting show, lots of cool interactions and whatnot- a few gimmicks, but not way overplayed like the Cadets. They used them with finesse, and they added to, not took away from the show. Their marching was astoundingly good overall as well. They were significantly cleaner than any of the other corps. The Blue Devils were cool- not anything especially amazing from them, they had a nice balance of marching and music well, but like I said, nothing spectacular. Although Phantom didn't execute as well as those that beat it (in my opinion, it got the place it deserved) I loved the show. Their music was very well arranged and was very intense and didn't bog down like many shows seem to in the middle. Plus, their low brass and mellophone lines seemed especially impressive to me. The horn rips in the opener were magnificent. Their drill was more interesting than some, but not as much as others, and their marching performance was mediocre- not bad, not great though. I thought Madison should've overtaken the Blue Knights- but hey, that's just me. Boston Crusaders... not much to say about them except for the fact that they have almost exactly the same uniforms as us. Carolina Crown was better than I expected.... Glassmen had an interesting show I thought. (If I remember right, they are the ones who march for a few measures without playing anything. I tohught this was particularly effective) SCV.... that guy walking around the field was hilarious and very distracting really. Can you imagine if you did all that work and tried out and got into SCV only to find out that while everyone else is doing some awesome drill and whatnot, all you're going to do is walk around the field? Lmao, he got jipped. Anyways.... Capital Regiment was very funny too. Their show was quite entertaining. Oh, and Spirit was a lot cooler than I thought it was going to be. (edited) But yeah, Phantom's show was my favorite (at least the music was).
  18. Can you answer a question with a question?
  19. If anyone else want s arecording I have a link to a download for it that's quite convienent.
  20. Yeah, but this is a little worrisome; This is the day before's scores SPIRIT of America, Jacksonville, AL DIVISION I 1 Phantom Regiment 87.750 2 Carolina Crown 83.850 3 Boston Crusaders 82.650 4 Spirit from JSU 80.200 5 Pioneer 65.750 Notice, they dropped a significant amount from the day before. Hopefully this is just a fluke, and not evidence that they have either flatlined or are even backsliding. We'll find out Saturday for sure though- and some of us will be there. Lmao, I'm just givin you a hard time of course though.
  21. Yeha, definitely. The etudes when I was a freshman were really hard, and actually still are for me to this day. I dunno if you remember this one, but the fast etude that year that had all the minor arpeggios and repeats ands stuff (it was in B minor) was really challenging. The other fast one (that started on a G on top of the staff and went down in 16th-16th-8th patterns) wasn't a walk in the park either.
  22. Yeah, and things would cool off a lot in that one firey pit... what's it called? You know, where people go when they die in certain instances?
  23. Alrgiht, let us see what we've got here... NOt bad beginning... lol, I'm not sure what those portamentos are supposed to be played on, but nevertheless.... You've generated a nice chill track here. Happy, but not cheesy. I can definitely respect that. It seems to have a bit of tropical or jungle (not the techno genre, lol) influence too. I really enjoyed the section right before and after the 2 minute mark. Lots of action before, and a nice french-horn line after wards, pretty good brass work after this too. The next secion... first off, if you can, get a better tubular bell synth. Lol, but a mundane detail this is. Anyways. The imitation is alright, but a little over used for my tastes. At around timestamp 3:40 you start a build up, and starts out well, but it sort of peters out before it finishes. I wold suggest you go back and take a long hard look at the end and see if you can't get it to continue increasing intensity at at least the same rate as earilier in the buildup. After this you follow up with a nice, bare section. I like the feel there. Afterwards, you have a more marching show type section, fanfare/opener feeling thing. I like it pretty well- this style is a little overused in my opinion, but well written here nevertheless. The next section, the slower one, is quite nice as well. Lol, more imitation at 6:35, but this time it is in more of a counterpoint/canonic context, so it is much more interesting. Good interactions between the imitations- very well done here. A good, but not outstanding slower section afterwards. I do like the next, more atmospheric part where the flutes begin arpeggiating; it's got a nice smooth texture. Full band entrance afterwards... nicely done. The non-diatonic notes near the beginning of the trumpet solo further in sound out of place (timestamp 8:39). I understand you were probably using them to try and introduce a new sound and pull into the next section; however, throwing them in to such a harmonic section without altering the chords in other instruments at least temporarily to match is a little jarring, at least to me(although I must say the very first solo entrance it hsa I like the small but noticebal tension it brings- after this first one though, you went a little too far with it in my opinion). However, after this it seems to go very smoothly, slowly pulling towards the end. I like the section at 9:51- cool background runs etc. to accompany the tubular bells etc. The ending is sufficient; however, after such a long piece I would think you would want something a bit more epic, or louder, or perhaps quiet and mysterious rather than just finishing the motif as you already have many-a-time. I could be wrong though. Overall a very nice job. Only a few fairly minor problems, but hey, definitely an excellent first piece posted. I enjoyed listening to the piece and I hope my critique helps you out. Look forward to more.
