  1. Trance by nature is too light for my tastes. There are certain branches that aer considered heavier, but that's only heavier in relation to other trance, which isn't saying much. And it's all considered 'techno', per se; that is, Electronic Music is refered to as techno and it encompasses a plethora of other genres such as house, breakbeat, jungle, D&B, hardcore, trance, IDM, experimental, industrial, and a few others. Although, that's just its connotation as far as I understrand it. There are a few sects who refer to it as a subgenre on its own, but I am under the impression that such ideas are in the minority. And a question about the 'repeating rythms'- this work includes a vast amount of variation in comparison to the vast majority of trance. Perhaps you could provide a sample of something that includes more variation? I mean, D&B Odyessy contains both a 7/8 and 5/8 sections; such assymetrical type meters are (as far as my experience tells me) all but nonexistent in Electronic music (other than perhaps IDM; but its a black sheep of the froup anyways). EDIT: I forgot to mention, if you want rythmic variation, I suggest you check out some IDM, especially Aphex Twin; they have a very interesting style that has atmospheric drum&bass influences, and lots and lots of crazy snare work. Take a look at this: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=12...58&q=Aphex+Twin It's their song '4'. It's pretty sweet.
  2. I've never been a big fan of Haltom... I dunno why really, I just never have seen them perform and think 'Wow, that was pretty awesome'.
  3. Naw man, trance is like that, and darkstep/jungle drum&bass is like that, but this is a newer branchcalled 'intelligent D&B"; that, and technical step are both much mroe interesting. Trance is too soft for me I'm afraid. I've never been much for House music really. And thanks; I would suggest that if you are using FL studio to produce that you go out and do some research on third party VSTi instruments like Hypersonic and PSYN and the such. The prepackeged VStis for FL are not exactly top of the line, although you can do ok with them. The Sytrus is the exception to that; it has incredible potential (unfortunately it is also a CPU hog). But anyways, try searching for torrents and stuff for other Vsti's- otherwise they'll clean you out for them.
  4. Can't T-Bones play louder though?
  5. Alright, check it out; I just finished a little weekend project; It's entitled D&B Suite Mvt IV: Drum and Bass Odyessy. As you may have guessed, it is of the D&B persuasion. For those of you who are not familiar with this genre, it is a branch of the familiarly called 'techno' label that is a faster, heavier and basically a lot more kick a$$ than any of the other branches. Anyways... just listen and enjoy. D&B Odyessy
  6. As she said, it would be impossible to observe the extras directly; at least within the ideas of string theory. This is because firstly, as she mentioned, they are curled up tightly with in each other, and secondly because they would be located at the intersection of string matrices and would thus be smaller than the Planck length, the smallest possible length within the confines of our existence. That is because anything smaller than this length reaches a point to where there is quantum fluctuations to such an extent that it is impossible to derive anything meanigful (this is often refered to as 'quantum foam'). Plus, there is the whole issue of how to look into the other dimensional directions anyways. INdirectly though, they believe that they may be able to find indications of these extra dimensions in real world deviations from the Inverse Square law.
  7. Perhaps if you all would read my post, you wouldn't repeat what I've already said. That is, except you haven't said anything about the nature of higher order spatial dimensions in the much more contemporary String/M Theory.
  8. Well, really it would be more like them walknig along and then looking up and going, 'Hey... there's more to this...'. That is, if dimension progress in the normal sense. When one considers the ideas of multiple dimensions, as in String/M Theory things get a bit hazy. They curl in upon each other and distort wildly, but they are curled into loops far too small to be experienced by other than the loops themselves. Then there is the whole issue of time versus spatial dimensions.... but we all know what time is like. Anyways, to draw a conceptual 'hypercube', or more properly titled, Tesseract, do this: Draw a point. Draw another point. Connect them. Now you have a line. Draw another line. Connect them at the end points. Now you have a square. Draw another square. Connect the two squares to each other's corresponding corners. Now you have a cube. Draw another cube. Draw lines to connect each corresponding pair of vertices on the cubes. Now you have a Tesseract.
  9. I'm afraid I'm going to hold you liable now for me having to gouge my own eyes out.
  10. Please note that this song has now been updated, but is not yet finished. Thank you.
  11. He does have some really good stuff, but there are a lot more composers to contend with around the world than there ever has been before. I would not say he will be taken as one of history's greats, partially because, as previouslyu stated he hasn't really pioneered much in music; at least not to my knowledge.
  12. That first statement is not what he meant at all. That's an idiomatic expression that means that no one can be sure of whether it will happen or not this year, as opposed to them winning has not occured. That's exactly what he meant.
  13. Well, it sounds like all he would have to do to be better is a couple of basic jobs and not be an ***.
  14. Heh, I'd just be happy to know our own show right now.
  15. Subway? Are you kidding me? I can make my own sandwich, thank you very much. Arby's is ok ever once ina while. Actually, they're all ok once in a while, but if you go to often they get... well, lets just say you won't have a taste for them for a while; at least that's the case for me.
  16. Lmao, it's still made out of chicken, just not the usual parts.
  17. LOl, maybe for you; I still have Physics, for which I need to learn thermodynamics by monday.

  19. Yeah, us either. Luckily I was self-taught before I took the class. Except for dictation and sight-singing; which were the scary parts.
  20. Just took the AP Music Theory test this morning. Some of it was scary. Really scary....
  21. I understand your second point; stagger breathing (or perhaps circular for some) would definitely be key there. As to the first suggestion, it is an ostinato; it is meant to not be changed and is a unifying rythmic component for the actual fission parts of the movement. At the beginning, when there is order among the system, there is a simple compound 3/4 setup with a basic quarter note pulse. The fission section, however, is a 4/4 setup with a 3+3+3+3+2+2 eight note pulse over two bars. There is then a return to earlier melodic ideas, featuring a modulated version of the oboe solo, then a pure restatement of the intro featuring the 3/4 pulse. Shortly thereafter, however, the melodic idea is imitated by the trumpets, but it is diminished such that it is twice as fast. And now, it is in 4/4 and it is soon modulated and set upon the backdrop of the 3+3+3+3+2+2 pattern, and slowly forms into the sax solo, which decrescendoes into the trumpet trio, and the second movement. I appreciate your suggestion and other comments/compliments, but on this topic I had a very precise intent, and so it is essential to the music's integrity that I keep the rythm constant in such sections.
  22. Haha, gotcha beat Peter.
  23. Right, I usually don't say that. I understand what you mean.
  24. You know what song is really awesome? Pictures at an Exhibition. It has such a range of styles and odd techniques. Very cool. That Lux song is pretty sweet too... Who wrote it?
