Good job Hornrank. I didn’t think they should have dropped after SA since they didn’t compete but do think they ended up where they should be.

I think the ultra competitiveness at the top in SA is causing the opposite effect. I think we are seeing more of a trend of Texas bands choosing to finish their season at non Texas Super regionals then non Texas bands coming to SA. The chance of making finals and performing twice is better for some really great Texas bands in Atlanta, Indy, St Louis or California. I can only recall 4 or 5 bands making the trip to SA in the last 6 years while Texas has 4-6 bands attend out of state super regionals every year recently. I would love to see more non Texas bands come to SA but I just don’t think it will happen.

As a guy who drove a prop truck from North Dallas to Indy and back I have to say that is a long drive..... Good luck to all bands!!! Be safe and enjoy every minute of it.

I don’t really think so. Unless you think Marcus improving since Southlake is a surprise. Them winning music at any competition is always a possibility. They’re Marcus and going to Indy this year.

Very well stated!!!! This year is so deep we are talking about 3-4 bands competing for 2-3 spots rather then 4-6 bands competing 3-5 spots. This will be a epic year until the next one.....

Here are the top 16 as they stand on Hornrank for Texas bands. It says a lot about the bubble, or lack thereof. Has there ever been a smaller bubble? The fact that a band as excellent as Keller is speculated as the last band in finals is crazy!! I don't think Atlanta will have much affect on SA so let the predictions begin... I know this is said every year but I would be scared to be a judge at this thing....... I have been thinking about scores and have a question for the experts. Midland had a bunch of great bands and one "powerhouse." Johnson comes out on top with a 90. Well deserved, great band and incredible show. Fast forward to SA and it has a bunch of great bands and a slew of "powerhouses." My question is are scores pushed down in a SA setting? Is judging comparative at all? Or do judges judge each band individually and move on to the next band. I ask because I see the term "the judges had to leave room", or band X played earlier and that hurt their score. I do not know the answer but is some level of comparison involved? I would guess there has to be but in theory there should not be. Second question. I believe they switch judging panels between prelim's and finals. Is it a totally new panel or do they just shift what they are judging?(Music moves to GE, Visual moves to Music, etc.) I think we will see some very high scores.

I did not see the Avon drop coming after a very close competition. I guess after seeing all of the top 6 bands the thought is Flomo, Johnson and Hebron may be slightly ahead at this time? Makes sense, I have not been following non TX bands so not sure. Kudos to Bowie and Hendrickson. Well deserved!

I highly agree. There are going to be A LOT of incredible bands fighting for 4 or 5 spots. It is just that competitive this year.

Here's my guess. Avon will stay at 3 because there was no finals and they split captions. Carmel will move into the 6 spot vacated by the Woodlands. Vandy moves to 7, Reagan to 9 and Leander remains at 10.(Or Marcus at 10, Leander 11) After 11 is where the shuffle will be. Where to put the Woodlands, Bowie, Hendrickson, Round Rock etc? It will be interesting to see what "the formula" puts out.

Once again keep doing what you are doing. The rankings are perfect and cannot be improved upon. Do not change a thing.

Look, I am a fan of Hornrank and what they do. I am just saying that what a band did last year has no bearing at all on what they do this year. Rankings are a snapshot in time. Did Flomo have a great year last year? Absolutely!! They won this contest one year ago by almost 4 pts. That could be a record. This year they placed second which has nothing to do with what they did last year. Zero. The Woodlands won Grand Nats in 2013 and took 5th at SA the next year. Leander didn't make finals at SA in 2013 and took 3rd place the next year. My point is that the second a band takes the field in a new season what they did last year cannot affect what they do this year. Only what they do in that first contest and what they do in the future should be considered in a ranking. You can use last year as an indicator but not as a data point. Are these rankings based on finals or prelims and don't all bands have huge growth potential at this point? I do not have a horse in the race. All of these bands are crazy good. I am merely voicing my opinion on the rankings. Keep doing what you are doing and I promise I will not comment on this again. THX

Interesting rankings for the Texas bands after Southlake. Not sure of the rationale or reasoning but it is what it is. Usually head to head leads to a clear result. I would have had it either Johnson, Hebron, Flomo or Hebron, Flomo, Johnson. Depends on which band one thinks is further ahead in the process. Should be interesting after Conroe.

When do these rankings come out? Every Friday? Haven't been looking at them in a while. Thx

I checked out of those rankings when they put Flower Mound ahead of the GN champs. Originally their rule was the GN champ is alway #1 so when they placed Flomo #1 they were basically saying that if Flomo attended Grand Nats they would have beaten the actual champ who did attend AND win. I took that as a clear bias, not to mention insulting to the GN winner, in the rankings and checked out. Had they placed Flomo at #2 I would have had no problem.
