  1. Ditto. Bad year for those guys.
  2. But keep in mind that Marcus has a tradition of excellence that goes back quite a while. Bad years for them have mostly put them in the middle of finals not at the bottom. Not that it couldn't happen, but I would think that it would be very unlikely that they wouldn't be in the finals.
  3. My same thoughts. I decided that I could get more bands in by staying home and flipping around between shows. If I go to Waco, I can only see those bands. It's a totally different experience watching online, but you don't have to deal with the rain, heat, sun, talkers, nearby know-it-alls, tall people in front of you blocking your view, and the monetary expense with attending onsite. I save that for the bigger shows that I just want to hear in person.
  4. I have a Gaffney, Orlando, and & Waco combined schedule for any channel-flippers out there. I skipped adding Canton as it is a very small show. By the way, the first Orlando band starts at 6:15am. Might have to watch that first block while still in bed... 2018 BOA Gaffney, Orland, & Waco Combined Schedule.pdf
  5. Okay, not my point. Just because someone feels that a judge or judges are incorrect - someone with far less knowledge than the judges, doesn't make them incorrect. That's all. Judge do make mistakes and I do not lionize them.
  6. So you're a band director or music major or something that would actually qualify you to question these trained and knowledgeable persons? If you are, then please elaborate and give more detail on how the scores were incorrect. If they were and you know the difference, please let us know just what errors were made.
  7. 1st - Round Rock (90.1) 2nd - Dripping Springs (88.85) 3rd - Belton (82.575) 4th - Connally (81.5) 5th - Seguin (81.1) 6th - Clark (74.8) 7th - Stony Point (73.1) 8th - Akins 9th - Cedar Creek 10 - Laredo Martin Sorry, did get the last three scores.
  8. And what qualifies you to make this statement?
  9. Yes, actually, you can. The judges are using completely different criteria than you are to make their assessments. For them, it's not a matter of liking a band, but measuring against a standard - their standard. These guys are educated and experienced in this field and are able to judge more fairly than most of us. I may not agree with them sometimes, but respect their scores.
  10. Nice job, Pearland! Good to see these guys are still on an upward trajectory this year. If they can fix the sound quality and ensemble sound issues, they may have a good shot at the SA finals.
  11. Sure, it's their right to do so, but if you don't relate well with your audience, or more importantly the judges, then you unnecessarily pay a price for it.
  12. Didn't care for Flower Mound's show. Being weird to just be weird is not enjoyable to me. The "outside of the box" experience from them is getting old. Give me something like their 2016 show any day. Maybe I will like it better after I see it a few more times. Maybe.
  13. Ambitious musical program for Waxahachie. They have a ways to go yet, but I applaud their effort. I have always wanted to hear the Nelhybel on the field. Hard enough to play sitting down.
  14. I have a Bedford, Conroe, and Jacksonville combined schedule if anyone is interested. Sorry, had to share via Dropbox as the file was over 227K. 2018 BOA Bedford Conroe Jacksonville Combined Schedule.pdf

  16. There's actually a lot more to making such changes, but I like your optimism.
  17. You said that much nicer than I was going to. I've heard several un-knowledgeable band parents barking this nonsense lately and am very tired of it.
  18. I'm thinking about going. If I remember correctly, Round Rock has only missed 1 year of this contest.
  19. I was just saying that these two were the big contests back then. I attended them both through those years. Anyone going to Westlake?
  20. That CTJ trombone quartet is the finest thing I heard all day.
  21. You have the right to be happy with what they are doing now, if you so choose. If someone else that was also in your band is not happy with it, that is also their right.
  22. You have a right to express your frustrations with a program that you were once in. There is obviously something different going on now. They were 3rd just last year here with a 81.95 and are last this year with a 73.55. Whether this is acceptable to this year's directors and band is yet to be seen. You don't need to apologize for being honest.
