  1. I'm thinking about going. If I remember correctly, Round Rock has only missed 1 year of this contest.
  2. I was just saying that these two were the big contests back then. I attended them both through those years. Anyone going to Westlake?
  3. That CTJ trombone quartet is the finest thing I heard all day.
  4. You have the right to be happy with what they are doing now, if you so choose. If someone else that was also in your band is not happy with it, that is also their right.
  5. You have a right to express your frustrations with a program that you were once in. There is obviously something different going on now. They were 3rd just last year here with a 81.95 and are last this year with a 73.55. Whether this is acceptable to this year's directors and band is yet to be seen. You don't need to apologize for being honest.
  6. Same props from their WGI colorguard show last season.
  7. Pouring rain, thunder, and some lightning.
  8. I was most impressed with Vista Ridge so far. Hope this rain stops!
  9. I was most impressed with Vista Ridge so far. Hope this rain stops!
  10. Sitting on the 50, row 17, ready!
  11. And please bring an umbrella! It can't rain if we all have umbrellas. And a raincoat or poncho. And maybe trash bags to keep your stuff in. The more prepared we are,...
  12. I'm hoping it will be like it was in McAllen and clear up completely. Even in the morning the forecast was 60% for the evening, but by about 1:00 is was changed to 0%. Whatever you do, don't wash your car this week!
  13. Using that same sort of analysis comparing CTJ directly against Carmel for the last 2 years - Carmel won the GN's both years and CTJ got 9th in 2016, so it would be more likely that Carmel would be ahead at this point. To me, none of it matters except this year and what's being done currently. I like both bands, but thought that Carmel, overall, was the better of the two on the 22nd, regardless of scores. I watched them both and used my 50+ years of experience and my formal music education as my basis for making that assessment. Scores are a snapshot in time and can change. Austin will be another opportunity for comparisons.
  14. Fair enough. I wasn't making my assessment judging by enjoyment, which is an emotion, but by potential scoring. Thankfully, judges don't score strictly by emotion, but by a more analytical approach that makes their assessment more fair and consistent. There is always a human element, of course, which is useful as well.
  15. So let me get this straight - your proof is that Centerville in two different years and with two different bands, at two different competitions, with two different judging panels made different scores is proof that CTJ making a 79.8 at McAllen is a higher score than Carmel getting an 83.3 in Oxford on the same day? Anyway, my initial post was just teasing LeanderMomma for using an absolte and stating that there was nothing better that she had seen that day than CTJ. I do respect her opinion and was just giving her grief in a playful way.
  16. Thanks for your wisdom, but 3 points is a pretty good margin between contests. Not only that, but I understand why Carmel scored the way they did and that is my real measure.
  17. Think the judges were incorrect?
  18. I hear you on that! But, if you do the 1-year subscription, you get all of the BOA season, all of the WGI season, and all of the DCI season for $150. Hard to beat that!
  19. Except maybe Carmel (83.3)...
  20. It's determined by scores, so there is nothing to pick. They all three had the same visual scores (Bowie, Marcus, and LD Bell). Marcus got music and GE as well.
  21. But it is just one day at one competition at the beginning of the season. Things can change if the directors and students want it bad enough. Disappointment can be a great motivator!
