  1. I both love and hate electronics. They have added so much to the marching arts, but when they don't work, they are truly a pain in the butt. It's so hard to start your show when there is obvious issues and it delays the start. Leander did a good job of putting it behind them. Speaks volumes about their focus.
  2. Wow, Vandegrift! This is the most musical band so far in this competition. Great Job!
  3. The flute soloist for Panther Creek is amazing. Also the best effort I've ever heard from this band.
  4. I think it's easy to overreact to the first really good band of the day. That and not realizing that there are others to come that are measurably better.
  5. I didn't say in medal contention. It was very good. Guessing bottom of the top half or top of the bottom half. Too many issues with this show for medal contention.
  6. See you in the finals, Mason! Great show.
  7. I think that going into this competition, 8 bands have proven themselves to likely have spots in the finals: Avon H.S., IN Carmel H.S., IN Claudia Taylor Johnson H.S., TX Hebron H.S., TX Leander H.S., TX William Mason H.S., OH The Woodlands H.S., TX Vandegrift H.S., TX And making a guess, the following are contenders for the last 4 spots: Ayala H.S., CA Brownsburg H.S., IN Center Grove H.S., IN Fishers H.S., IN Harrison H.S., GA Homestead H.S., IN James Madison H.S., VA James F. Byrnes H.S., SC Lawrence Township, IN Marian Catholic H.S., IL North Hardin H.S., KY Panther Creek H.S., NC Park Vista H.S., FL Round Rock H.S., TX Union H.S., OK I'm mainly making this guess from previous competition results this season.
  8. Kind of cool that Milford HS's entire football team was there to watch their band.
  9. Killer last block today - Can not wait!
  10. Not since they added 4A, except there has been 1 AA in 2014: 2014 - Tarpon Springs - AA 2007 - LD Bell - AAA 2006 - Broken Arrow - AAA 2005 - Carmel - AAA 2004 - Lawrence Central - AAA 2003 - Westfield - AAA 2002 - Lassiter - AAA 2001 - Lawrence Central - AAA 2000 - Marion Catholic - AAA And others before 2000
  11. Awesome! I've been several times and it is an experience of a lifetime. Have fun!
  12. I don't know about anyone else, but the opportunity for Texas to have half of the Grand National finals spots really excites me. I'm not saying it will happen, but the opportunity is there with 5 of the bands making the finals in previous attempts and the only first-timer certainly more than capable of making it. Can't wait for this one!
  13. I can't for the life of me figure out why you are on these forums. You hate BOA AND Texas bands. You push outdated things like NAMMB, which is almost dead, and complain about everything that is not like it was or is in California. This is TXbands not CAbands. We like our Texas bands and are proud of our kids. You are of course welcome to post your opinion like everyone else, but you really don't seem to be enjoying yourself here. You may want to take a good long think on that one.
  14. I would really like to know the statistics on Flomarching viewership as far as how many nodes are watching tonight and at what locations. Flosports, if you are listening, please publish this!
  15. And the trombone quartet! Best part of their show.
  16. Marcus' oboe soloist is incredible for a high school kid. Such a mature sound and such control, especially in the high range. Their trumpet soloist, the small ensemble, and entire ensemble is so musical!
  17. So glad to see Pearland in the finals for the first time. I've been expecting this from them for years. Glad it finally happened. Beautiful ballad!
  18. I find this and many of your other comments stupid as well. Please stop bitching about everything you don't agree with and can't accept. No one asked you to come here. It was a better place before you did.
  19. And this is coming from an old dude. I've been doing this marching band thing for over 50 years. I've seen a lot of changes and hate to see something as insignificant as a time penalty at Region keep someone from their chance to make State. It's not like when you get a time penalty at BOA and that keeps you out of the finals. If you're on the bubble in the prelims, that is ultimately what kept you from making finals, but getting off late at region keeping you from going to Area is ridiculous.
  20. That's what I love about UIL - you can perform a 2 and get a 1, but if you're late getting off of the field, you get a 2. Rules, inflexibility, and tradition are making UIL less popular every year. UIL, keeping old men and old ideas important in the band world...
  21. The Roku stream doesn't have those ads.
  22. Vista Murrietta is likely to find out that what's considered good in California is very different than what's considered good in Texas.
  23. They should have, if they didn't. Coppell was clearly better today.
  24. I still have Reagan at the top, so far.
