slightly higher angle of Arcadia. I just think TWHS has a higher ceiling with what they are doing this year. Can’t wait to see the reaction in UD for the ripple towards the middle with the rifles under the benches. Arcadia has a polished product that is beautifully done from an aesthetic standpoint. Definitely have a leg (or 8 🐙) up on movement analysis. Gonna come down to GE preference!

design analysis was actually Arcadia's best caption at SD. can now see why. clean, clear, logical, correct, connected, musical. tbh expected that to be the case based on the designers and what i saw downstairs. woodlands is def a lil more chaotic... well, in the opener at least, when the flags are kinda distracting and i dont know where to look. gaudy pink practice flags don't help. other parts are fine. def they have the kids running around more than in arcadia, which on the one hand is rlly impressive, but need to be careful w/ that, w/ clarity and timing. find woodlands more effective overall, just a much bigger emotional impact, with plenty to tickle the brain and eyes as well. buuut the effect judges could lean hard into aesthetics. thinkin that's prob what happened b/w Carmel and Tarpon in 2023. don't really know how else to explain those effect results, when Tarpon clearly gave a better performance of a more emotionally impactful show, that clearly connected more w/ the audience. felt a lil contrarian tbh. like, c'mon man, those kids killed it!!! either one this yr b/w A&W would be a first-time champion, which id be thrilled with. warren central would be a first-time medalist, which would also be super cool. been a looooong time since we've seen a top 3 w/o Avon or Carmel.

I have seen Carmel twice via livestream, and I have to say from a design point it’s very similar to Arcadia. Lots of slow, ballad moments without much in terms of in your face impact. I would not have them in first. Right now I’d have Woodlands, Arcadia, and then a pretty big gap to Warren Central/Carmel for 3rd.

This is exactly how I feel. I enjoyed the show from a story wise but felt wanting more in terms of big weapon/standout moments where as TW’s have the complete opposite. Haven’t seen Carmel yet but if TW’s are as clean as normal come Dayton I seem them as the front runner by a good amount, I would imagine GE scores will rise with a cleaner show though I could be completely wrong lol

  6. Me, too! I'm finally going to get to watch a live show from Texas! Also, the contest that has Paramount and Etude, I believe. There are lots of awesome groups traveling to Austin this weekend. Almost like the WGI version of a state championship, if we had just a few more of those top DFW guards here. Nevertheless, there's stiff competition in both Scholastic A and Scholastic Open. I genuinely don't know who will win either class! (It certainly doesn't help that I've seen very few of them. 😅)

I somewhat agree about the "message shows". On the other hand, I respect people whose mode of artistic communication is more direct or even confrontational, especially since it does risk being called out by people like us for its lack of subtlety. For me, more than anything, watching the Scholastic Worlds from this past weekend, I find myself wishing for more "up-tempo" shows. Much of what we've seen is quite slow or mid-tempo. I would prefer more variety.

aaaaand El Dorado https://youtu.be/n171jAT9KUc?si=GZAmCTy8V0iulIwG solid performers. show doesn't do anything for me however. kinda over slow, inspirational "message" shows in general. give the message to me more obliquely, more poetically. show, don't tell. just my opinion.

The various scholastic A classes in the local circuits, like AA, A, and National A, should be comparable, as long as the scores are rendered by the same panel at the same contest. They use the same sheets. National A is simply for the higher scoring ones -- the ones most ready for National competition, I suppose.

    UIL 6A Area I 2025

I agree with the exception of JET. I do not hate or anything, But they in Katy marching keep falling behind both Jordan, 7L, and sometimes Tomkins. They have done the same for the past 2 years in the area. BridgeLands, Cy Woods, and CyFair are a lock 7L we will see Jordan beat them at the Katy cup last year. Depending on how seasons and shows play out we could see the return of Cinco or another smaller band like Langham Creek into the mix. Area I is one of the most competitive areas every year for this reason.

There's no clear way to compare the scores between the various classes, if that's what you mean. Even between Independent and Scholastic in the same class (like Scholastic A versus Independent A) scores can't be directly compared. Typically, pretty much always, if a guard is reclassified to a higher class mid-season, their scores will drop a bit, since the standards are higher in that class. Do NTCA scores relate to WGI scores? Well, they use the same sheets with the same box criteria, so you'd think there should be some overlap there, but often the scores and placements moving from local circuits to WGI can be QUITE different. I have noticed that local circuit judges will often "fall in line" with WGI after there has been a WGI contest, although even that doesn't always happen, as we saw at TCGC Pearland this past weekend.

and another close up arcadia. worse view than last week's lol the performers are fab, just a few issues to iron out from this angle. still wish the overall concept and soundtrack were, uhhh, just a weeee bit more engaging. craftsmanship in the choreo def there tho. my gut shifts back to a woodlands win thru equipment and effect, buuut i reaaaally need to see this one from higher up, esp for the effect.

Not super surprised Warren beat Carmel. Rough run from Carmel, plus a noticeable hole in their weapon line, but I really like Carmel’s show. I hope they beef up the ending though, could do something cooler with the props maybe.

  23. if u finish 1st or 2nd in A at a WGI regional, or 1st in Open, u have to submit a vid of your guard to WGI. Dale (guard division director), Karl (education coordinator), and Curtis (chief judge) vote yes or no after carefully considering the skills of the unit. if even one of em votes no, the guard remains in the same class. if all vote yes, the vote expands to the larger steering committee. a simple majority of yes votes there will cause the guard to be reclassified. Emerson should at least make semis in open methinks. that's the rough definition of having "marked success" after reclassification, what the committee aims for.
