I am gonna say it at this competition wakeland is unbeatable. Sure they might lose a caption on some iffy performances at 8 am, but they have only been beat by 4 top 6a bands this whole season in finals (Hebron, flomo, Marcus, coppell by .135) they got beat by ld bell and westlake in prelims but thats just because of their early performance time compared to going right next to them making it easier for the judges to decide.

But with three music judges at area those caption awards they've lost makes it more plausible for other bands to come close to them.

not any of the bands in area b at least. the closest runner up would be lone star, and wakeland would only have a chance (probable not even) of losing music. visual and ge isn't even a question.

It is enforced at Area and State Prelims, but not State Finals.

If there is an 8-min time limit, then why design a show longer than 8 mins? Some bands start before announcements to be within the limit but then I believe that time is not included in the judging (that's how I understand it anyway), so even if you have nailed down an absolutely great opener, it doesn't count and that's a waste. So why design a long show? Is there a disadvantage to having a show that's less than 8mins? Do judges (consciously or not) dock points for having a short show? Again, new to all this and just genuinely curious and trying to learn the intricacies of this fascinating activity.

They don’t have GE at Area though. And guys, do remember in 2019, Lonestar did win Area prelims, winning ALL 3 music judges, and then Lebanon won finals. So I don’t think it would be impossible for someone to do it, as it happened just a few years ago.

Judges were wack that year look at the state results. Just like last year vista beating vandy at area then opposite happens at state

Yeah it was all over the place but it’s not to say something like that couldn’t happen again, but yes I know that stuff like that happens. Regarding Vista, Area was definitely their best 2 performances and probably their leek, but I do get what your saying.

Many of the bands design shows for both UIL and BOA and BOA is more liberal on the time allowed.  With longer shows, they may leave part out for UIL, or start early and have "preshow" that is performed before the 8:00 clock starts by design.

so for BOA is it more desirable to have a longer show? Is the objective to maximize time on the field?

Is the 8 min time limit only enforced at Region? I thought I had read somewhere that the time limit rule is a bit different at area (or was it state?). And to add on the confusion, also different at BOA?

I am sure you didn't read that anywhere for Area. The only difference is in State Finals, where the timer is cut and not running.

Hmmm would it be better if the Area contests adopted the 7-judge system like at state? What do you all think?

This doesn't seem very realistic. There would have to be 70 quality/qualified judges for the 5A area weekend alone. State only required 7 total (and they were among the best of the best). I think finding 70 (including percussion specialists and music/visual content design) would be almost impossible to pull off.

Any news on Finals?

I got word from a friend that the first half of prelims is(might be the wrong order

and this is performance order not rankings!!!

1st: Lonestar/Lebanon

2nd: Lonestar/Lebanon

3rd: The Colony

4th: Centennial

5th: Lovejoy

again, not rankings just what I'm pretty sure it is but we will have it soon I'd imagine, but I can confirm the are the first five bands to perform tonight

okay everyone, I have come to the conclusion that this year, at least for 5A, they are doing prelims placement are reverse prelims placement. If you look at this area and area C, it kind of makes sense. The best bands are going towards the front (what everyone considers the best is somewhat different, but the general considered best bands are going earlier). For area F however, it seems like they did reverse prelims results for finals schedule. This is very interesting... lots of new changes that I don't remember being informed about, not a complaint just interesting.
