Very true. Especially for Heath because I'm pretty sure the band has never made it to state in years past (correct me if I'm wrong). This contest could very well turn out completely different than last year.

Last year was their first year making area finals (at least for 6A). They’ve never been close to making state before so it could be very exciting.

Correct, only the OWB has made it, back in 2018. Heath's stock is most definitely on the rise, but I think they are still about a year or two away. It'll be very interesting to see how they fair with Duncanville.

Now if we can go from a 5-1 to a 4-1 rule for state advancement, def next year. I would normally say realignment, but the last cycle actually gave these smaller Area C bands a chance, but it did come at the cost of the detriment of anyone in Area J not named the Big 3 or Prosper. DFW bands are so good that I don't even know how you would fairly balance any of these areas without taking away state spots.

Going back to one of my earlier posts, Tyler Legacy was .2 points behind Duncanville this past weekend. Either Duncanville fell or or Tyler Legacy should be included in the state convo, and Heath has consistently beat them considerably. That's why I have them in 4th or 5th along with Sachse

So for the bands on fall break next week. Do they still practice everyday or no? Seems kind of silly to put UIL at the END of a fall break.

Looking through some of the bands schedules, most practice 2 to 3 days and it's between 3 and 6 hours a day. I'm assuming the 6 hour day bands split into outdoor and indoor blocks

If you were on the forums you would have seen the immense hype John Horn had in 2018. People really did believe they had a shot at 6A finals.

I believe percussion is between Berkner and Forney but I could also see waxahachie picking it up since they just sweep the contest.

Just watched it. You can go to You Tube live broadcast of Desoto at Duccanville and scroll back to halftime. 
 

Not the best views because cameras were not filming how any of us want to wash a show but you get the idea.

WFAA definitely upped their game on the sound quality, but the pit is still too hot on the mics, so you still can't hear the woodwinds or brass properly (sad day).

Heath, North Forney, and John Horn all sounded fantastic! Heath is comfortably in finals here, and potentially in the state convo?? North Forney and John Horn could both play spoiler for an area finals spot.

So yeah I think it's safe to assume that Duncanville is out of the state conversation; they maintained their prelims position in finals tonight - behind Grapevine and Lake Ridge. Sachse had some dirt in their finals run, but they took care of business and finished either 2nd or 3rd in every caption tonight (they were comfortably ahead of Lake Belton). The battle for 4th is definitely between them and Rockwall-Heath (or one of the Richardsons); I honestly don't know how that will go down.

BUT, if I had to pick right now, I'd give the edge to Sachse.

Speaking of the Rockwall schools, Rockwall is a LOCK for me now, especially with how Duncanville has faired this year. And they may be closer to Forney than we think (they tied in Music Performance and beat Forney in Visual Performance tonight). As for Heath, they did fall back behind Rock Hill, but they placed above some really good bands, notably Walnut Grove, Reedy, and McKinney North (although I heard MN had a not-so-great run). Regardless, they continue to impress me every week and I am excited for the trajectory of this program!
