Yeah I think later times are almost always better than early.  Only negative to your prelim performance time is the heat.  But y'all are young and strong, you can handle it!

If I weren't headed to Dallas that weekend I'd seriously consider coming down and watching this.

Could shake out something like this..

  1. Moe & Gene Johnson H.S., TX
  2. Ronald Reagan H.S., TX
  3. Claudia Taylor Johnson H.S., TX
  4. James Bowie H.S., TX
  5. Dripping Springs H.S., TX
  6. McNeil H.S., TX
  7. Westlake H.S., TX
  8. Foster H.S., TX
  9. Robert E. Hendrickson H.S., TX
  10. Jordan H.S., TX
  11. Louis D. Brandeis H.S., TX
  12. Winston Churchill H.S., TX / Tom Glenn H.S., TX

Never rank again… jkjk but in all honesty there’s almost no way moe and gene comes out on top. And with how ctj did last year I don’t think they rank that high. Plus y’all are sleeping on the San Antonio schools (besides rr and ctj) last year Brandeis got 5th at finals and got 3rd in the 4a caption and from what I’ve seen Churchill, Soto, and Steele aren’t too shabby themselves. But who knows maybe some random school like shoemaker will come out on top

Prediction: going to make bold assumptions here

1. Ronald Reagan Hs (or maybe a dripping upset)

2. Dripping springs Hs

3. James Bowie HS

4. McNeil  HS

5. Westlake HS

6. Louis d Brandies HS

7. Moe and Gene Johnson HS

8. Hendrickson HS

9. Claudia Taylor Johnson HS

10. Churchill HS

11. Jordan Hs

12.  Steele Hs

first out:

Sonia Sotomayor HS

Foster HS

I believe Reagan getting first the safest outcome for this Boa, but it is definitely not a given. Dripping being the returning champs, I can definitely see an upset happening. James bowie is going to be amazing and can maybe even win. The top 3 will be extremely competitive. McNeil has a chance for top 3 if they really push it based on how they made finals at boa San Antonio. Westlake is going to be in the top half of finals no doubt. For the last spot in the top 6, I put Brandies. They showed that they can consistently compete at this top level from last year. They also beat Claudia Taylor Johnson and Moe and Gene last year. I wouldn’t be surprised if they come out as a major wild card. Hendrickson at 8th because I haven’t seen enough from them. With Moe and Gene’s amazing new director and Brandie’s just getting way better every year, I haven’t seen anything that really gives them the edge( I’m probably wrong but will gladly watch them be another potential wild card). Johnson at 9th is really sad for me to say, but I don’t know if they have the juice anymore. They have been really inconsistent lately and to be honest they can either come and shock everyone and make top 3 or just continue to sink. Churchill is 100 percent a finalist no doubt. Jordan, don’t know much about them but seen the show last year and yeah, I’d say they have a great shot at fitting in nice in finals. Steele being the last pick. Amazing show last year and the staff are  great teachers that definitely will push them.

This Boa is going to be one of the most competitive of the year. Any of the top 3 can end up winning. And 9th to 4th are going to the closest point margins ever.

This is probably the closest prediction that I’ve seen

I’d just love to see MGJ there with their show! I wonder how much volatility we will see this year compared to the past few years. Early season I don’t think anyone would’ve been able to predict 7L in state and BOASA finals or CTJ being beat by some of the bands they were beat by. Plus it’s an early season show so who knows!

Wait... We still have to be at school at the butt crack of dawn. Its a 3-4 hour bus ride so 7-8  Is our arrival time. Not bad but not good

I now also realize that this is a god awful time. Heat of the day in full uniform...

Any one got videos? I'm new to this contest and never heard of half these bands...

Oh you’re in for a treat💀 look at Reagans show from last year plus the top five(Reagan wasn’t at this comp last year) from last year, which would be dripping springs, James Bowie, McNeil, Moe & Gene Johnson, and Brandeis. Some of the schools aren’t very notable because they haven’t made much of a name for themselves yet. But yeah this year finals is gonna be crazy cuz there’s more schools and better schools competing. Like westlake and all of the good San Antonio schools(Churchill, Steele, Soto, ctj) That’s already 10 schools that I mentioned and there’s only 12 finalist spots, so yeah it’s gonna be fun

(Mainly look at Reagan and the top 5)

Feel like McNeil is being a little undersold in some of the predictions here. They're one of two programs at this contest that made finals at San Antonio last year. Obviously upward momentum isn't always guaranteed, but I feel like a medal is more likely at this contest than some of the predictions are saying.

Hi! We have only ever been to BOA Shenandoah, but we are going to San Marcos this year. Does anyone know if the finals schedule is the same, where they typically start at around 7 PM after prelim announcements? I am getting mixed information saying finals could start the next morning. Thanks!

The schedule has been updated as of 9/10. Check out the original post for the latest schedule.

(Drop Burnet and Del Rio. Gonzales now performs at 7:24 and others in the first block shift similarly with Louis D. Brandeis at 8:48 being the final band before the break).

Here's my final prediction for this comp, have not seen most of these bands:

1. Ronald Reagan

2. Westlake

3. Dripping Springs

4. McNeil

5. James Bowie

6. CTJ

7. MG Johnson

7. Hendrickson

8. Brandies

9. Foster

10. Jordan

11. Hutto

12. Piper/Winston Churchill

As far as captions, no clue. I'd imagine Reagan will sweep but honestly, I could Westlake maybe taking music or visual, or heck maybe the win, idk. They had a fantastic showing yesterday at Austin. This is gonna be a great comp and I'm super excited to see how it shakes out.

It will probably be a Reagan sweep, but I'd be thrilled to see Westlake surprise us again. It will be interesting to see if a different judging panel feels similarly about them. It's so subjective!

yeah, I just want to see how Jordan does LMAO a
