Tubalord11 Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 Coppell was amazing! Did seem a little lack of energy towards the end but still pushed through….though I think Wakeland took them tonight. That drum feature with the two basses on the tenors, so clean and cool. Opening hit was so big, and while it’s not my favorite show for them they are still so so good. Amazing job Coppell! Quote
TrenBS Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 Im just hoping in since I havent been able to watch anything today band related, but I am shocked at the prelims results in regards who made finals, was not expecting McKinney, Ben10 (thanks Tubalord for that sick abbreviation), and to a lesser scale LT over schools like Reedy and SLC. Regardless Im impressed with McKinney High for getting one over McKinney North at a BOA competition, although I don't have to watch to know what was probably the biggest flaws in the show, being visual general effect and music ind/ensemble due to earlyish dirt. Im also surprised to see Wylie over Prosper in prelims, I could only think Wylies Visual was over Prosper since they stay in the same box for a lot of the intro and staging isnt really as effective as Wylie. packwick Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 i haven't seen Coppell, but "lots of choreography" makes you think lots of movement, no? as a former marcher, i would argue that the dance stuff is much more challenging than marching. marching is just modified walking, after all. these days judges are absolutely looking at the variety and range of the individual movement skills. tbh wouldn't surprise me if some guard-leaning IndVis judges comment on dynamic efforts from the musicians. and i would agree w/ that, give credit where it's due. MarchingMafia Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 Holy cow Marcus! Watched prelims on TV and it did not prepare me for THAT! They never stopped moving and that percussion feature has me jumping out of my seat. Quote

Both seem to be mostly features with interspersed band accompaniment which is mostly park and bark. Coppell in particular is a flute concerto with minimal movement while playing. Lots of choreography. I thought the same. I like big sound in a marching show so the more lyrical pieces aren't my jam. I also tend to look at how much they're playing while on the move and whether they can maintain sound quality while doing it. When they're not moving it's not really a marching show. Quote

FullRetreat Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 These results really showcase how much weight is given to GE. You’re telling me SLC would’ve been 5th and Walnut Grove would been 10th without GE? That’s a MASSIVE difference from the 13th and 16th placements they each received. Whether or not GE is something you agree with or not is up to personal opinion, but it sure does make a huge difference. Quote
Marchingbandlover Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 Next for most of these bands is region and then area for UIL, with that here is just the musical and visual scores combined and ranked of each band from prelims to give a bit of perspective on how areas could turn out, still a lot of possible movement Marcus H.S. – 35.225 Coppell H.S. – 34.200 Wakeland H.S. – 33.850 Forney H.S. – 33.050 Southlake Carroll H.S. – 32.775 Lone Star H.S. – 32.450 McKinney H.S. – 32.300 Wylie H.S. – 32.275 Prosper H.S. – 31.950 Walnut Grove H.S. – 31.725 Lebanon Trail H.S. – 31.525 Burleson Centennial H.S. – 31.500 Braswell H.S. – 31.475 Rockwall H.S. – 31.275 McKinney North H.S. – 31.000 Rock Hill H.S. – 30.600 Rick Reedy H.S. – 30.450 Little Elm H.S. – 30.025 Liberty H.S. – 29.850 Rockwall-Heath H.S. – 29.750 Melissa H.S. – 28.600 Commerce H.S. – 25.500 Whitesboro H.S. – 25.400 Also just my thoughts on today, very happy for Lone Star reeling back from 11th last year and showing what 5a finalists can do!!! Popular Post dfwhorn Posted October 12, 2025 Popular Post Posted October 12, 2025 Wow what a great turnout and results for this contest! I know that a lot of people talk about that finals zone, but there was a giant bubble in prelims. 7 bands (RH, WG, RW Heath, Reedy, LE, Liberty, and North) all scored between 72 and 73 points. That's how you know TX is a bloodbath! astronautika, JFNDOWBFAN and E1. 3 Quote

Popular Post Tubalord11 Posted October 12, 2025 Popular Post Posted October 12, 2025 Good morning, everyone! Yesterday was great, every band gave it their all and it showed. As far as finals scores/placements, I had most of what happened except I had BC way to low lol, not surprised they got 8th go, top half was what I had. I think my biggest shock from prelims recap was North in 20th. I personally think that while they absolutely kill the jazz-styled show, I feel like they need to change from it and try something new. The students are absolutely executing the heck of the shows, but I just don't think, maybe just for BOA but could be for UIL, that style of show is going to keep them at the top. Ofc I could be completely wrong, but that's just my two cents. This happened last year at this comp where they missed finals, and they made it to state finals. But when you have that many visuals to clean and make sure everyone is perfect, not a ton of variety in style and dynamics and a good chunk of the show being solos/small ensembles features...idk, I just feel something needs to change. Again, this is nothing on the kids as everyone was jamming out and very entertained, which may just be what they are going for. As far as SLC, it happens, especially in this competitive environment. I don't necessarily agree as I thought the GE was there, but I still think they're in a great shot to make state and semis and grand nats. Everything else seems about right, not super far off from what I had. Everyone brought the heat, and I think bands like Heath, WG and Reedy should be happy with how yesterday turned out, all should do very well at their respective areas. Again, congrats to everyone who competed yesterday, it was a great day of band, and I can't wait to do it again next year! CosmicLimbo, E1., OGFISD99 and 2 others 5 Quote
