2nd time in the last 8 years... maybe they'll get to go last in finals like they did in 2018 after going first in prelims. Who am I kidding. Just hope they get top half after this. Of course with Keller and Vista Ridge going off right after, it makes the early morning must view.

hmmm id be more worried for em if vista ridge, who i think will come out near the very tippy top of this contest, weren't right there in the schedule too. juuust have to show that they're kinda sorta maybe near vista musically lol. flo mo ain't too long after either.

i think they'll set the bar for the day really high, my hope anyway. 🤞

I think so too. I think they won't be too far behind in music to Vista Ridge, and have a shot to top them on that caption. I think visually they'll be fine, top 5ish on the day would be my guess.

This show is an order of magnitude stronger than the 2018 show. We were all mentally prepared to not make finals that day, so when they were called out as the last band to perform in finals it was a strong moment!

I'm excited about this State line up!  Some crazy good show concepts and band programs!

I'd be interested in the knowledgeable people on here to go through each performance block and talk about/summarize each band - even the lesser known programs. Let's give every part of the state some attention.  Each program must have something worth talking about in this forum.  Let's hear from you all!  What does West Texas know about the Houston areas?  What does DFW know about the RGV?  Let's give some insight!  I'd love to learn.

I believe that the full prelims will be available on demand via NFHS right?  Working to help our band load/unload and get their props on the field does not leave much time to watch all the other bands.  But I caught up last year a few days later…lol.  I wish they made the area prelims and finals available on demand too!

Really tough draw for Keller, who has been in finals every year since the creation of class 6A (not counting Covid).

Any hope for Dawson? They did beat Pearland in brass at Area Finals but that’s pretty much it

I feel like they have a strong chance, they could be like 19-13 maybe? Just hard to tell with the crazy deep competition

I anticipate a couple always-finalists slip out this year in favor of fresher finalists (namely Dripping Springs, MGJ, and LDB). These groups have been near finals-caliber for many years, and all 3 have the design, performance, and mid-season results to justify their bid for a finals run this year. Of course, Reagan and Keller have earned that incredible reputation built on late-season cleaning, and I should know better than to ever count them out of state finals! I could also see Westlake returning to state finals. Regardless of how it shakes out, it’s going to be close!

Looking at it now, those last 2 maybe 3 spots could be sooooooo many different bands. And yes ik so and so beat someone at area but that doesn’t mean anything. New contest, new scoring system

I wouldn't be so quick to blow off Area results this year. The judging format is now much closer to State by having individual WW, brass, and percussion judges vs. 3 overall music judges. The only difference now is no music ensemble judge and no content/design judge at Area.

Yes, u are right, but you also have to take into consideration that they are going up against even harder competition. Many of the areas have bands that we already know will make state. Take Bell for example. I think it was far to say they were a lock, but let’s say B and J was one area, they could have probably finished in the 6th-8th range. And again, some bands will have cleaned more than others, but again you are right. I think people use them to strongly and then don’t understand when a certain band doesn’t make finals

I was very impressed with Dawson this year and thought they could have beat Pearland at Area (after seeing their prelims performances).  But I’m not a judge, so who knows?

Im really interested in seeing how Vista Ridge does this year especially after taking over Vandi at Area H. I think they have a strong chance at a title this year and I'm all for it. Im also excited to see how well Dripping springs does with their competitive area D run securing 2nd place!!! This year truly is an excited year for marching band!

I would love it if Vista did! I'd say they have a really strong shot at top 3, Vandy usually peaks around this time but that isn't to say they can't be beaten again, but Flomo is going to make it very hard
