There is always a few judges that have random stuff like Langham in 5th in a visual score.

It goes to whoever has more head to head wins. So 3 judges had Katy ahead of Ranch so Katy was in 10th

The adults are doing the best they can for everybody involved. 
 

Our Area (C) postponed until Tuesday and then the Mesquite area was dry on Saturday 🤦‍♂️

Jordan total - 43

Tompkin total - 46

Langham total - 46 

Katy total - 47

The reason why Katy was placed higher than ranch was when they had the exact same score was Katy had 4 judges who scored them 10 or higher and ranch had 3 judges who scored them 10 or higher so that’s why Katy scored higher 

same thing with Langham and Tompkins where Tompkins had 3 judges who scored the 10 or higher while Langham had 2 judges who scored 10 or higher which sorta explains the overall tiebreaker between these bands I'm pretty sure

I feel terrible about this entire contest. Don't get me wrong, it was fun to watch a few good performances, but man did that suck overall having to watch children be forced into not positive performances, and for most of them, finish their seasons that way.

Good luck to the groups going to state and look forward to seeing Area I hopefully represented in State Finals too!

Bridgeland was hosting this contest and I volunteered, so I can shed a little light.

First things first, Bridgeland was just providing volunteers. Not at all in charge of high level decisions about the contest. That is the state UIL and the venue is operated by CFISD employees who were voluntold to participate.

i think that uil and CFISD did the best they could under the circumstances. They can’t control the rain and they cannot afford domed stadiums for all the area contests. That is a financial and logistical impossibility. 

they provided indoor shelter to the bands that were stranded in the rain, inside Berry center. They covered instruments and equipment the best they could. Tarps were used for equipment left in the parking lot and for front ensembles on the field for Cy woods. Who by the way eventually won the contest with all equipment seemingly working as it should. All volunteers, uil, and CFISD employees worked together to make the best of a bad situation. 
 

yes, the students didn’t get to put their best foot forward. But there were a lot of positives. For one, the kids learned to deal with some adversity. As a parent I don’t necessarily want  my kids cruising through their teen years with no challenges where they have to rise to meet the moment. That is what champions do. That is what everyday heroes do. That is what adults have to do. Strange scoring/judging  debates aside, that is what cy woods did, and congrats to them for doing so. As a volunteer who directed the students off the field after performing, I didn’t encounter ONE sourpuss kid. They were all clearly tired but focused, and consistently polite and respectful. “Yes sir no sir thank you sir good luck to Bridgeland sir.” I saw social media videos on Bridgeland’s page with all the Bridgeland kids high fiving the Katy kids as they headed out to perform. 
i think ALL of the bands had a hard night and they all rose to the occasion, if not in victory or in advancing to state, then to being a total class act in difficult circumstances.

Band contests aside, this music community is raising some great adults, leaders, and human beings of tomorrow.

Very wise words. I was waiting for your take on things. And Woods is so grateful for Bridgeland rescuing our kid’s phones from the rain! Y’all are the best! Congrats to all the bands.

Congratulations to Cy-woods, Bridgeland, Cy-fair and Seven Lakes on advancing to state!! Obviously not a normal flow for an area contest, but happy everyone got at least one run in! Really wish we had had one more so the Cinco Ranch could have gone, also a little shocked with Jordon but you tend to have weird results when dealing with bad weather. Congratulations to everyone who competed here yesterday!!

having to move an entire marching contest is a logistical nightmare to begin with, it is inconsiderate and unreasonable to "just move" finals because of all the stuff that needs to be sorted out with the schools attending finals as well as the stadium people...

This is the right answer. I can tell you that there was no talk among Bridgeland boosters about what to do if the event needed to be moved to Monday. We would probably not have had enough volunteers to run the event. Maybe there was something cooking behind the scenes I don't know about. But I think moving to the backup day is a last resort.
