If my memory serves me correctly that was Pfugerville, not the RRISD Athletic Complex. And it makes sense that a new multi-million dollar complex would have nice hashes. -
11th in GE Total 8th in Visual Total 9th in Music Total 8th Overall ...and just because you like the music does not change the judge's score. I like the music too but we are viewers, not judges. Judges are trained to score the corps according to standards set by the Drum Corps International, Inc.

From what I have been hearing, Area D is going to stay at the RRISD Athletic Complex in Round Rock. -
Just becuase they had a fluke year (and it was) does not mean that the years before that were bad. Let us look at the results before 2005: 2004- 3rd 2003- 5th 2002- 4th 2001- 4th 2000- 4th 1999- 1st 1998- 2nd 1997- 3rd 1996- 5th That is 9 straight years in the top 5. Only the Blue Devils and the Cadets have matched that during this time frame.

I think the reason most people dislike props is that they are not use to seeing them placed on the field. Amd some bands/corps do not use them correctly or use do use then to their full potential. Props have been around for a long time. Would SCV '89 be the same without the mask? I think people should judge the props of a certain band/corps when they see it (in person) instead of instantly hating the show before they even had a chance to see it. But yes....I can't wait until DCI San Antonio!!! GO BLUEEEEEEE (Devils and Coats)!!!!!!!!

What? Of? It?? (hee-hee lol) -
I am in the same quandry you are. I have discussed some possibilities with my lesson teacher. Here is what I plan to do: To practice over the summer, I plan to borrow (or rent if necessary) a Euphonium to practice for the band placement audition for UH (or UT---haven't decided yet). During the summer, I also plan on working. When the semester starts next fall, I plan on taking a portion of my summer earnings and making a down payment (since I also have to pay tuition) on a Willson (or maybe a nice Yamaha). Then, depending on my financial situation, I will either make payments every month from my job or take out a student loan that can be paid after I graduate college. That is what I am doing. I hope it helped.

Corps don't "pick" what people show up to their camps!!! People who think they have what it takes goes to the camps and showcase their stuff. They either are asked to attend the next camp or improve some items for the next year. And I know some woodwind players who went to Top 12 Div. 1 corps on mallets or DM. It just takes hard work. In high school, some people tend to slack just because they dont give a darn. People choose to have good attitudes, technique, work ethic, etc...... I have to agree with Moose on this one.....Birds themselves produce music that can be pretty (unless they are crows--yuckee!!!). Hence they influence composer and other influental people. -
3/4 Did you see the Tennessee/Winthrop game? It was a very good game!!! It was better than the BC/Pacific Game!!!

Uh...examples pl0x!!! If I want to see birds pecking the ground I'll go outside and watch it for free. w00t-w00t!!! I'm sorry you feel that way. That is my opinion. DCI is just better (he-he). Mandarins is better than Carmel. I've seen both. Plus there are more Asians with the Mandarins . But there are more (percentage based and based on scores, not defined by the schools themselves) "bad" high school marching bands than there are Division 1 Drum Corps. I love inside jokes. Agreed. -

Amen. No Carmel wouldn't. They would give Kwananis Kavaliers a run for their money. LOL The environment involved in piano concertos does not allow for people to go hog wild over an awesome performance of it. I recommend that you listen to any Blue Devils performance. There is a reason that correlates to the success of them. Better yet, why dont you contact them and ask why they are so good. I am willing to go out on a limb and say things, but for the sake of time....infer. Whats that? We do get out of marching band "shells" but we are in a heated debate. Why leave? I never said that. I said POWER. That has more POWER. Here is the word again: POWER. One mo gin: POWER. How bout in green: POWER. Learn to read. Duh, one brass player can outplay a ton of woodwinds. DCI is also: 1) People-- mostly of age 14-21 in Div 1. 2) Everyone does it willingly. High notes? Nothing musical about it? Blasphemy!!! It takes years for a trumpet player to develop the PROPER chops and embrouchere (sp) to play of a high quality. Woodwinds and Strings have a set range. Brass players (with a ton of practice) can play any note they want. -

Have you ever heard Fire of Eternal Glory. I have a recording of it. PM me with your email. You can not say that a woodwind choir could surpass the power of brass in this piece. This year I had the opportunity to watch SA Super Regional Finals due to a bad stroke of luck. I wanted to poke my eyes out with my straw. Have you ever seen a DCI World Championship? That is awesome--from top to bottom. No one will surpass the Blue Devils, SCV, and the Cadets will the number of top placements. Ronald Reagan can't win 11 World Championships. Ever. What can you do so much more in? Why are the possibilities endless only in marching band? Just because there is rules "capping" what a corps can do, there is the same in BOA and definitely UIL. Ummm... Cavaliers did the march of Symphonic Metamorphosis in 1994. As does most H.S. marching bands in the country. Except they own any high school that ever did it manage to play it. I am just going to come out and say it: Division 1 DCI World Championship is better than BOA Grand Nats. Some shows might be as difficult as the Kwanisis Cavaliers and Pioneer, but not even Carmel and Ronald Reagan (and whoever else for that matter) would not scratch the surface of the Top 12 Finals in DCI. They do not have the time corps do. They do not have the work ethic of a corps. They do not have the resources corps have. No high school band has the money to travel almost 3 months around the nation. DCI is superior to H.S. Marching Band. PERIOD. -

Drum corps caught up with the times? I thought they started it. But that could just be me. You can't say that Reagon '03 had better innovative juices than Cavaliers '00 to '05. Same with Cadets '00 and '05. Even Crown '04, Bluecoats '05, Star '93, and the list goes on and on and on. Full Ensemble=balance, in-tune, finesse (a.k.a Carolina Crown, Cavaliers, and others). No woodwinds=Awesome. Listen to the last 3 minutes of Cadets 2000. I am pretty sure that mello line (and others) would smoke a lot of woodwind sections at many high schools. BTW--has any high school successfully (on a judging standpoint) put Niagra Falls on the field? What about Phantom of the Opera? Case and Point. -

I am not taking it too literally. If Crown was to compete at BOA event, they would blow away everyone. They play so in balance, so in-tune, with so much finesse (as do the other "top" corps) that not a single high school band could touch them. I see where Xenon is coming from. That is why there is exhibition groups at BOA. That is why groups like UT at Austin and Arlington are there to showcase what is to be on the next level of music education and what can occur. I mean, come on, if UT was to compete with Ronald Reagan and Carmel (if some rules were broken--as in the ones dealing with only high school bands can compete), what do you think would happen? -

I am pretty sure that not a single high school marching band would DCI WORLD FINALS because of the simple thing called a woodwind player. -
