  1. You are correct----but I did not want him to think I was saying blow.
  2. No lol---they are "Blueing" them. BLLLLLLLLLLLLLUUUUUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
  3. Ok----prove it. Put your money where your mouth is. Here is my challenge: Write a marching band show composed of the following parts: 3 Flute Parts 3 Clarinet Parts 2 Alto Sax 1 Tenor Sax 1 Bari Sax 1 Bass Clarinet 2 French Horn 3 Trumpet 2 Trombone 1 Bass Trombone 1 Baritone 1 Euphonium 1 Tuba Drumline composed of tenor, snare, and bass drums 1 Cymbal Line 1 Timpiani 2 Mariamba 1 Gong 2 Xylophone 1 Standing Bass Drum 1 Pair of crash cymbals 1 Triangle and 1 extra effect (i.e.--whistle) instrument It must be in compliance with UIL rules (this includes no synths or voice amps). And you have one month to do it (from this day). So ya...lets see the all-mighty Fortisimo do that. If you are up to the challenge .
  4. So ya....here is my fun week in May: May 13- Prom May 16- Spring Concert May 19- Band Banquet That is way too much time in a tux .
  5. I understand where you are coming from with the half-butted shows because of a drill writer, arranger, and so forth (*cough* Michael Gaines and his little incident with placing the drumline 40 yards from the band during an impact point *end cough*--but he does write good stuff). I have personally played some of Poulan's stuff--and it is good. As is Mark Higgombothom. It takes a lot to make shows---and if you are writing for many schools (which most arrangers/writers do) you try to the best you can. But until you can write music/create/arrange music like Poulan and Higgombothom, why don't you shut up. Are you an All-State musician? Do you have a degree in Music (performance, education, etc.)? You can have your opinion about him, but dont knock him until you are as good as him. I just quoted this just in case you decided to edit it.

  7. What is your beef with Poulan? As mbui stated: And you can not say that he helped develop some high schools in this state. Do you think Spring '93 would be what it has become without him?
  8. Or maybe a celebration of band people gathering to have fun!!!
  9. Or maybe they are being aggressive (like the WC Colorguard)...

  12. But as a movie (regardless of technique and so forth of the band--marching band) you have to admit it is a good movie. Yes it shows the drumline as a hip-hop rap beat section, but some of the concepts (like "One Band, One Sound") ring true. We as musicians know that music is much more than just playing. The movie portrayed a stereotype of a main-stream drumbeats (influenced by hip/hop/rap). We can speculate what Hollywood's motives were for making the movie, but most likely we will never know. If we wanted to, a future producer or director or writer could make a movie about marching band. But as long as we have our identity as a marching band culture (and I have mine), America's stereotypical idea of marching band (and drumline) can shove it.
  13. From the BOA e-newsletter: 2006 Fall Update: Michigan Regional, Tennessee Regional and Indiana Fall Preview sites confirmed; Texas show updates Sites have been recently confirmed for the Michigan Regional (Oct. 7, Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, MI) the Tennessee Regional (Sept. 30, Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, TN) and the Indiana Fall Preview Experience (Sept. 17, Carmel High School, Carmel, IN). Enrollment continues for the 2006 Fall Regional Championships and Fall Preview Experiences with performance times continuing to fill daily. Check the fall schedule for a full list of Fall Preview Experiences, Regional and Grand National Championships. Lists of bands enrolled in each event will be available online starting this week! The McAllen, TX Fall Preview Experience will now become a full Regional Championship due to popular demand. The McAllen show is one of four events in Texas this fall including the following: Arlington, TX Regional University of Texas at Arlington - Oct. 7 Houston, TX Regional Site to be Announced - Oct. 14 San Antonio, TX Super Regional Alamodome - Nov. 4 That makes Texas with three regionals and a super regional. I guess they know where the great bands are.
  14. Hahahahaha------I laughed the first time I saw the trumpet scene. But then I realized, it was pretty disgusting. A man playing a trumpet that was just shoved up someone's bum. Yuck!
  15. It is all in the eye of the beholder.
  16. It is amazing that Westfield 2002 has not been mentioned. I saw them twice that year (once on the field waiting to go on next and the other being in the stands). But anyways, at my school we play "Shout it Out" (I forget which part of the movie it is from) as a stand tune to pump up the crowd. That is what the movie is too. It is to please the general public, not the marching band community. Plus we all know that most of the drumlines in Texas are way better than that ! And band is not given a bad name in the movies at all. Have you ever seen Mr. Holland's Opus? That is one heck of a movie. You should see it.
  17. If I remember correctly, you are allowed a certain time before a contest to prepare for it. It also depends on how much time you spend per week and if you want to add that to the weekend. I just think someone has a beef with Bell!!!
  18. Wow...almost 3 months....and still no shirt.
  19. PM with email. It is a recording of UNT playing it.
  20. If it was a secret, I dont think they would have put it on the website: CPHS Band has joined the Austin's year long festival honoring the 100th Anniversary of the birth of composer Dmitri Shostakovich. The band will be performing movements of his Symphony No. 10 and Fire of Eternal Glory next year in our 2006 Field Production. Look for continued coverage of the development, preparation, and performance of the the show throughout the summer and fall. If I remember correctly it will be called Fire of Eternal Glory.
  21. I understand that what you posted is your opinion (most of the stuff on these boards are opinions). But in my opinion, the season was not like what you said and the stuff about the leaders and directors is not true. I can pm you what I originally put if you want me to.
