During my time, there was a terrible hazing incident in the District (Not involving Band). When it came out on the news, the District took action and made EVERYONE take a Hazing Quiz to make sure everyone knew the difference. I kid you not, I took the quiz six times in four different classes. I know the Math doesn't add up. Back then, we weren't allowed to do push-ups, even if everyone in the section volunteered to do it. A year later, the hazing rule let up a little and we were allowed to do push-ups and stuff like that. Just knowing that your friends are mad at you is enough to develop an eating disorder, let alone take care of your marching and musicality. -
That's partly your fault: "I love Dan." "Dan is awesome." "Dan, can I have a hug???"

It's natural to have a crush on me.

I haven't picked out the top corps yet, but I do have a top three: The Cadets, with their bells and whistles and yet, subliminal design. Phantom Regiment, performing Mahler in a Faust-like style that may prove to be the greatest Regiment show....EVER!!! The Blue Devils, returning to their roots and getting all badass with The Godfather.

I told you! =)

The grand total for donations was @107.45 or something like that. I ended up donating $40. Xenon donated another $20 and change. Disclaimer: I don't think any of these numbers are accurate.

A preliminary list is usually released at the TMEA Convention. If something comes up that day, I'll share it with you. -

Essentially, judges sit in a room and listen to the programs (The programs are played anonymously so the judges don't know who is performing) It works just like marching season does. You go through Region, then Area, then State. There's not a "Finals" for State Honor Band, just the top eight or seven with placements. There are different proceedures for each level of competition (Region, Area, State). It gets kind of complicated looking at all this stuff so I'll refer you to http://www.tmea.org/ Check under Divisions -> Band -> Honor Band -> Rules and Forms. I was able to be a monitor for the National Concert Band Festival listenings at the BOA Summer Symposium. It's so awesome watching the judges work as they listen to the music in a big concert hall. -

L.D. Bell changes their all the time. They are absolute masters at it. Even in late season, they'll take a risk and change what is necessary in order to make the show work. Then again, it's hardly a risk for those guys. They're good at it. -
Plastic reeded double reeds are a creation from Lucifer himself. I know there's an oboe one out there, probably in greatest depths of heck....Or Southern Arizona.

http://office.tmea.org/align06/index.htm That's the realignment for 2006 - 2007. I must say, the new Area D is looking VERY delicious! The area is the way it was back in 2000, which makes a lot more sense than the previous Area E alignement (San Antonio and Houston schools.) With the previous area alignment, Area E took SIX bands to State. When I was doing my thing back in 2000, Area D took FIVE bands to State. It will be interesting to see how many they will take to State this coming season. Area D, Top Four, No Order for 2006: Cedar Park (2004 State Finals Placement - 2nd) Winston Churchill (2004 State Finals Placement - 5th) Ronald Reagan (2004 State Finals Placement - 8th) James Bowie (2004 State Finals Placement - 9th) Yeah....It's a good top four. All four made State Finals in 2004. Cedar Park knows how to get it done in the UIL system. Churchill was actually 1st after 2004 State Prelims. Reagan has made unbelievable strides in musicality. Bowie can play just as well as anyone in the State. The fifth band, you say???? I'm not sure who it will be. Ask me again in a "few" months, but the top four in Area D will most certainly be a lock. Ladies and Gentlemen, I think we have a new Podcast topic =)
