Here's a link to Lebanon Trail's show, just to get everyone on the hype train. This was their third marching season. You may have missed that they won the Tournament of Champions, beating Plano East. I'm proud of their progress and really excited for their future, mostly because my former percussion director works there now, and their head director did her student teaching at my high school while I was a student. -

Idk if this has been mentioned, and can't really confirm it, but I would be shocked if Hebron's 19.60 in music wasn't the highest regional music score ever recorded -

i will just say that in a field so deep, so rich in ability, technique, and flat out raw talent, it's incredibly difficult to discern who's better than who or to say that because one judge out of five, and I'll remind everyone that each of them have had long, successful careers in music education and adjudication (one of them was even my high school band director and I trust his opinion implicitly), doesn't agree with the others that they are wrong, or that anyone was wronged. Yes, in an ordinal scoring system, one lower ranking can have a significant impact on your final placement, particularly in preliminary competition where those ordinals can be well into the double digits, but that's just the rules of the game, and looking at the 12 programs that made finals, it's difficult to disagree with the results. I know it stings to be so close to finals and miss, I've definitely been in that spot, but just barely missing finals at this, probably the most challenging marching contest in the nation due to its emphasis on execution and perfection, says more about how amazingly talented the Round Rock band program is than it does about UIL's imperfect scoring system. Also just a side note in J5's defense, it isn't at all surprising to me to see John Horn score in the top 10 visually- that show has compelling, challenging drill that they executed near-flawlessly. -

2004, when Bell won, is the last time a non Lewisville ISD band won it all. 1998, when Westfield won, is the last time a non DFW program won -

John Horn in 22nd!! That show is really something else -
i think it still is the premier drumline contest. it's definitely fallen off a bit in attendance, some of which may have to do with the Lewisville drumline contest now being the same weekend and it is interesting to see groups abandon marching (most notably Hebron) but I still think this is probably the most prestigious contest in the state

also, CTJ cracks the top 5 at San Antonio for the 8th consecutive year (2011-2018). This ties them for the all-time longest streak of top 5 finishes at this contest, the other being Marcus (2005-2012). -

FloMo and CTJ are not the new Marcus/Bell because in those days it was literally impossible for anyone BUT them to win, They were in the stratosphere and the rest of us were on the ground. That was dominance. Nothing against FM and CTJ- they are truly elite, but it isn't difficult to imagine Reagan, or Hebron, or The Woodlands or Leander, etc. winning. -

Hope we keep the lady announcer through finals- it's about time. I don't think I've ever been to or watched a competition not announced by a man. How refreshing -

i mean its 8 from panel 1, 6 from panel 2, that doesn't seem that out-balanced to me. the only major casualties from panel 2 are Bowie and Seven Lakes. -

prosper's sound is straight up elite at this point- I have a hard time imagining a band that sounds that good and plays that well missing UIL state finals but it's a strong year and their visual isn't at that same level, but I think they've got an excellent shot at it. Finals tonight would be a huge accomplishment but I'm not sure they'll get there. Finals at Nationals, however, seems much more doable. I think they are very clearly at the tippy top of the finals bubble bands in terms of music. what a fantastic season they're having
