  1. They're legit for sure, they did just as well at the Little Elm contest and were very competitive with some really strong groups. It's clear it's no fluke.
  2. Yeah, seems like this year Area B is only Region 24(frisco schools plus little elm), region 25(sherman,denison, lovejoy, mckinney north, wylie east, and princeton) and region 2(denton & ryan, lake dallas, the colony, and northwest). There's only 23 schools, so only a max of four spots anyways, and if problems happens it could drop to 3.
  3. Do you have a score recap for prelims and finals?
  4. 11 finalists due to a tie. Finals ended up as 11. Frisco 10. Princeton 9. Mineola 8. Sherman 7. Lakeview Centennial 6. Liberty 5. Fossil Ridge 4. Rowlett 3. Sachse 2. Lone Star 1. Wylie East East swept both music and marching, and drum major as well. Lone Star won Percussion, Liberty won Auxillary.
  5. Duncanville when I competed was always a marvel to me because despite the challenging situation many students were in they played so well and their marching was always very clean, and it made you believe that anyone could be great at music. I love my alma mater(Wakeland), but as things progressed I truly realized the advantages we had that did make a huge difference in determining our success.
  6. Agreed, at the end of the day it is a subjective competition, and what one judge sees and prefers could differ from another judge. Obviously, very unfortunate for Round Rock, but hopefully the kids could appreciate the feeling they had for their performance instead of focusing on a bad result. I will admit back in high school it was harder to see the bigger picture, but now as an adult you really appreciate just performing with your friends and giving it all that you had to give fans a great show.
  7. Directors have them, and if they shared it with their kids and band parents it usually spreads pretty easily. Nothing you can really do about that.
  8. Cedar Park and Dripping Springs really killed it in Finals. The rest of the field wasn't even close in finals. Personally, I'm a little disappointed Wakeland lost out on a medal due to the judges choice. Again these things happen so it is what it is. Great performance by all. I do wonder if Prosper was hurt by going so early, and right after Cedar Park. They had two judges ranked them last.
  9. If a band earns 1st place ranking from two of the music judges, and one 1st place ranking from a marching judge that band automatically wins regardless of their overall composite score, so technically another band could have a lower composite score, but if they achieve the 2 and 1 rule they automatically win.
  10. The level of musicianship, artistry, and execution tonight so far has been phenomenal. These kids continue to amaze me with what they are capable of doing on a marching field.
  11. Purchased the livestream, and ready to see the best 5A bands throw down tonight. Good luck to all!!
  12. Obviously prelims results needs to be disregarded, but that being said seeing Cedar Park and Prosper at 2 and 3 rankings, but performing 1st and 2nd is interesting. Would their performances be so strong it sets the standard for the rest of the night?
  13. Not sure how they know but the El Paso news reporting BREAKING: #Hanks HS finishes 15th in UIL State Marching competition, #BelAir 19th, #Horizon 31st, #DelValle 34th. None will advance to next round, but we're #ElPasoProud of you anyway!
  14. State advancement Southwest Aledo Birdville Wakeland Centennial
  15. Finalists in performance order Aledo Bidville Newman smith Southwest Centennial Liberty Wakeland Lone star Lake Ridge Frisco
  16. I remember when I was a frustrated high school student who missed out on finals. This is a subjective event, and you have to accept the fact that sometimes you might feel you get "robbed" but the people judging are there for a reason. Plus, it can always be a blessing in disguise for the competition two years from now.
  17. Tough break for Wakeland and Vandergrift, both probably believed they had a run in them to move up. Still a state final appearance is nothing to be ashamed of. And congrats to Centennial for the medal, Dripping Springs for another amazing performance and of course Cedar Park who just put up a show of a lifetime.
  18. WOAH!!! Did anyone else see that coming?? I am a Wakeland alum and didn't think they would be up there, but like we discussed finals will be wide open and anyone can come in and take it.
  19. I believe that, what an incredible performance by Cedar Park building on an incredible performance on Saturday at BOA. They are by far the band to beat in my non-professional opinion. Still I wouldn't count Centennial, Dripping Springs and Friendswood out right yet.
  20. Yeah you were pretty much right on point, what's interesting is that all the bands that I expected to make it did. There were really no surprises in my mind. Let's see what kind of shakeup we get in finals because I think its going to be wide open.
  21. I'm just messing with you, as someone who goes to UT it was unfortunate that Gilbert was made the scapegoat for last season's debacle. But back on topic congrats on your first state appearance, I went to Wakeland (graduated before the 09 season) and I remember how excited our band was to make our first state appearance, and hey they got 4th last time so its definitely doable to come out and challenge for a medal. Good luck tomorrow.
  22. Lake Travis, the school that brought us Garrett Gilbert, needless to say I'm not your biggest fan But yeah I saw your show and it seems great and I'm sure the kids will do great tomorrow.
  23. I would come just to see Robert Griffin perform, unfortunately my band is in the morning at 9 AM too Maybe finals then? Can I get student tickets even though I'm in college, does anyone know?
  24. We already discussed this, sometimes that happens but this is event is subjective after all, and we have judge discrepancies. Its frustrating for sure, but it happens to everyone. I'm sure the Creekview kids were happy about their performance and that matters more than the actual result.
  25. Well congrats, I always enjoyed competing against Centennial back in the day. I'm a junior now at UT, but when I was at Wakeland we definitely tried to match Centennial because they were the standard of Frisco back when I was around. Good luck at state
