Haha. Wow. If that's true, then I'll definitely be silently cheering for them while I'm at my computer watching the webcast.

Ninth chair in Region. I still made area. I took the last 4A spot. I felt bad because one of the seniors at our school really wanted to make state this year. He made area last year but didn't advance to state. This year, I tried out against him and beat him by one causing him to miss area by one chair. Oh well, it was close. I have some work to do if I'm gonna go to area and make state.

Definitely not surprised. They've gone three years in a row now. The only reason I would see them going is to try and defend their title but it's been a while since a band has successfully done that.

My first one. Linear

Gah, I'm so nervous. I have full confidence in making the region top band but I want to go on to area so bad. I'm pretty sure they only take two French Horns to area so I have to be the second best 4A player. I know one girl who'll probably get the first spot. That leaves one other spot for me, the two seniors at my school, and all the other French Horn players out there. I think I'm more nervous about making area than making state.

Yeah, to go 5A, you just have to have your director register. There are a few kids from our school going 5A this year.

Yeah, I learned that this weekend. I practiced so much on Friday. Luckily, I didn't have tryouts on Saturday, just a lesson. It was so embarrassing. He let me come back for a free lesson the next day and, after resting, the difference was probably 10th or so chair on Saturday to 2nd or 3rd on Sunday. I'll definitely be taking things easier as tryouts near this weekend.

Anyone know what other contests there are for concert bands that aren't competing in the honor band competition this year? My director has been talking about this Texas State Wind Ensemble contest thing. I've never heard of it and I can't find anything about it online, though.

What school do you go to?

Yeah, fifth chair definitely isn't bad. I have region a week from tomorrow. I'm not sure how many horns advance to area. I hope I'm one of though. I'm going for state.

Seriously. Just ignore that last post. I came back and wow. How did I miss that? Clarinet. Wow. I think this may qualify as one of the stupidest moments I've ever had. Haha.

What do you play, anyway?

Oh wow. If Bell did a cheery and happy show like Marcus, it would be so weird. I've gotten to the point where I associate the L.D. Bell band with creepy haunting but flipping awesome at the same time. Whatever path they decide to take, though, I'm sure they'll do amazing again.

Man, reading some of the traditions that the director took away kind of ticks me off. I mean the freshman initiation? There's nothing wrong with that. At all. I'm so glad my band directors amazing. He's dead serious and strict when it comes to rehearsals but he's always up for a laugh and fun too. As long as we know when to be serious and when it's time for fun.

Bleh. Fourth chair at district. I'm going to work myself to death before Monday's phase one region. I'm overall satisfied with the results except for the girl who got second chair. There's no way. I had her at fifth or sixth chair.

I'm not doing too well now. I didn't practice on Saturday or Sunday and now my tone is completely screwed up. All I practiced today was warm-ups to try and get my lips used to playing again. Hopefully it'll be better by tomorrow for district.

If I understood what I read somewhere one time, the instrument is able to change tone depending on how your playing. You can also crescendo and decrescendo while holding a note. Something that's a lot harder to do on something like a keyboard. It basically has the same perks as a woodwind instrument but plays many different voices.

We have the district auditions which are completely pathetic. The cuts are like the first line or so for each instrument. Then we have phase 1 for region which includes all instruments except for some of the really small ones. The top chairs from phase 1 and the small instruments that didn't attend go on to phase 2 about a week later and tryout for the region band placement.

District tryouts are on Tuesday for Fort Worth and then next Monday is the Phase 1 auditions for Region 7. I can't wait.

We always have a video that this guy produces for us. He takes pictures and video clips of us at games and stuff and puts them together in a motivational video. There's usually a new video for each competition. We also have the usual speeches and stuff.

Yeah, that makes sense. But the way he was defending his band made it seem as though voforlive just dissed every other band in the state or something. The hype wasn't even that bad. Oh well, I guess it all depends on how you take the way it was said.

I'm about to die. I ate way too much. I don't care though. It was amazing. Hope everyone's having a good Thanksgiving.

Just because I said Area B is hard doesn't mean I'm trying to take away from the fact that Area D has some of the greatest bands in the state also. I was just pointing out Area B since we were on the subject of Area B earlier in the topic. I wasn't trying to raise Area B above all others.
