So im gonna go ahead and pencil in Carmel, Avon, Mason, Dobbyns-Bennett, Hebron, The Woodlands, CTJ, Round Rock, Blue Springs, and Wando all as finalists. I’I’m quite curious about Texas schools like Vandegrift, Reagan, Cedar Ridge, etc., basically everyone south of Waco. Also hoping that we’ll see maybe Union from Oklahoma or a big california school. And in the category of extremely unlikely but would be amazing are Tarpon and Broken Arrow.

Ahh yes, the one Texas band that has been underestimated the past four years, that is more consistent than some of the bands on here, and has placed ahead of some bands in this list, is left off

Oh ok. Why was their grand nats participation contingent on that?

I mean it costs a lot to go to grand nats and it's logistically the hardest thing a band program can do besides maybe Rose Parade or Macy's Parade, you have to show you can be successful in your own state before you take on a challenge like grand nats. Not just the competitive challenge, but having the maturity in your program to face the challenge of the biggest out of state band competition.

As of right now I believe we have:

    1. The Woodlands
    2. Round Rock
    3. Claudia Taylor Johnson
    4. Hebron
    5. Pearland

I think CTJ is going to be every other year now along with the Woodlands and Round Rock, and Hebron has confirmed internally for a while that they will be back in 2023. Pearland has confirmed a trip, and I think there are a few other bands that are rumored, some of whom would be first-timers.

The only reason to be aware of why CTJ wouldn't be going is that they are set for a director change this coming year. Pearland has been "confirmed" by multiple outside sources, but nothing has been said directly to parents or students besides "we'll think about it if we make finals". 3/4 Pearland directors did travel to GN this past week though, however, I'd still be wary of them not going as well. The only ones I believe are 100% set on going are Woodlands, Hebron, and Round Rock, but I definitely believe CTJ and Pearland have an 80% chance of going as well.

I know finals is still going on, but speaking with the kids, some band parents across a few bands that did not make it into finals. Some of them are starting to wonder what is the point of SABOA and State if its the same bands year and year out. Bias, money, and juding inconsistancy is starting to build up.

At other Super Regionals bands from many different states appear. It's not anyone's fault other bands from across states are too scared to go to the San Antonio Super Regional. UIL is for Texas, but San Antonio is for anyone that wants to test themselves.

We beat them in Conroe Prelims when they had a full show and we only had half of ours. and barely lost at Katy still without a full show. I think We can do great now with everything finished. Well see what happens next week.

Cy fair did not have a full show at Katy, but yes y'all will do great now with everything finished. Great enough to out Pearland over many others imo. I have y'all in my predictions!

I think so as well. TC was ahead of keller in prelims and finals so I think it would be safe to say that TC will stay above keller in terms of uil, that is unless keller gets stupid clean in the span of just this week. Their show might not have nearly the amount of musical content that keller’s has but they’re playing the snot out of it and they sound gooooooood.

Just like Vista Ridge and Vandegrift since 2018...

I could definitely see pearland becoming another texas powerhouse in the coming years. Their show design has already drastically improved with wes cartwright and with Sfa’s old director now helming the program their visual proficiency has improved as well. I’m looking forward to their future!

Highly agree with this sentiment. From the recent videos I've seen, their ensemble sound quality is massively improved from what it was this past month, almost rivaling last year. Small balance inconsistencies but nothing that can't be fixed with 1 more week. I'd say their biggest issue lies in their individual music and visual. Expecting a nice showing at SA and State for them.

    1. Coppell (They have the upper hand with the harder show imo. Kept tabs on them for a while. It is very possible that Wax could beat them- purely on cleanliness)

    2. Waxahachie (france show and really clean- would've probably beat keller at duncanville)

    3. Keller (they're not the keller from years prior- i highly doubt they'll be visually clean but they have a high chance is having a great music run. imo their music was really mid during duncanville. no clue how they tied with wakeland there(haven't seen their run) but they'll be a state lock)

    4. Timber Creek (like ive said before, the show is not very hard. it's a good show. the show is easy to clean. they've been consistently clean since the start. they will not miss.)

    5. LD Stinkin Bell (this is a very wild card for me. bell will do FANTASTIC in marching. music on the other hand? very huge wild card for me. ive noticed their music has definitely gotten cleaner since stl and im not sure if m they're really driven towards area. but we will know saturday night or alternatively monday)

6/7: Duncanville (haven't seen this show. but this is all i keep hearing about. funny enough this show best describes every experience ive had with dart)

6/7: Southlake Carroll (im very nervous about how slc will do. they haven't had much luck so far despite having such a cool show and designed for nats. they may have cleaned heavily to get this show up and running to make state and nats finals or they could have done very little. slc is very up in the air and i would not be surprised if they miss or make it)

    8. Lake Ridge (despite how clean they are, i think the uil judges may hold them back, but they could place much higher than i expect them to.)

    9. Keller Central (i think they could be higher but not less than 9th. they have a good show. not sure on how much they've improved but i don't think they would be superbly clean by area)

    10. Highland Park (idk its a band in dallas county so i wouldn't know)

    11. Haltom (they're making finals. the show can get cleaned easily.)

    12. Martin (cope. my sources are telling me they're gonna have a great shot in making finals. hopefully dfw ego boost lol)

Wax did go to DMI and placed 3rd under Keller and Wakeland. From the videos I've seen Keller visual is MUCH improved!

A Lot has changed in this Area:

    1. Pearland (Wins Visual)

    2. SFA (Wins Music)

    3. Dawson

    4. Clear Brook

    5.Brazoswood

    ————————————————

    6. Dickinson

    7. Clear Falls

    8. Clements

    9. Shadow Creek

    10. Clear Lake

    (11. Dulles)

Pearland musically is behind where they normally are, but after watching SFA and Dawson performances I would still confidently put Pearland ahead musically.

  10. Gonna talk about all the bubble bands because I also want to hear yall's thoughts. I can see 11 locks for finals here which means I believe these bands to be somewhere in the 12-14 range for finals.

Coppell- Almost a lock, but I can see how the judges would not reward the show design. The kids are basically outdoing what they were given and sound absolutely wonderful. I hope next year they get a harder show. Their music capability is very strong, and visually they are in finals as well. I do think Coppell will find it's way back into finals this year.

Hendrickson- In my opinion, Hendrickson has a very good shot at making finals this year. The show OOZES vis GE and music GE. The kids do a wonderful job conveying the emotion of the music they've been given. From the recordings on YT the early parts of the show sound astonishingly in tune. The later parts could be cleaned in both the clarity and ensemble sound parts. I do think that the show loses a little bit of momentum later on, but the show is very good either way. The only struggle I see is in the visual department, sets that weren't clean back at BOA Austin still aren't. Musically they're in finals for me but I don't know about visually. I could see them placing even anywhere from 10-16 here.

Bowie- I haven't seen much from Bowie other than a YT video from Austin, but even back then the band sounded different than last year. In a very good way! Their music even back in Austin rivals some sounds that are in the top 25 range right now. We'd have to wait until Orlando this weekend to see where they're at, but I could see them being in finals just from that early video. The only thing working against them is the abysmal prelim time they have!

Westlake- This is a show I could see being in finals or just out of it, akin to last year. Ensemble sound wise they sound wonderful, and the clarinet soloist is amazing. There are some balance issues I noticed from recordings at BOA Propser prelims and finals, but I'm confident they can clean that up. The show runs into the same problem as Hendrickson where I believe the early parts are very clean musically in comparison to the later parts. The concept of the show is just wonderful though! Visually I think they are lacking as well, as some sets haven't been cleaned since Austin. I could see a 13-16 place here!

Keller- Overall, Keller confuses me the most. Listening to recent recordings from after DFW, they probably are top 10 in music right now. However the show design confuses me and doesn't give an accurate portrayal of what I think Keller could do. The visual score is a tiny bit lacking in comparison to other bands of their caliber, though the music they create is ahead of most of the other bands both in achievement and complexity. Overall they will probably make finals, but I think there's a greater chance of them missing this year than in the past.

Pearland- Coming off of the massive staff overhaul hasn't seemed to rattle them one bit!  Having watched to recent videos I do think Pearland is lacking a little bit musically this year in comparison to last year, but visually there has been a massive jump ahead in quality. I'd almost go to say that Pearland visually this year is far ahead of the other bubble bands and rivals some of the top schools, which can be expected when your new director led SFA to 3rd in visual at St Louis Finals. Visually they are a lock for finals in my opinion, but musically they could be sitting around the 17-20 range, although they could place higher as the music they are playing has a lot more depth than last year's book. If they get back to the top 10 ensemble sound they had last year, I could see them placing very well. The main problem this year seems to be the show design, as music GE seems to be a bit lacking. If they don't make finals here, I could see State going well for them.

Cy-Fair- What a year for Cy-Fair! After not, making state the past 2 years, this bounce back is almost unprecedented. The show design is very strong this year, its just a matter of if the kids can achieve at a high level what has been given to them, which I believe they can. There were noticeable tuning issues from them at Katy and Conroe, but the band early on sounded similar to how they did late season last year. I hope they can clean the show musically and visually and make finals! We'll see how their doing once area I rolls around. Can't wait to see how the show turns out!

yes super excited for them I can definetly envision them in maybe 1st this year, Bridgeland has been the only area I band to beaten them this season and that was in Conroe Prelims. I hope we get 5 bands to state this year. This Area Contest will be like no other. Next contest for Area I fans is Lone Star preview where we can see Bridgeland and Woods go at it.

It's still difficult to tell. The majority of the points they have gotten at the BOA regionals have been visual GE as their design is super on point this year. Haven't seen any recent videos but I could see Bridgeland, Cy Woods, or even Jordan slip ahead in the music or visual catagories. It also doesn't help that Cy Fair's draw time isnt quite the best.

I have a much more descriptive prediction but for now here’s what I have:

    Panel 1:

    Flower Mound

    Marcus

    Claudia Taylor Johnson

    Ronald Reagan

    Round Rock

    -

    Panel 2:

    Hebron

    Vandegrift

    Cedar Ridge

    The Woodlands

    Cedar Park

    -

First Four: Vista Ridge, Coppell, Keller, Rouse,

    -

I’ve decided I don’t want to over-explain this. If you have any qualms or are puzzled by anything do ask.

Curious about your Keller and Rouse predictions. I don't want to bad mouth any bands as the kids work extremely hard, but I think the showings in the past from both bands have been greater than as of recent.
