Box5s camera work is genuinely so bad 💀 As someone who's watching live and peeking at the screen here and there it's absolutely crazy how much they just don't film and instead focus on some random spot in the field.
Right! That's why I always go high cam.

Bridgeland was fantastic! Alot of large statements with big sounds. They should have a clear shot at finals.

Just now, packwick said:oh Leander, moon river, be still my heart again!! love the fun funky ending stuff too. so much infectious energy!!
ok, i switched back to multi for this one. judging panel did in fact change!! Bruce Jones on individual vis i believe, another gray haired glasses guy, i may be mixing them all up, and music.... Kyle Weirich?? not sure about the music guys lol.
ok i need to take a pot roast out of my instantpot now. it's been sitting in there.
Correct vandy was judged by panel 1 I got confirmation from a reliable source!

I love Leander's show it is one of my favorites this year! Great job I hope to see them sneak into finals.

Finals is selected by the top 5 in each panel plus the next 4. If Vandegrift is moved in to panel 2 then it will be unbalanced because that is where most of the finalists contenders are currently. for a band like Bridgeland it makes it harder to land a bottom half slot.

Vandy is on at 8 not sure if there is a travel conflict

Cedar Ridge had an amazing run clean and precise you can tell they are hungry to prove that they are not a group to be counted out! Also percussion and guard are the clear stand out here they are fantastic. Right now panel 1 is looking to be a shut out.

I was able to see Glenn! Great sounds coming from this band! They are still growing their tradition which all new groups have to overcome. Philip Gieger of westfield once told me that any band that wants to have a lasting legacy must have a tradition that you can see in their marching and hear in their playing. He used ronald reagan as an example which was his biggest competitor in 2000's. Glenn will no doubt follow in the footsteps of other Leander bands. There must be something in the water.

Don't forget the panel judging! It will play a huge part on the bottom half.

4. Cedar Park
5. Westwood
6. Cedar Ridge

9. Timber CreekPanel 2:
1. Marcus
2. Vista Ridge
3. Ronald Reagan

McNeil has really impressed me this year! Perfect show with great musical selection.

I think churchill was great they have potential but I think they performed behind dripping springs. So now we will have to see how McNeil and Westwood perform. Churchill is small for 6A which I think hurts them at this contest.
-
From the first block Cedar Ridge was outstanding! I am not sure what they did but it felt like a whole new show. As of right now no school has matched them in music. Round Rock is clean but they are missing something not sure. We will see where the judges place them.

Very interesting! looks like Cedar Ridge will be setting the bar which could be a good or bad thing for them. I remember back in 2014 when Hendrickson performed first and they got 1st in prelims! then they got knocked to eighth place in the finals. or that time Round Rock went first in 2012 and missed finals. CR will have to be on their game for prelims but I still think they will have an easier path to finals than other competitors.

You really just never know what's gonna happen when it comes to Area D That's what makes it such a fun contest to watch! No matter what happens I expect everyone to bring their A-game which is why it makes it hard to predict every possible outcome. For example, CTJ may not be as strong as they have been in the past but they're not going to come to Area and just give up. The same goes for CR their show may not be as compelling as last year but they always give a stunning final's performance and they made state since 2014 so it's hard to bet against them. Round Rock has a lot of drive and you can tell from their region performance they really want to make this year count. Dripping Springs made it last year which shows that they have the ability to compete and give a clean show. More than likely DS will be a state qualifier.

I was stunned by McNeil they have one of my favorite shows this year! This Area will be competitive and that's exciting.
Ronald Reagan is the favorite here they are performing at a level only rivaled by a few bands in the state.
Cedar Ridge they are still a little messy but they have improved so much from BOA austin. I would be shocked if they are not second at this contest.
Round Rock they are clean and in my opinion the show that is the most UIL designed show of the bunch. They are in the running for a medal especially since CTJ is not performing strongly this year.
In my opinion if CTJ does take one of the 5 spots that leaves room for westwood and McNeil to fight for the final slot. However, anything can happen.

yay!!! vandy comeback!! well vandy annihilation really. over 2 points is a giant gap. prob the most experienced group of BOA judges we've seen so far too, despite not being an official BOA contest. bodes well for vandy late season at San Antonio methinks.
I predicted this outcome as well. Usually the larger groups take time to refine themselves both visually and musically. That is not to take away from Rouses success and I am sure they will be an easy lock for finals at BOA SA. They are in panel 1 which has all the bands they have faced so far including vandy.

This by far one of my favorite leander show designs in years. Everything fits and the music compliments the drill in so many clever ways.

Cedar Ridge was fantastic! Color guard is stunning and their music has improved since BOA Austin. They are in good shape for next week UIL area and should be battling Reagan for 1st. I will be interested in seeing if CTJ will come back from their BOA Katy placement.
-
With so many names missing from this contest it looks like a few groups will get an opportunity to make finals for the first time this year! After watching BOA Katy I can see that it is highly competitive this year. However, it looks like momentum is still on the side of frequent finalists.
Top 7:
The Woodlands
Ronald Reagan
Vandegrift
Marcus
Rouse
Vista Ridge
Cedar Park
Bottom Half:
Cedar Ridge
Claudia Taylor Johnson
Lake Travis
Leander
Bridgeland
Round Rock
Westwood
This is somewhat how I see things playing out. We could see CTJ getting better by the end of the season but that really applies to all groups. I am interested to see if Rouse keeps the momentum this year we have seen them place high before then other groups leapfrog over them which I hope isn't the case. I think Bowie has an outside chance but on this list, I have them 1st out. -

They definitely threw down, I was thinking 5th-6th at best.
I agree! For example in prelims I had CR weaker than other 4A schools yet they were only beaten by Vista and vandy in their class. So based on their performance in finals which was way better than prelims they should be in contention for 3rd place I would be more worried about Rouse than LT. However, you never know what the judges will favor.

At this point finals is hard to predict for either panel 1 or 2. I would say that most of the previous finalists performed very strong these past 2 days so I am not to sure where everyone will land.
