Lumberton has 214 signed up for next year as of last Friday. It will be the biggest group Lumberton has ever had. I dont know the official numbers for each section except for 2 sections. There are 14 members in the guard and an overwhelming 17 sousaphones. That has to be some kind of record for a 4A band to have 17 tubas. It will be a great year for Lumberton because of new competitions and new uniforms! Better watch out, Lumberton is not over yet with the rise over the past few years.

Our band is going to be huge next year as well!

As of right now we are sitting at over 320 members total for next season, and a 60 member guard(!). That is going to be a lot of fun to put on the field.

We are now less than a month away from the first competitions of the 2019 Fall Season, and bands are continuing to announce their competitive productions.

If you find out about a group's 2019 production, and care to share, please post it to this thread.

I will update this post with the shows as they come in.

The show is about how everyone is beautiful whether they are young or older. The show is about the band members beauty.                                                                                                                           I would also like to point out that I will be assisting drill for this show with my head director. I have been wanting to do this for years and cant wait to showcase my skill in drill design to everyone out there!

Some of our band just got music for the preview of the show... two of the four concert bands will play a portion in the spring concert, and then they’ll give out and start teaching parts to next years 9th graders and give us parents a preview on May 25th- TWHS’s May Day where they will reveal as much as they will reveal before next fall.

Haha thats funny. I got a funny story.

This happened during my junior year, my band was at area prelims, at the end of our show we had a HUGE tarp that went over us so then it looked like we disappeared, but since it was windy that day, the tarp was flying wrong so me and several others who were at the end, got separated from the rest of the band bc the tarp completely went out of control. I ended up being the only one who didnt end up under the tarp. Like I said there were others but they picked up the tarp and went uder it, I didnt have enough time to so i didnt, and I ended up a few feet from my band so I was by myself and it was awkward but I didnt move. I stood there and sang (yes we sang a song at the end of our show) and after that my director came up to me and congratulated me for not moving. Apparently the judges loved it that I didnt move. We got 3rd out of 36 that day bc of me. If i had moved, we would've gotten around 5th or 6th. Nowadays when someone messes up, we say "oops you just pulled a Jon-Michael" (my name). I still laugh at that incident.

Area Prelims in 2017, I got thrown off by a woodwind feature being extremely out of tune (because it was 35 degrees out and we warmed up inside). Ended up stepping off in the wrong direction at the beginning of our closer and came close to falling over trying to sprint backwards to correct it. Still cracks me up because it’s very clear in the performance video

I love a good humiliating story.

When I was a young mom, I was driving to work one day and as I was approaching a traffic light, I decided to run it (it had just turned yellow).  Then I noticed a cop in the lane beside me.  So I slammed on my brakes, and my car slid completely sideways into the intersection.  (Remember, I was YOUNG).  I had to sit at that dang light, sideways, until it turned green again.  The cop and everyone around me had a great laugh at my expense I'm sure!

Okay, I know that wasn't band related, but I thought you guys might enjoy it.

I just got home from almost a week straight of marching band.  I hope everyone enjoyed the live blog, feel so fortunate to get to contribute to that!  There were so many fun moments over the past week, but these five stick out above for me.
Rouse blew me away in BOA San Antonio prelims.  They’ve always been really solid but when they hit that first Rocky Point Holiday impact…….wow.  They sounded like a finalist and fit right in when they performed in exhibition after finals.  Incredible improvement this year, they’re gonna be formidable in 5A next year at the state marching contest.   Vista Ridge winning their first state championship, shooting up from 24th in 2016 to 1st in 2018.  Their performance was one of the most emotionally captivating high school shows I’ve ever had the pleasure of sitting through live.  This was so special to watch unfold in 2018.  And to make that even more special, Claudia Taylor Johnson and Leander absolutely bum rushed Vista Ridge when they were told to break ranks at retreat.  There was a band wearing brown uniforms, and then they were GONE.  Kudos to CTJ and Leander on the incredible and wholesome display of great sportsmanship.   Shiner high school finished their show in 2A.  And then they kept playing as they exited the field.  And exited the tunnel.  And kept going.  Some say they’re still playing to this day.  It was so fun and unexpected, it came after an electric finals run as well.   The colorguards in 4A HOLY CRAP.  Kennedale came on and had flags flying in perfect unison the whole show, and we're not talking little tosses either.  Paris also had some insane flag work as well.  But MELISSA.  That opening flag feature was one of the best things I saw from from a colorguard all week.  And their rifles.  Just wow.  I don't know what is in the water but those north Texas small school guards holy wow.   I went to Canyon High School, graduated in 2012.  After being out of 4A/old 3A so long I wasn’t sure how Canyon would do moving back down, 2007 was their last year before moving up to 5A/old 4A.  Was so so so happy when they were announced as a finalist for the first time in over a decade.  Glad to see that they’re still holding their own.  Proud alumni.   All in all it was an incredible week of (IMO) the best high school marching this country has to offer.  The sheer depth of amazing bands in this state is no less shocking this year than it was last year when I went to my first BOA San Antonio.  Thanks again to the Dans for giving me the opportunity to join them on the live blog, hope I was able to contribute as much as these opportunities have contributed to my professional growth as a hopeful future music educator.  Can’t wait to hopefully be back next year!

About the contest as a whole, we had a rough finals run but stayed 6th, but we were 1 point away from 5th in prelims with some weird scores (9, 3, 11, 4, and 3)  Our music scores actually went up in finals and our marching scores went down a lot, which is weird because we had a bad music run in finals, not marching. But oh well, congrats to everyone who advanced!

I have watched all 3 of the "Big 3" from Region 10 (Little Cypress, Lumberton and Bridge City) and I have to say I really like both Little Cypress and Lumberton's show this year.

I wasant really impressed with Bridge City's show, but I watched it last week and they couldn't practice much because the rain recently.

I find it funny, I think both Lumberton and Little Cypress have the sound of silence in their show's.

I didnt really like Lumberton's opener but I loved the rest of the show. The ending is amazing!

Little Cypress's show is kinda a weird show design, but if they can execute then they should be good.

Area C will be quite interesting, but sadly I wont be able to make it this year.

Side note, Bridge City is still a REALLY strong band as all of the "Big 3" from region 10 are, I just find the show lacking the wow factor compared to Lumberton and Lcm's. Bridge city has executed really well in the past, so they are NOT down for the count.

I think this year will be a great year for my band. We are trying many new things for us including harder drill, music, and finally having props on the field. We have several solos/duets but all i know so far is a sax solo and a flute duet. Overall i feel like we will have a great shot on going back to state this year.

As a member of the Lumberton band, i have to say that if we do make it to state, i will be happy just to be there and if we dont make state finals then well thats fine. Im not saying that we SHOULD make finals. I would love to but if not then thats fine. But i will say that from what my friends have told me(some of them are in bands that we are now going to be competing against) that apparently we are somewhat a threat to some bands already. Idk if thats true or not but i will say next year is going to be intense for sure.
