  1. Yeah if I remember correctly all of the neisd schools have their own band lot at the school that is seldom used by anyone else.

    Ah... such a huge bonus!  Our kids have a student parking lot that's marked off with yard lines and hash marks... that they have to hunt down students that are parked in it when they don't get their cars out in time after school.  And during school hours there's no where they can do any full field type practice.  They have some hash marks in the band hall they can practice small group choreography, but that's it.

  2. I agree CTJ's 2018 show was prop heavy- I think it distracted from their show a lot.  I liked their 2017 better because while still crazy and all over the place- it was the students I focused on, not all the props.

    as an aside- our band got to practice at CTJ when we were in San Antonio for BOA and they were amazed at the practice area the CTJ band get's to use...

  3. In 2015 my wife and I went as spectators (she was actually working in Cincinnati at that time, so I flew there and we drove to Indy). In 2017 she was a heavily used volunteer (nurse), while I made sure she was fed and was her gopher during the trip. Was able to see some on Thursday and Friday, and large chunks of Saturday, but not as much as I wanted. We haven't decided yet on 2019, and she is considering helping on the Indy trip since there will be a new volunteer band nurse who won't know the ropes of that trip. Coordinating daily meds, dealing with the injuries during practice, and the waves of illness that sweeps through the 300+ kids is non-stop.

    I “may” have seen more of your wife those three days than you did- and I admire her work with the kids. We are trying to decide between me chaperoning again, or just going separate from the band. We’ll have a child in both guard and band next year- but the cost for me to chaperone would be as much as the two of us traveling separately from the group... decisions, decisions.

  4. not to be ticky tack... but if your already working on the directory...  :D

    Bandmomx4               Julie                        Daughter #2 plays clarinet for TWHS ('17- '21), Daughter #3 will be in flute or colorguard beginning in '19;

  5. Best of Luck Madison!

    TWHS is still in the second round. We play this Friday 4:00 at woodforest stadium. The band will just be doing their fun songs and accompanying the highland girls dance team for a halftime show.

    And I didn’t mean to repeat what was posted above- didn’t realize I hadn’t gotten to the end of posts on the thread since I’m reading on my phone.

  6. Even with the panel differences, I'm surprised to see The Woodlands outside of the top 7. I would have guessed that the performance qualities alone would have put them in, but if the judges are cold to the show, they're cold to it.

    Admittedly I’m biased- but have the same surprise. I’m curious to see the scoring when it comes out- but it is what it is.. doesn’t matter where we end up tonight- we feel like the kids have done an amazing job this year and are proud of them.

  7. I will have to say I was shocked to hear some of the comments from a Woodlands band Member who called Tomball Memorial “a broke trash band”, and while I don’t know if their director will handle it but there was no need for that kind of disrespect towards anyone’s performance. I know that does not reflect their program and I met many great band kids from that program, however hearing that being said to other band kids was extremely hurtful and I feel very upset for the TMHS, Spring, and Kingwood bands who were made fun of.

    I’m extremely disappointed that one of our kids would have said that- and I know our directors would say the same. Please accept when I say that that sentiment is NOT what our band and parents think of your school and the other schools Saturday night. I really enjoyed your show and all the other ones I was able to see and can’t wait to see the programs in our area continue to progress in the coming years.
