I agree. Panel 2 is deeper but there aren’t any bands on either panel who will make top 5 that don’t necessarily deserve it.

I think it’s interesting that panel 1 has 7 returning finalists (and the next out) from 2017 while panel 2 has 6 returning finalists. Obviously Avon isn’t here this year so there would be an imbalance.

Probably, and it’s beneficial because pretty much all of their panel 1 competitors go on Friday (except Hebron).

I think top 5 could very well be the same as 2016 if UIL really likes Marcus this year. If they don’t, Reagan can easily take a top 5 spot. I think groups like Leander and The Woodlands will excel at BOA like they did in 2016 but will sit right outside the top 5 as well. I see another top 5 finish from Keller and because they always seem to surprise at the end of the season, a medal isn’t out of the question in my opinion. I really couldn’t predict how CTJ will do.

I think Keller and Vista are locks at this point, along with Bowie probably. Not sure about Cedar Ridge and Hendrickson. With Avon gone that leaves one spot wide open, and I’m not confident Bell can take that spot.

We all know Hebron’s issue but I did hear that Cedar Park has a disappointing run, Keller tore a few times, and other bands just for whatever reason didn’t perform how they wanted to.

Interesting to see how a competition like HEB that is scored similarly to BOA can have Keller and Prosper so close while at BOA they are pretty far apart. Makes me wonder how Marcus would’ve done at this competition and if they will make SA finals.

I think the visual judges did a great job overall. The music ensemble judge was on something else, but I think it balanced out for the most part and placements and scores are pretty accurate.

It just sucks cause the weather seemed to clear up and there were a lot of people waiting to get in. I bet the kids were ready to have and all-out performance.

Finals was going to be AWESOME. I think we were going to see some MAJOR improvements. I wouldn’t take prelims results as gospel.

I know Hebron, Cedar Park, and Keller had some kindof rough prelims performances so I hope they get another chance.

How was Cedar Park? Also I feel like a lot of the bands are being affected by the heat. Finals will be great though.

I’d have to disagree. Most band programs that are very successful teach their kids not to care about results. Obviously it is impossible to completely disregard them but most students actually buy into it. They truly care about the things that are more important in the long run.
