  1. Keller moved around a lot last year too. They went from 9th to 13th last year. I think they were 14th in prelims because of some really odd GE scores. One music GE had them in 4th and the other had them in 23rd also some other GE judges had them 18th and 15th. Thier music and visual scores were very solid. In finals, the GE scores were way more consistent so that’s where their jump came from, rightfully so in my opinion. I’m not that surprised considering last years results, how close prelims were, and how well they performed in finals. They were over a full point ahead of Hendrickson.
  2. Another thing that I forgot to mention is that Ronald Reagan has a completely unique ethereal feel to their show and they do run and do visuals ALOT but in my opinion they have hit an absolute homerun in show design. Their concept of contrast is extremely simple but the music and visual nuances add so much GE to the show. Leander and Reagan have a similar feel but Leander is missig something in my opinion.

  4. I felt the exact same way but then I really thought about it. Leander performs what they have at an EXTREMELY high level but seem to be trying too hard to do something so new that they lose the focus on the basics. Their show is dominated by electronics/guard moments/running that it is hard to reward them in music and visual when there is a lack of both. When they do play or march they perform it extremely well but they severely lack it to the point where it really affects thier scores. At first glance, thier show is an absolutely phenomenal work of art (which it still is), but strays too far from the basics of marching and playing. I am in 100% favor of modern shows but there is a point where it begins to hurt placement and scores but that shouldn’t even matter as long as the kids love what they do. This is all complete speculation and I could be totally wrong.
  5. I think that if one band has a decisive victory over another’s a competition like SA of Nats, the higher band shold be ranked higher. A lot of bands just ended thier season so there isn’t anything else to go off of just jet. For example, Keller should probably be ahead of Leander and The Woodlands because Keller was a pretty decent margin ahead of The Woodlands and almost 3 points ahead of Leander. Cedar Ridge should probably be above Haltom because no one knows how Haltom would’ve improved. And Cedar Ridge beating Leander shows thier improvement. Past results and reputations can only last so long. Also, some people argue that prelim results should be taken into great consideration. But when a competition spans multiple days with different judging captions, etc. it’s really hard to go with that. Especially since San Antonio prelims were very inconsistent even more so with the GE caption. Finals was very consistent.
  6. And since then marching band has gotten so much different and more competitive that those results don’t mean much today. Keller is at the best they’ve ever been.
  7. Bell, Leander, and The Woodlands should drop quite a lot
  8. Congrats to Cedar Park who did amazing after what most people thought was an off year. It definitely wasn’t! Also, congrats to Keller who proved everyone wrong once again.
  9. -Last years medalists weren’t even in the top 5 this year FloMo 1>6 Woodlands 2>11 Leander 3>14 THIS COMPETITION WAS ABSOLUTELY INSANE... and I LOVE it!!!
  10. Keller should move up quite a lot as well. They were 9th and over a point ahead of 10th.
  11. 11-15 in prelims was extremely close, it could’ve gone any way. But Keller totally brought it up in finals to justify the huge jump in placement. 91.975 in 9th place is insane. This competition was way too close. So many tied subcaptions in finals.
  12. I’d say the placements/captions are more confusing than the actual group of finalists.
  13. I am curious how Leander, Woodlands, and Reagan did compared to the other bottom 7.
  14. The whole thing is about to be a bloodbath.
  15. Congratulations!!! I bet it was nerve wracking to be announced last but you deserve it!
  16. Yay, Cedar Ridge. What a comeback from last year!
  17. Good Luck James Madison! Have an amazing performance, we will be rooting for you!
  18. Cedar Park has the toughest performance slot thought. They are the first finalist level band and the judges cant risk over scoring them. I really hope it doesn’t hurt their finals chances.
  19. Thanks for the replies. I guess that’s a good thing that the actual performances aren’t nerve wracking. As a performer myself, the actual show is infinitely easier than having to sit through the awards presentation. The second I hear chuck Henson’s voice, my heart starts to race a million miles a second lol!
  20. Question for anyone to answer: How nerve racking it is to watch your child perform? Especially at places like SA and Nats where finals is not guaranteed.
  21. At this point, a tie for 14th place would be the best case scenario.
  22. First of all, I think they will be in finals but I wouldn’t be completely shocked it they aren’t. I love that they are doing something new this year while still keeping the “Keller” feel. Musically they are probably one of the best bands at San Antonio. For example, they were 3rd in music in SA prelims last but then somehow fell to 13th in finals. This year they topped Marcus at birdville in music which is a huge accomplishment. Also, I want to point out that in my opinion, they are one of the few bands that marches and plays as much as they do and still sound as good. Visually they are extremely ambitious but their drill isn’t clean. Probably due to the fact that their hardest drill is right at the end of the show and it is ALL done while playing at a fast tempo. You can literally see people running to different sets, which makes it even more impressive that they sound good while doing it. Thier drill should bring strong visual GE if it were clean, which it is not right now. Based on years past, they struggle a bit with GE. They look to be focused on GE this year which will probably help them out but thier show is missing the cohesiveness that I see out of the LISD bands where they have three very related parts of the show. I can kind of see that Keller is trying to have very different styles of music across thier show maybe like they are trying to find their “Sense Of Direction” but some moments feel off compared to others. It would be fun to see how many individual arrows are in this show because between the props, guard, and drill it is kind of insane lol! They are hard to predict because they never get to compete with other bands around thier skill level like Round Rock, Cedar Park, etc. They really only get to compete with the LISD bands so it’s hard to track progress.
  23. I think it may have a lot to do with the style of judging. It is very much like Uil. I expect results to be different next weekend...but congratulations Marcus!
  24. Marcus won all captions except GE, which Hebron won.
