  1. Thank you all for your help! The customer service was swift; they did an excellent job. I’m probably going to skip out on FloMarching next year and just rely on YouTube. I hope people get better at beating the copyright Goliaths! The service this year was an indulgence for me and I knew it, lol.
  2. I love the irony in this statement. Times are changing!
  3. Alright, I emailed them through their “Contact us” form. Thank you for your help! Hopefully they’re good about getting that taken care of before my next billing cycle.
  4. As the topic suggests. Gotta navigate around this deplorable malpractice of keeping “canceling subscriptions” arduously vague and hidden. Also convenient timing given some resentment floating around regarding FloMarching’s handling of...other things. ——————————————————————— (Disclaimer: I think the product in itself is quite good. Of course, when it’s compared to prior streaming services, I can see how it falls flat. But for me, it works.)
  5. Speaking of Carmel, that show grew on me throughout GN. Some absolutely breathtaking moments! (Especially in the ballad)
  6. Katy ISD, you hear this? Tompkins? Seven Lakes? JORDAN? (I’m pressuring this school even though it doesn’t exist yet). I’m itching for a breakout year from one of these groups really really soon. Come on!!!!! I’m all seriousness, Houston seems to be cooking some real potential for new Grand Nats appearances throughout these past few years. The most obvious example is Pearland; I really hope that these guys can cement themselves as a “2nd best” Houston group; or better yet, hang right there with TWHS. That is, until a Katy ISD group catches up to them.
  7. Disclaimer: Mason is wonderful. First time watching them was magical.
  8. William Mason’s show name gives me PTSD from my freshman year.
  9. 4/6 Texas bands in the top half. How about that.
  10. Yes Round Rock! I think they were cleaner than Marion right before them (who also had a really awesome show), and I honestly like their show a lot more than last year. In particular, I like their closer (which I assume they didn’t have at BOA Austin when I saw it last). I’m a sucker for the Saint-Saëns Organ Symphony.
  11. The Woodlands!! AHHH!! It was a crime overlooking this show when I was thinking about my favorite shows earlier in the season. When you sell a show like THAT, there’s no way it can’t be one of my favorites. So...much...FUN!
  12. Vandegrift’s musicality is impeccable! I’d wager that their music numbers run head to head against Avon’s visual scores. Hard for me to say who had the stronger show overall!
  13. I enjoy narration when it’s evident (at least to me) that the narration enhances musical effect as opposed to replacing it. (Controversial opinion) CTJ 2018 was one of my favorite shows from that year. The layers upon layers of effect is something that I really enjoyed; and in that case, narration served as another one of those layers. When there’s narration in that show, it’s complemented by music to sell the theme and create musical motion. I really like that form of narration, as opposed to, say, silence + narration. Also, someone mentioned Just Another Brick. I also remember really enjoying that one when I watched it at BOA Houston 2017.
  14. The cold front hit Dallas at noon! Hope this icy weather just passes before Saturday. Rather it be 40 in Indy than 30!
  15. Alright, I’m challenging myself to see all 6 Texas bands on FloMarching 3 times next weekend, in the midst of University Life. I’m ready and willing! Hoping to catch all of finals and some of semis. What I absolutely love about #TeamTexas this year is that each of the Texas bands has something unique to bring to the table. Leander has exhilarating and fun pop repertoire. TWHS has constant energetic jazz. Hebron has...Hebron music. And Hebron Mellos. Vandegrift transforms the field into an outdoor concert hall with their impeccably clean orchestral repertoire. CTJ jams to lively and vivid film-inspired music. And Round Rock rounds it out with their warm and luscious “Simple Gesture.” It doesn’t feel like BOA SA is the “end of the season” like it used to for me. However, it’s strange how close the end of the season actually is. Cannot wait for GN!
  16. Hearing these perspectives as a performer who grew accustomed to Tuesday Region contests (Region 23 - W Houston/Katy), it’s interesting trying to dissect the problem. Legacy Stadium hosts pretty much everything possible in the area nowadays: Region 23, Area I/E, BOA Houston, Katy Marching Festival; and Region is on Tuesdays. Either there’s been an insufficient amount of volunteers year after year and I just never knew about it (This would include back when Region 23 was held at Rhodes Stadium), or our community grew accustomed to Tuesday Region and made accommodations to volunteer and make it work. Maybe Katy HS being so close to Legacy Stadium is a factor that helps a lot.
  17. Nice!! I remember hearing Philip Geiger judged last year’s state contest (6A) as well.
  18. Sure. But McAllen was on 9/21, while SA was on 11/2 for Alexander. The range between those 2 dates is astronomical!
  19. This is another thing that concerns me about every-year area and BOA SA conflicts. Since many of the top bands may opt to skip area in favor of BOA SA, the prestige of the label “Area Champion” will be muddied as other bands in the area that debatably perform at a higher level will not compete at the Area contest at all.
  20. Really unfortunate that I missed their performance. Not sure what could have caused the judges to rank them the way they did; they were so impressive at McAllen. Some other shocking statistics: Their McAllen finals score was higher than their SA score. They were outscored by both Pioneer (57th) and Roma (40th). Imo JBA will be just fine if they keep doing their thing. Mix in late-season cleanliness with their unparalleled emotion, and they will be rewarded. Give ‘em some time.
  21. It is unfortunate that so many good bands only get to perform once at such a massive event. They should be able to perform again. I’m in the camp that this event should adopt a semis format.
  22. Pearland!!! YES!!! (Minor boasting ) I’m proud that I included them on my “finalist hopefuls” list. Massively overlooked. Trainscapes in 2017 landed them 12th in Houston and 17th in SA. This show landed them 6th in Houston (and I thought it was deserved), so... So proud of them! Also RR in finals is making 6 Texas bands in GN a “pipe dream” more likely to come true.
  23. I agree about Semifinals. There are too many bands in this contest that only get to perform once, especially considering the quantity of phenomenal programs there.
