Same as Banddad84, but in 2015. Lurked for 2 years, grew closer to the new "Family". Not just the Hawk family, but everyone else in the stands and in this forum. Lurking here for that long reading so many great stories, comments and how we all appreciate what these programs are to the performers and everyone involved tends to pull you in.
My 2018 graduate and I are planning to make as many competitions as we can after she graduates.
Prolly gonna be the Male version of LeanderMomma and txbands will be a neccessary form of info and communication.

I still contend that embedded slow sections make more sense muscially.

    So,
Director of bands and staff of Hendrickson have been posted. I can now divulge that Mr. Atkinson (his bio is posted under faculty at hawksband.org) was the favorite among students, boosters and Mr. G himself. REHHS is ready to go for 2018.
    Go Hawk Band!

Mr. G has been one of the best and is well respected at Hendrickson. He and Duffy made a great combo. G has always been positve when it comes to Bowie, so when he anounced that he would be moving there, personally, it wasn't a surprise. It may take some time, but G is a good thing for Bowie. I'll be rooting for them. Hope they have a great 2018.
Hendrickson should be ok. The past three or four years has been really successful and the 2018/2019 seniors, juniors and softmores along with the amazing feeder schools supplying a wave of talented musicians have got the experience, the talent and desire to keep the ball rolling.
It's up to the district to find the right leader for the program.

Yes, I just heard about that a few hours ago. Makes me sad for Hendrickson. They were on fire last fall! So now the director is at Bowie???? What happened to the previous director at Bowie? And who is taking over the Hawk Band? Too much to keep straight.

PFISD-Weiss is setting at 1175. All of which were pulled from 2 middle schools and Hendrickson.
Hendrickson went from around 3600 last year down to 2650 this year.
Cele MS fed HHS last year. Now they feed Weiss. My 8th grader had a concert earlier this year. I commented on how much their band has grown. Not enough room on the stage and the gym is too small. The band took up the entire cafeteria (common area) floor. She laughed and said, "Dad, the 6th graders aren't even in the concert today." CMS - A little over 200 in the band program. BTW, Cele is the only middle school that marches in local pfestivals.
I have to agree with the comment from earlier. The middle school directors in this area are amazing.

Ha! "One complaint... Lucas Oil has escalators." Now that's funny stuff, AvonDad. My wife and I saw an Avon couple mid-climb to the 300's section reserved seats, stop and stare up in disbelief. I asked them, "I'll bet they told you Texas was flat, didn't they?" They laughed and caught their second wind to finish the climb. We'll make a deal with you. When... (Would you agree "if" is not an option?) When Avon comes back to our little Super Regional, you bring the Lucas Oil acoustics with you and we'll get your whole crew "front of the line" access to the elevators. That stadium sounds so clean and clear.

Your show is beautiful. The precision timing and physical strength and flexibility of your Color Guard was a pleasure to watch. No wonder they keep winning WGI. And of course it's no secret your kids can really play! I also saw Avon's 2015 show, "Black Gold", at Nationals and it changed everything I knew about the limits of what is visually possible on the marching field. Absolutely amazing! I can't help thinking the instant Texas karma available for an out of state band performing that show, about wildcat oil drilling, this last weekend here in Texas, would have blown the roof off the Alamodome and the battle probably would have been for second place. I have no desire to diminish anything that was accompanied by anyone at this historic event. In fact, I don't think anyone even could do or say anything that will ever diminish this experience for those of us who were there! However Texas, with a tip of the hat to the wonderful Avon band family, we dodged a bullet! If any of you had the privilege of seeing that show, I'm sure you know what I mean.
