I agree with this ranking, I could see Dawson or Dickinson jump Austin with a good run honestly

Taking draw time into consideration, Finals Placements should look like:
    1. Pearland HS
    2. Stephen F. Austin HS
    3. Dawson HS
    4. Dickinson HS
    5. Clear Brook HS
    6. Clements HS
    7. Brazoswood HS
    8. Clear Lake HS
    9. Clear Falls HS
    10. Shadow Creek HS

Dawson has gotten a lot cleaner. They sound far better than Clear Brook, Brazoswood, and Dickinson, they will make state.
I saw Shadow Creek live and was not super impressed, very unbalanced sound but, they do march well!!

Given their trajectory the past few weeks I could definitely see them pushing Clear Brook, Dawson or even Dickinson come Saturday !!

I haven't seen videos other than Jordan so I really only have contests and history to judge comparatively. I do hope the judging here this year is more streamlined than the past few years! I think this may be bridgeland's night come Saturday, their show really plays into the UIL sheet I believe. Cy Fair is very exciting but last I checked, slightly dirtier. They will be more successful at BOA but I could see either of these two shows pushing for a State finals spot maybe... Cy Woods and 7L have very different shows but I believe they're the next tier. Not quite as "perfected" as Bridgeland and Cy Fair but they are still very high achieving shows and I think that will be rewarded Saturday. Jordan and JET will be competing for the last state spot in my opinion. The judging so far has said that JET is better musically and Jordan is better visually (going off the Katy show a couple weeks ago). Given the history of the programs and directors, I believe these will be neck in neck come Saturday and it will all depend on the judges. Very exciting! It would be very impressive for Jordan to make 6A state on only their 3rd year open and their first senior class.
I do however see the possibility of an upset from maybe Katy, Jersey Village or Tompkins!

I doubt this hurts their "chances" of making finals but it definitely could put them lower in the rankings going into finals and makes for a LONG day for their students. All in all I don't think they will have any problems making state!

I feel like the caliber of most likely finalist bands here is a lot more matched than in other areas which could make for some interesting results. Looking at BOA Conroe prelims results, Tompkins had rather high performance scores comfortably in finals, something that tends to be well rewarded at UIL shows. Now I know that BOA sheets and UIL sheets are different, hence why I'm focusing more on the performance captions. Similarly, at the Katy marching fest, JET won the music caption over bands like 7L, Friendswood and Jordan. And at the same contest, Jordan won the visual caption over those same groups. This show will be all about who puts out the most exciting, but more importantly, spotless and uniform show. There is no room for error and I know there are quite a few groups who are capable of taking one of those top (hopefully) 5 spots to state. With that being said I would say that Cy Fair and Bridgeland are the most likely groups to go to state, followed by Cy Woods, Seven Lakes and Jordan. However, upsets by JET, Tompkins, Katy, Cinco Ranch and Jersey Village are absolutely possible.
Best of luck to all those performing this weekend at games, shows and region contests!!

First half of this area (Region 23) had region today! All 9 Katy Schools + Heights, Alief Taylor, Elsik, and Westside all advanced for a total of 13 bands so far. It looks like there are 16 other 6a varsity bands competing at Region 27 on Saturday. Even if all of these bands get a 1, it looks like we’ll be seeing 5 bands to state from Area I.

I think 1 and 2 will definitely be close between bridgeland and Cy fair. 3-4 mostly likely between 7L and Cy woods. I would guess 5-8 is between Jordan, Jersey Village, Tompkins and JET.
Knowing how Area has been judged in the past could throw a complete wrench in these predictions though!

As of tonight, we have the first round of bands advancing to Area B contest!
Arlington, Cedar Hill, Lake Ridge, Legacy, Mansfield, Martin, Paschal, SGP, Boswell, Keller Central, Chisholm Trail, Fossil Ridge, Keller, North Crowley, Timber Creek, and Weatherford!
That's 16 bands, guaranteeing at least 3 bands advancing to state from this area. Over the next week and a half, we'll hear results from regions 31 and 20 to finish out this area. That leaves Berkner, DeSoto, Duncanville, Highland Park, Irving, Lake Highlands, MacArthur, Nimitz, JJ Pearce, Richardson, Skyline, Waxahachie, Carroll, Coppell, Haltom, LD Bell, and Trinity for next week's region contests. 14 of these bands need to advance in order for Area B to send 6 to state. If 4 or more of these bands do not get a 1, then we'll only see 5 advance. Seeing 6 advance would be great, but that would still leave this as likely the most cut-throat area in the state.

Bell has an interesting history of surprising people with a solid placement at their earlier contests. They seem to have become a wildcard here within the last 5 or so years. There’s also not much to see of Bell’s show online right now. Who knows! All of the groups will absolutely need to be on fire to get into finals on Saturday.

I think we are on track to see the most competitive BOA event to date here this year!
I see 10 locks where it would be VERY strange to see any one of these groups outside of finals this year:
    Cedar Park
    Cedar Ridge
    CTJ
    Flomo
    Hebron
    Marcus
    Reagan
    TWHS
    Vandegrift
    Vista Ridge
That leaves 4 final spots for grabs between Coppell, Cy-Fair, Foster, Friendswood, Bowie, Keller, LD Bell, Leander, Lake Travis, Pearland, Hendrickson, Round Rock, Rouse, Seven Lakes, Timber Creek, Waxahachie, Westlake, Westwood, and Wylie East. Good lord! I think we’ll see groups placing around 30th that would be top- half super regional finalists in STL and Indy.

Watching some of the high cams, I don’t envy the ensemble visual judges at all with that back shadow! Some great groups have gone on already, looking forward to seeing how everyone does.
