  1. It could be - but keep in mind, that they have feed back from multiple judges in the season. the district brings in judges for feed back for the district FallFest for all school s in the district, they have UIL judge feedback - many who may also serve on BOA events' and many that consult to the program also judge other events to include UIL, BOA and other local/regional events - in 2014 CTJ only competed in Houston and San Antonio - Gold. like many programs, I am sure that they have outside judging/consulting that are providing them with feedback prior to the San Antonio event. Good Luck to CTJ and all the programs that are competing this weekend
  2. CTJ is busy being CTJ - as noted, they had some issues in Austin, back screens blowing away in prelims, field stage prop in the wrong spot that required the kids to ad-lib 11 minutes of drill on the fly - and still took a bronze medal in one of the tightest regional events in the state. while many have stated that they have not seen much of them since then, they are on their normal rotation - they did not go to McAllen as planned prior to Austin, that was a cost thing with an Indy trip this year. they have been at UIL and parts of their show have been on the field during Football games (CTJ and Madison battling for district 26 -6A) CTJ has not done Houston BOA since 2015 or DFW BOA since 2012 - all of those as well as Midland and McAllen require charter buses due to distance and are usually overnight trips - Huge cost with 350+ kids and 3 trailers keep in mind, CTJ plays host to UIL Region - every year, UIL Area - 6A State Years and also hosts the BOA SA- this will be our 5th year to do so. this put a lot of workload on the families, so the program does not go compete every weekend as for the show, it continues to grow and evolve and will do so through Grand Nats. I have seen many that have CTJ at 7 or so - while I am certainly biased, I do not see their streak of top 5 finishes at BOA SA ending this year and anticipate their best finish ever during their 3rd trip to Indy in a few weeks. the show at the dome will not be what you saw in Austin - good luck to all that are competing this weekend - I will be working at the field level for the entire 2 day event - hope to get some great pics for our #teamtexas Facebook page.
  3. the fact that Avon has pulled off 2 recent wins over Carmel implies that Carmel is vulnerable - the gap is not so big to this that Avon can get comfortable. it also says that the Texas bands (and others) have a chance to make a move on these 2 Indy powerhouses in GNats just a few more weeks and we will know for sure
  4. so we can assume that the change this year to have grand nats a week later may become a permanent change - so BOA SA lands at the end of the first week in Nov and GNats at the end of the second week.
  5. come on BK - I don't taste food that by designed could taste me
  6. it is for the locals and took off at their airport location - toasted sub roll with bacon (lots of Bacon), lettuce, tomato, with cilantro mayo - toss in some queso and taco sauce - it rocks
  7. fly into Indy Wednesday AM - lots of time to practice - practice time on Thursday before a night performance - all day Friday with no commitments= more practice time. Saturday is when the party begins with semis and finals - 8 hour rule
  8. unless they request day 1 of prelims - there is no 8 hour rule in Indy
  9. as someone that lives in San Antonio - this is my favorite place on the river - the steaks are way awesome and we are there anytime we have family or friends in town - wish I had time to meet up but I know you will have a great time there
  10. no need to have drinks - just looking forward to meeting everyone - I will be working the field at BOA SA all day Friday and Saturday so I will not get to mingle. I have invited some of the directors to join us and also hope we see some our TXBands crew at some point
  11. CTJ - the dance movement in "Just cant wait to be King" - pure enjoyment
  12. nice work - appreciate the effort and cannot say I disagree with your thoughts again - appreciate the detail in your analysis
  13. so - I am trying to work out the details with the Westin Round Rock is the only program that is on Friday Night (7:15PM) the awards will likely not be until 8:45 or so and the other Texas Bands perform Thursday Night or Friday before lunch I was thinking of a watch party in the Lobby of the Westin at 7:30PM on Friday - they have bar service and appetizers and they are working on setting up a TV to link to my PC so we can watch the prelim results there. I am working on a party of 20 - give me your thoughts if you are going to join the event so I can get a head count anticipate that all Texas bands will advance to Semi's hope to see you all there
  14. CTJ has been World class for about 5 years - since winning a silver in Scholastic Open class at Dayton at that time there where only 2 schools in that class in Texas -
  15. WOW - there was some thoughts put into the block assignments Panel 2 - Thursday Night 8:00PM Avon 9:00PM Carmel 9:45PM CT Johnson Panel 1 - Friday Morning 9:15AM Vandegrift 9:45AM Hebron 10:00AM Leander 10:15AM TWHS guess we cannot say that we are not comparing the top performers against each other in these blocks I understand that there are many others that will be competing for finals - but those 7 are likely going to go into finals within the top 10 (if not the top 7) and are clustered together pretty well for the judges to compare them in prelims.
  16. pretty extensive list - appreciate the effort cant say that I disagree with any of your picks/logic - I stop after the top 20 - the top 10 is hard enough to predict but you took it way beyond that look forward to seeing them all in the dome
  17. I would agree - we had BOA Austin, BOA Houston and DFW, - but there are 4 weeks where none of the shows compete head to head - that is a lot of time to adjust and clean - even make major changes. BOA SA will be the first real chance to see all in one event - even that will not be decided until finals - with the 2 panels that are judging prelims, we could see a big change between prelims and finals. add the 2 weeks prior to Indy - and those placements in SA may mean little in LOS SA and Indy will be a heck of a show this year
  18. so in 2003 and 2013 Texas Bands took 3 spots in the top 5 at Gnats - hopefully we will see the same or better this year
  19. let's finish this off so we can get back to the discussion at hand First - my use of "have a nice day" is in no way intended to be a flippant remark or in any way intended as an act of passive aggression. I truly mean that when I say it I live my life with the understanding that opinions are like feet, everyone has them and at some point in time they will all stink, that does not reduce their right to have those feet and I cannot just cut someones feet off because I do not like them. we are all entitled to our opinion and how we express it. Second - as to abdicating your crown - chances are I already had it as I have had plenty of heat for my comments in the past. Third - while someone made a comment about hiding behind a computer log in name - I make no bones about my bias, I have disclosed my name - and invited everyone on this site to join our GNats FB page that I administer - where once approved everyone can see my personal information - I hide behind nothing. you have obviously seen my posts in the past - I have repeatedly made it clear that my opinions are exactly that - mine, they do not represent the organization that I wholeheartedly support it is a shame that we have come to a time when everyone feels that if you don't agree, then we are enemies. wish we could go back to a time when that was not the case so I will say again - have a great evening and I hope to enjoy your comments on this board in the future now lets get back to the Texas Invasion of Indy
  20. would not change a thing - was just returning what I perceived as received again - have a great day
  21. correct - I used a conservative number - the real cost can exceed $600K for a program to attend based on location of departure and if the program charters flights VS buses
  22. not a fan of walking the dog - and I don't plan any self-imposed exile anytime soon have a great day
