  1. Guys this is crazy. I'm looking at bands that have made Grand National Finals in just the past couple years and am going "Hmm....well I really can't put them any higher than 9th. There are just too many good bands".
  2. Congrats to the Bel Air (5A, El Paso) band for placing 7th in Finals at the BOA Utah Regional. It's a 12 hour drive from El Paso to St. George, UT. Finals recap: http://www.musicforall.org/images/PDFs/2016/Fall/Recaps/10.29.16_St_George_UT_FINALS.pdf
  3. lol, you've been watching every single BOA stream all the way through prelims haven't you? I don't think I could pick either. Anyway, I've seen almost all of the Houston heavy hitters, being that I saw every band at BOA Conroe and Area E Finals (still haven't seen some of the F bands like Spring and North Shore)....I've also seen the NEISD Trifecta (Churchill, Reagan, CTJ).....I still need to see Flower Mound, and most of the DFW schools and still quite a few of the Austin ones. Hopefully I'll catch a lot of them at San Antonio (I'm like 70% sure I'm going). So here are my favorites: Shows I'll definitely watch again: Reagan Claudia Taylor Johnson Shows I very much enjoyed and wouldn't mind seeing again: Klein Oak McNeil Brazoswood Cy Falls Cy Fair Other shows I really liked: SFA Pearland Oak Ridge Colleyville Heritage
  4. Moved to Upcoming Contests and renamed, since this has sort of become the de facto "State" thread.
  5. Storing these here, because UIL will likely take them down eventually. 6A_Area_G_Prelims.pdf 6A_Area_G_Finals.pdf

  8. 1. Definitely agree on Cy-Fair. It came off as the one show that was already attempting to look beyond where they currently were. 2. Agree on Friendswood. I had them in Top 5 and would not have assumed that going in.....I'm not even sure if I had them in Finals earlier this week....I might have. 3. I wanted Seven Lakes and JET to place higher....I thought they'd both be in the running.

  13. Storing them here....because UIL will likely take them down eventually. Hopefully they won't get lost the next time we update our forum software like the last batch did. 6A_Area_H_Prelims.pdf 6A_Area_H_Finals.pdf
  14. They still caption sweeped in prelims and won by just a hair under 3 points. Could've been a bad run....but I'd agree they're probably less invincible than in 2014.
  15. Let's hear them. Oh, and picking your own band is lame....give other bands some love
  16. Poor Area A doesn't have a thread . So I made one .
  17. I should be there for Finals with the Liveblog.
  18. A lot of them do have profiles on here, they just don't post (at least not using their actual identities), though I'm pretty sure I have seen a couple....We've had more designers/composers post than directors though. Daniel Montoya Jr. lurks here and posts once in a blue moon. John Mackey has posted 4 times (last time was in 2009). We do usually get a few emails from directors each year around this time....mostly dealing with kids misrepresenting their programs ("X BAND SUUUUUUUXXXXX" etc. etc. ugh etc.).
  19. Sounds about right. Texas schools have gone on Thursday before, but bands who are more than 500 miles away from Indy have priority for Friday timeslots. Edit: I'm not directing that towards you specifically....just to the readers in general.
  20. Gonna throw out a few more inquiries of the SMBC regulars that haven't been mentioned for those in the know to add their knowledge: Reagan? Johnson? Churchill? (I know a few names who have been involved with NEISD in the past, just not sure if they're still there now) Coppell? Keller? Westlake?
  21. BOA has gotten quite the foothold in Texas. The NEISD juggernauts seem to have all but sworn off regular invitationals completely and now only do UIL and BOA. Churchill attended Austin, Plano & Conroe this year (making finals at each one), and will also be attending San Antonio (FOUR total regionals). It reminds me of when Carmel (IN) used to go around attending pretty much every BOA contest within traveling distance (including BOA San Antonio).
  22. Wasn't there a band that was forced to pick between State and BOA San Antonio a few years back, and they ended up going with the latter? I want to say it was SFA...
  23. Schedule: 1 Marshall 9:00 2 Samuel Clements 9:15 3 Del Rio 9:30 4 Steele 9:45 5 Vista Ridge 10:00 6 Clark 10:15 JUDGES' BREAK 7 Holmes 10:45 8 Brandeis 11:00 9 Southwest 11:15 10 Taft 11:30 11 Leander 11:45 12 O'Connor 12:00 JUDGES' LUNCH BREAK 13 Westlake 1:00 14 Eagle Pass 1:15 15 Warren 1:30 16 South San 1:45 17 Vandegrift 2:00 18 Brennan 2:15 JUDGES' BREAK 19 Stevens 2:45 20 Lake Travis 3:00 21 John Jay 3:15 22 Wagner 3:30 23 Judson 3:45 24 East Central 4:00
  24. Both Fossil Ridge (21st) and Birdville (22nd) ranked higher at this contest than they did at Plano (26th and 25th) despite there being twice as many bands (62). That's Texas for ya. Haltom was 14th in prelims, barely getting into Finals. .25 ahead of the 15th place band. They then moved up 5 places to 9th in Finals.
  25. 2005 right? I remember that one. One of the first shows I saw on Youtube, not long after it was launched. Oh, and Westfield 2002, freestyle rappers count as vocalists right? "Those trix are for kids"
