  1. It'll be another great year. 4A quality has increased pretty dramatically and it's exciting to see bands from almost every part of the state being very competitive. Quality of shows and performances is only going up, should be a blast at state again.
  2. I think Burnet is a very very very strong contender here, based on recent trajectory they'll be at the top IMO. Need to refresh myself with everyone else, but I'm thinking Taylor, Fredericksburg, La Grange, etc will do very well. I think Freeman could do well here too.
  3. High Plains Marching Festival: 1st) West Plains - 7 2nd) Canyon - 8 3rd) Randall - 17 4th) Amarillo - 18 5th) Caprock - 29 6th) Hereford - 31 7th) Canadian - 32 8th) Panhandle - 38 Percussion - Canyon Colorguard - Canyon Drum Majors - Canyon Andrews pulled out last minute.
  4. I'm super into what they're doing, show is awesome and the sound great. I think they'll make a run for sure.
  5. I'm really impressed. They get just a little better every year, I think this could be the year they advance.
  6. Please no more sigma rizz skibidi posts. Thank you. lol
  7. If you're referring to the 8 minutes, a lot of non UIL Texas contests will run that clock to give bands a chance to practice timing of show starts with announcements, see where they are, etc. I am just guessing here but that's usually the case at these kinds of shows.
  8. Some spicy discussion is fine, just please watch how we word things. Thank you! And congrats to all bands.
  9. CY-Fair is the freshest thing I have watched in Texas marching band in a LONG time. The musical pacing is insane.
  10. @Dave609 really appreciate your commentary!
  11. Really impressed with Lubbock Cooper Liberty. Second year for them, they looked really good. Particularly impressed visually. I could see them competing for an area finals spot in an increasingly competitive 4A Area A.
  12. I will report on the Canyon kids faces when Hebron and many of the other bands perform in finals. We don't get to see that in the panhandle
  13. Saw a Cypress Woods video. They sound GOOD.
  14. Small school scene is really exciting here. Should give us a preview, but a lot can change by November! Order last year here compared to the order by 4A state: Melissa - Anna (2nd) - Celina (4th) - North Lamar (9th) - China Spring (11th) - Sulphur Springs (14th) - Canton (15th) State - Celina (1st) - Anna (3rd) - Sulphur Springs (4th) - China Spring (5th) - North Lamar (9th) - Canton (14th) This is such a unique mix of large and small school. Should present some interesting spreads and results again!
  15. I think I like Round Rocks uniforms but it's hard to tell with how out of focus the camera is.
  16. Saw a video of Celina from a football stream on NFHS, no audio. They look good, can't tell much about the show yet. They're definitely not 160-170, looks like around 80 winds, 14 guard, 20 percussion, and 3 DMs. A little bigger than last year and the year before.
  17. Words like lame, boring, dull, etc. are not facts. We can keep things respectful and more civil or we can have another conversation.
  18. Again, please be respectful and think about the things you're typing on here.
  19. The park and bark thing is straight out of the 2000s for me as a comment. Bands are smarter now, especially in a classification who's champions are pretty pristinely clean/smart about their difficulty. Not that I think that recent champions shows are overtly easy, but they're pretty straight forward, simple, smart, and impeccably performed. It's been a little bit since we've seen a pretty intense/riskier show win, Canton 2018, North Lamar 2016, and Argyle 2008-2014 come to mind there. Since someone seems to have a grudge here, Sulphur Springs isn't doing anything out the ordinary. Big ensemble moments are holds, section technical features/solos are stationary and enhanced with choreo (which isn't easy in and of itself while playing harder licks), and on the move stuff tends to be big builds. It's very in line with what other bands are doing and fits well within the sheets that are now being used. The brass doing a big build on the move in their ballad at some pretty healthy step sizes is hardly easy either. Closer has some on the move stuff while playing the harder parts of Asphalt Cocktail. Their show is super fun and smartly designed. Can't wait to see how they do down the long run.
  20. I believe Bentonville is Wes Pendergrass unless that has changed. Really into their show this year.
  21. Top 5 (or 6 if it's a 12 band finals) from prelims get to perform in the latter half of finals, and the bottom 5 (or 6) perform first.
  22. Lets keep things civil here, we are starting to ride that line a little bit. Super competitive area, going to be exciting! But please be respectful in your comments.
