  1. Its Texas.... what do you expect.
  2. Think about it... UIL affects everything, not just band. And they've been around for a while. Only like... 101 years. Ever hear of the "No Pass No Play". Maybe the 8-Hour Rule. These make band, and everything, more fair. Not to be mean, but I bet if any of your bands actually succeeded in the State marching competitions, then you wouldn't hate it. You would praise it as the greatest system ever, because they had YOU as being good. Sure, UIL may usually have an array of score placements for Area and State competitions (it was better this year), but at least 60% of the competition's score is not left up to a vague category called GE in BOA. If you can find a better system for judging, please email it to Richard Floyd, UIL Music Director. uilmusic@uts.cc.utexas.edu
  3. Yeah, the site is programmed for 1024 x 768, and then I use 1280x1024 for my desktop.
  4. I vote me because I'm the only one without illegal filesharing software.
  5. Yikes... small resolution.
  6. *gasp* For a second there it looked like Windows 98. Stupid classic theme.
  7. I heard about him from a friend.. Isn't he crazy or something?
  8. Yes, I custom build computers and mod cases.
  9. My desktop: http://www.txbands.com/dynasty_desktop.jpg I normally have a boring XP one, but I took a picture of my computer so you could see a little about me. Note: 200 watt speakers (35/Desktop 130/Sub) make DCI music sound good. I'm open to any questions you have.
  10. And by the way... how on earth could you date someone in your own band program? You see them WAY too much, you've gotten to know them too well, and then you have all those pesky mutual friends. I can understand dating someone else who is in band because you met them at band camp or something... but not someone at your own school.
  11. Trash talking.
  12. (Please refer to my lengthy post in the Westlake thread) Well just remember... CP put on a BOA show last year. I mean, it was well over UIL's 8 minutes and they were playing and marching (similar to Reagan) before the real show started. This is a state year for 5A, so you might expect a more conventional, and thus competitive show.
  13. I PM'ed you Xenon. Dreamhost: 5% + $.30 PayPal: 2.9% + $.30 Amazon: 2.9% + $.30 We'd prefer PayPal since we already have donated money in that account.
  14. Thats a good goal... Compared to all those bands that have set their goal on 7th place.... not 6th or 8th.... But 7th.
  15. Ok, here is the store with TxBands Logo and "...Because band is just better in Texas" http://www.txbands.com/onlinestore/cafe_store.php?catid=4
  16. Yes, I'm actually working on that now. It just takes about an hour to set up each store with a different picture. Yeah well its looking that Polo Shirts may cost more than our server costs, but the money comes out of me and Clarinot's pockets (not the donate/store fund).
  17. And YES! If you buy stuff you can get the stylish PURPLE "I bought TxB Gear" icon under your name! Note: You can also get a donator one by donating.
  18. Well folks, in a last ditch effort to get enough money to cover our server expences *ahem* (which expires in 2 months mind you!), we have launched the Official TxBands.com Store through CafePress. You can view all of the items for sale by going here, or anytime by clicking on the Shop@TxB link at the top of the page. When you select "Buy", you will be forwarded to a CafePress page to complete your order. You can get cool items like shirts, hats, mousepads, and yes, even wall clocks. So go buy something cool! To be brutally honest... I know everything is EXPENSIVE! There really isn't a whole lot we can do about that. CafePress is set up so that there is a base price for each item. Then, I get to mark-up the prices and earn (neglegable) profit for my account. Out of all the items, we are at most earning a profit of $3.01 and at least earning $1.01. Overall, we are averaging about $2.43 profit on each purchase you make. The TxBands.Com Promise ALL, yes, 100%, of the profits earned through Donations and the Store, no matter what the date or occasion, will be put into the fund for the website. I promise I will not go buy valve oil with YOUR money, and I'll make sure Clarinot doesn't spend it on reeds or anything.
  19. The main purpose of the introduction is so when Google crawls the site that we get put up high on keyword searches. But yes, after we finish re-doing predictions, and assorted other secret activities for next season, we'll give the website a new look.
  20. Yes Folks, MeetMe will live on next year at the contests! This year (2005) we had a rather dismal turn-out at Houston, but a very good turn-out at San Antonio! It's always fun to get to meet the people you chat with online in person. If you are not familiar with MeetMe, basically after we break ranks, the TxBands people gather at a certain spot on the field to greet, thank, and jeer each other. Our goal is to make this an annual and exciting event that can live on well past the High School days of me and Clarinot. The official MeetMe page is at: http://www.txbands.com/meetme (closed for the season). When we get more information about the 2006 Regional dates and what contests Clarinot and I plan to attend, we can organize MeetMe for 2006. Until then, this thread is Closed!
  21. Allow me to start this conversation with a brief FAQ: Question 1) Is TxBPress a real press outlet? According to dictionary.com the press is: The collecting and publishing or broadcasting of news; journalism in general. The entirety of media and agencies that collect, publish, transmit, or broadcast the news. The people involved in the media, as news reporters, photographers, publishers, and broadcasters. Commentary or coverage especially in print media Therefore, since we have journalists, and publish our media online in the form of News, Articles and reviews, YES! we are a REAL press outlet. Question 2) You don't actually publish or sell anything do you? Physically, no, we don't publish anything. You will never see a newspaper with TxBands.com on the top (at least not right now.) However, we publish it at http://content.txbands.com for all to read! Of course we don't sell anything... since when has this site ever costed anything? Question 3) Do you have reporters and writers? Yes, of course. See below if you are interested. Question 4) Where do you plan to go with TxBPress? Our only goal is to bring news to the community and build relationships with the organizations and programs of the band community, for free. Interested in TxBPress? News: Must be very internet oriented to scout for news Familiar with DCI, BOA, UIL, and other companies that publish press releases Articles: Willing to write 2 to 4 articles per month Topics will be chosen at free will, but submitted to an Admin prior to research/writing Ideas include: Criticisms, Interviews, and Other Band Related Stuff Reviews: Must be graduated from high school Plan to attend 2-3 major contests (you will choose based on your schedule) In depth reviews are preferred, with a brief over prelims followed by a detailed finals Other Sections: If you want to have a feature like mbui's Show of the Week, contact me via PM! If you choose to take on the responsibilities, we *might* be able to get you a polo shirt and LAMINATED (exciting!) press pass.
  22. For next season: 3. Fantasy Marching Band Kind of like Fantasy football, but band-style. Look for it next year, assuming we can make it work! 4. Updated Predictions System Revamps to the predictions will make it so users can't duplicate groups, and must enter all fields to predict. More prediction opportunities. Also, to seperate the scores, everything will be inflated. More on that to come in May/June when DCI starts. 5. News, Articles, and Rant Sections, as well as a *possible* blog for clarinot and dynasty to complain about life. Meh, no description needed.
  23. LD Bell 1964 I know of a 1961 too, but the video isn't that good (just no good way to take video back then)
  24. How do you not agree? Did you see the show at Grand Nationals. I figure you probably saw it at North Texas when you beat Bell, but stuff can really, really change in a week.
