  1. However the Austin area gets split, it should be interesting now. Also, like someone said in a different thread, go ahead and ship the 2017 5A championship to Cedar Park
  2. I think a visual caption will come to Texas sooner rather than later. With some of the bands confirmed and rumored to attend next year, it could be next year (but I won't hold my breath, yet).
  3. Round Rock. Oh my god I was floored from what they put on the field this year, and every year for that matter.
  4. I would put money on Hebron grabbing at least one perfect 20 from a music judge if they went after Avon, Mason and Broken Arrow. And that they wouldn't have won the music caption by just .1.
  5. Hebron Homestead Round Rock Marian Catholic Harrison William Mason Blue Springs Carmel Avon Keller The Woodlands Broken Arrow would be the finals order, if my ideas on who would make finals is correct. Not looking great for Hebron. I think this order may lose them the music caption, and hopefully TWHS can pick it up instead if that should be the case. Hopefully they can keep that caption and a medal though.
  6. All five Texas bands have made semi-finals! Props to all of them. EDIT: And they all scored in the top 22!
  7. The Woodlands was really strong and much improved from San Antonio! I think they'll make a push for the top 6 at the least. Keller was fantastic as well. I think they'll be in, especially considering what we saw yesterday. They could push as high as 10th even, I believe. Hebron is in serious contention for the title. I would be shocked if they didn't take home Music.
  8. Leander has all of their estimated costs posted on their website and it's all-in less than 1400 dollars. That includes the hotel stay too. Flying has gotten way cheaper in the past few years while road travel has gotten less expensive too, but possibly less so. Especially considering the cost of at least 6 charter buses, about twoish days of road travel, and the cost of drivers. I would imagine trip costs with road travel to be less expensive, but probably only by 200-400. I know Bell drove and their trips topped $1000 even with their (relatively) massive fundraising and sponsorships in their every year period.
  9. Son Lux - Lost it to Trying Phillip Glass - Symphony #3 Sara Barielles - Once Upon Another Time And the rest is original music
  10. Speaking of LISD (Yes, I know everyone is tired of hearing about the same four schools all season), their superintendent had an interview today about their success last night! https://soundcloud.com/klbj-news-radio/lisd-sweeps-the-marching-band-competition?utm_source=soundcloud&utm_campaign=wtshare&utm_medium=Facebook&utm_content=https%3A%2F%2Fsoundcloud.com%2Fklbj-news-radio%2Flisd-sweeps-the-marching-band-competition You can listen to it above. He also talks about the power of music education in school, more generally, along with lauding Cedar Park, Vandegrift, Leander and Vista Ridge.
  11. The buzz going around the stands last night at State was that everyone but Cedar Park will be 6A.
  12. Absolutely, and probably an additional four - two each caption. Just dropping two as it stands now would very often eliminate two music judges or all marching judges and would provide a perverse incentive to completely focus on just one caption just to win, knowing that a severe weakness in the other caption would simply be dropped. Adding just one to each caption and dropping high/low within the caption also seems a bit bare too.
  13. I'm at the SMBC in person and I can verify that Cedar Park was all that. I would seriously be shocked if they don't win.
  14. They're also using Battle on the Ice, which Vandegrift used in 2013.
  15. I would imagine it's because with the eight hour rule, practice time is limited and few bands want to give up hours to teach a marching drumline show as well.
  16. 1) All of their school districts prevented them from moving. 2) They re-drew for a position with the other Austin area bands and got the 4:30 slot. And to point two, nobody knows how bad the weather can be until it happens. Now, let's move on. This conversation beats a dead horse and won't go anywhere. Dripping Springs and Leander still have another chance to finish their season strong, and Hendrickson will be able to give their seniors a run in the night show.
  17. Adding bands to the end of prelims was never going to happen past the two slots they added. I'm very, very close to one of the three programs affected by this decision, and am still upset as an alumnus, but nothing is going to change at this point. BOA couldn't accommodate it, and I know directors, district administrators as well as executive MFA staff were on the phone until about 11 last night trying to make solutions. We can hypothesize and formulate and guess all we want to, but if they said their hands are tied, then they're tied. It sucks to see that happen to two upper bubble bands and a potential medalist, but life unfortunately isn't fair. But the most important thing is that Hendrickson will be able to give its seniors one last run in the Dome with a great exhibition spot, and Dripping Springs and Leander at least get practice in the dome before State, where they both have a chance to medal (and in Leander's case, win). We've gotta move on.
  18. Looks like Hendrickson may only be an exhibition. Pulling from multiple sources and trying to conclude something.
  19. Dripping Springs took an exhibition spot as well, from what I'm hearing. Well, that's a for sure finalist space open, and probably two.
  20. Leander will only be performing in an unjudged exhibition during the judge's break at 1:15 to prepare for State. No evaluation, no chance at finals.
