    UIL 6A Area J 2025

Looking at the recaps, I find it pretty sick that through the entire program, there isn't a school you could consider "bad" at all, which is the special part about this area, as there is not one band that you could say doesn't have a quality program or show in Area J.

  3. Not as bad as a history of posting hateful comments towards a group of high school band kids.

  4. I would like to congratulate everyone. This area has improved so much. This year was the strongest I've seen in a while. I could definitely see any of the finalist bands make it to state in other areas. Even those that didn't make finals, y'all did amazing. I will say, one thing I don't like about Uil (in general, not just in area c) is the size differences. I get that they do it based on school enrollment but I feel like some of these bands are at a disadvantage. We have 6a bands with 100-150 people and others with close to 300. Sometimes this is due to a low percentage of the school being in the band BUT other times it is due to the school population itself. In Texas we have 6a schools with a little more than 2000 students but since 6a is the largest, we have multiple schools in the 4000s. Including The Woodlands with over 4500. My suggestion is treating it like football with 6a I and 6a II in the playoffs (this case it would be in area). As far as area c, to the bands that didn't make finals, y'all did great. I unfortunately missed a good amount of the earlier bands but one band that truly surprised me was the Garland band. Y'all did great and I think that yalls placement does not properly reflect yalls performance. I do feel bad that Skyline was not able to perform, I was looking forward to watching y'all. And to all the bands that had to perform after the rain, way to face adversity. I don't remember what band it was but I personally saw 3 people fall... and get up and continue. Way to deal with adversity. Speaking of adversity, congratulations to all the bands that had major director changes. Y'all performed great; some of y'all had the success that y'all wanted while others didn't. To those that didn't have the success y'all wanted, remember that next year will probably do better since the new directors will have time to fully run and plan the program how they want. To those that did have the success they wanted, imagine how much better y'all can be next year with stability in the leadership. Ok so now that I've said that, I would like to share some things that I noticed and liked from the finalist bands. I wrote these during the finals performance; I did start halfway though so I did do the bottom five from memory. Also, since all these schools made finals, it is a given that all of y'all had great shows, woodwinds, guard, brass, front ensembles, soloists, and drumlines. Waxahachie- Great woodwinds Forney- WOW (that's all I wrote) I mean everything was great, and to the girl that did all those flips in the wet field, amazing! Rockwall- Marching, it was so clean! Heath- LOUD (wall of sound). SOLID Solos. (congrats on making state for the first time, Enjoy the trip) Sachse- Great use of the whole field, Great Front ensemble North Forney- Great props JJ Pearce- Clean Lake Highlands- Great soft spots. Great Guard Duncanville-Great props, Great Guard Berkner- Great show theme, Great Drumline Also Contacts to our state qualifiers, I just know y'all will represent Area C Great. Go show everyone that Dallas has 3 great areas, not just 2. I would not be surprised if all 4 of our state qualifiers get close to the state finals, probably 1-16. Once again, congrats to everyone.

Sachse had a much harder show than what the kids were accustomed to this year. Even without the head director change, I expected them to have a down year. Nevertheless, those kids have nothing to hang their heads on - they had an excellent season. They will continue to grow, and they will be back!

  10. Freeman made it to state in just its second year. I feel like once Freeman moves up to 6A either in the 2026 or 2028 realignment. it’s definitely going to shake up the area with a potential new finalist!

Pack it up? Time to for that program to give up any hope of making state? What do you mean? This is a mean spirited comment. This area is truly unexciting. You have 2 state champions, 1 bubble band for state finals, and Lake Travis, which is a fine program, but not yet at the same level as the top 3. If there's gonna be a band falling out of the top 4, realistically it'd be LT, and the band taking its place would realistically be Brandeis. It's kinda the ONLY interesting point of conversation in this area. Now, I actually believed both were weaker this year, so I thought another band might take their place. Looks like they had weaker early season performances (though I wouldn't call TMC early season). I'm not in favor of redistricting btw. Vandy and Vista likely won't be as dominant in 20 years. Westlake has been up there forever so they might tbh. Marshall used to be a powerhouse for UIL (their 1990 show could still make state finals). Taft has made BOA SA finals (given it wasn't a super regional then). O'Connor was a bubble band for SA Finals in the early 2010s. You never know where the next powerhouse will be.

  16. Absolutely fell in love with Wylie's show. I think they should've been 4th imo. And don't get me started on FlowerMounds. ABSOLUTELY beautiful show. Honestly idk how kids go to area knowing these bands are also there. I'd personally crawl up in a ball give up. Props to any kid who goes and give it their all knowing the odds aren't exactly in their favor. Coming from 4a area B, I thought that area was brutal, but DARN all these bands are basically fighting for 1 spot every single year and every single band is astonishing.

  21. I don’t think so. PC was one of the first bands to go and CS one of the last. Looks like an early draw hurt PC. I think CS will slip this year. They don’t sound that good this year and the show is kinda boring. It’s not the kids fault. It the arrangement. I love new world symphony. I really dislike this take on it. State finals yes, but 7-9 place. PC is amazing. They are the only band I’ve seen that can legit challenge Celina.

As a kid from a finalist band in this area that didn't make state, it is VERY difficult. It really hard to not feel like a disappointment or a failure in this area when you don't make the top 4, but its also important to have perspective. its easy to feel hopeless, but there are bands in this country that dream of being half as funded or big or strong as the bands in this area. I do also think that making area j was a mistake, its very unfair to the kids that are working so hard and deserve to have the opportunity to go to state, however in this area its just hopeless for anyone outside the top 4.

  26. Yeah but remember that the judges weren’t judging all music. Judge 1 was WW, 2 was brass, and 3 was percussion. They just aren’t labeled that way on the results sheet (and I think they should be).

  27. Ok so after most of Area, I do have some new contenders imo for being a state finalist. LD Bell, probably the best they’ve looked in a while. MGJ, they have been a powerhouse this year. And Dripping Springs, taking over Ronald Reagan. These are just some bands to look out for.

Good morning everyone! so my connection was beyond bad and trying to post was impossible after prelims, so little recap time. As far as finalists, I don’t think they got it wrong. PESH’s run wasn’t imo their strongest, def not as far out as they were but Rockhill really gave it their all, and Wylie East…yeah they rocked it yesterday, that show was cleannnnnn. Waco was def terrible judging. As far as finals, it was insane. Braswell had some great moments, really love the drill in their show. McKinney Boyd, can’t get over their sound. People around me were jumping around in their seats during that opening hit. Happy to see RH back in, was def their strongest week. McKinney, again just huge sound, people will love this at the SR! Wylie, yeah they should have been 4th imo. I didn’t understand their scores at all, and this is not to hate on WE or prosper, but they felt like 4th to me. Again East was fantastic, should have been 1st out as they were, but thought they had a stronger chance. Prosper was really good, but to me at least weren’t as clean overall based on things I heard and saw, but what was strong blew me away. And then the big 3….not real. It was an amazing night, unfortunately already my last live comp of the season as I’m not able to go to San Antonio anymore, but congrats again to everyone!

  39. My thoughts in performance order before results released. Braswell: sick show, sounded like a mini drum corps with all of the 2023 dci references, great show from braswell as always! Mckinney Boyd: crazy opener and volume overall, soloists were great and the tuba pedal solo was so fun. tons of great clarity overall Rock Hill: very cool show! brass was powerful and there was some challenging drill that was very well executed! McKinney: Wow!! such an entertaining show to watch!! the trombone ballad soloist tone was beautiful. center marimba in the closer was going OFF on the cymbals XD amazing job Mckinney! Wylie: what a show!!! very entertaining show with some really pristine moments. jazz sax and trumpet soloists in the ballad were beautiful, and WOW!! that closer hit was fantastic! Great job TWB! Wylie East: yall that was genuinely jaw dropping. the ballad gave me head to toe chills, 3rd mvmt beast trombone feature was amazing, and the closer was so powerful. amazing job WE!! Prosper: Amazing show prosper! great clarity all throughout, brass and woodwind power! (also some of the coolest unis ive seen all year) Hebron: I mean come on. it’s hebron. brass was on point, heard some crazy high stuff from the lead trumpet(s) woodwinds in part 4 were on point and the perc break was very cool! amazing show hebron! Marcus: if there’s one word to describe marcus, it would be Excellent. marcus is such a beautiful sounding program, and the timpani solo was so cool XD Flower mound: show of the night hands down. the emotion and cleanliness were so evident. the brass feature was so sick and the “new” closer was so loud and enjoyable. fantastic job flomo!! My personal top 5(based off my opinion) 1. Flomo 2.Hebron 3.Wylie East 4.Wylie 5.Marcus Very eager to see results!!!
