  1. In a email today from General Effect Media they listed all the States with the number of Bands by state attending BOA competitions in 2023 (665 Bands total). I thought it would be interesting to find the weighted midpoint location in the US for the attending Bands. I used the Website "geomidpoint.com" and plotted the Lat. and Long. for each state capitol city with the weight being the number of attending Bands in that State. I found the closest Major Cities to the midpoint are Little Rock & Memphis. The midpoint itself is the town of Melbourne Arkansas. My main question on this is for LeanderMomma as I think this is not far from her home. Was the location you selected for your move out of Texas planned based on being close to the center of the BOA Band World? 🤪List of Bands by State from GEM:

  5. Probably never but all I know is Southlake got 7th at nats and Keller made 14th at San Antonio. From what I see, Southlake is only getting better.

  6. Oh that's really sad! I know those are important nights for the band, too because it shows the middle schoolers what they have to look forward to and helps with retention.

  8. Glad to see The Colony so high! We just came off of an amazing season and it’s going really well for mid September, it’s our first year at this competition (every year we have gone to HEB) so it’s exciting to see how this will go!

Supeerrrrr excited for Duncanville show this year. Their theme is a very interesting theme with good music, and ive also heard that they have a different uniform for every section. Which will be amazing visually on the field.

  10. Here is the schedule. Lots big hitters (and now Hebron also as seafoodbuffet stated) will be interesting to see how this play's out! I love how the groups are classified a bit differently than UIL and BOA with Cedar Park competing with the Advanced Large Group. CP has done very well in the past competing at this level in this contest. 12. I could argue that this would be more accurate for this season, but I'll have to see as the season goes on 1. Pearland (of course) 2/3. Dawson (I believe that they have a good chance at maintaining that second spot at finals) 2/3/4. Dickinson (Their show has a lot of potential, but I could see them floating between the 2nd through 4th spot) 3/4. Clear Brook (Looking at their show it had a lot of good potential and maybe they would be able to jump up to that third spot) 4/5. SFA (Mainly going from last year, but I think they have a good shot at a state spot and i heard that they have more people this year) 5/6/7/8 Shadow Creek/ Clements/ Brazoswood (I believe that each of these bands could have a good chance at being able to get that 5th spot in finals mainly Clements or Brazoswood. With how these bands are, theres a good chance that the 5th-9th spots will change between prelims and finals) 7/8/9. Clear Falls (With how competitive the top bands are in this area, I find it hard to think they would be able to get that 5th spot in finals) 9/10. Clear Lake (Of course I believe that we'll also see Clear Lake in finals) Maybe perhaps Travis and Pasadena Memorial could show at finals this year, depending on how well their shows are.

Last year I would have given you that Coppell was better than Keller. Waxahachie I didn’t quite see it, but yes they did make finals. Timber Creek over Keller was a big surprise to me that seemed more correct at State.

  14. Idk if I’d say that. I’ve seen their ht show and maybe it’s not as many as usual, but they are still huge in numbers. They do however look snd sound pretty good, very excited to see them here! Anytime by chance have the schedule for this comp?

  17. Mesquite always has a band competition every year. However, there are several other competitions around the area that same weekend as well. I know there is a big one the same day in Princeton as well.

  20. After seeing some online performances, there are some pretty strong contenders this year for the top spot IMO: Roma, Del Rio, Pioneer, and JBA Their shows seem to check off all the boxes well: Content & design, ensemble sound, guard work and of course the all mighty GE. Lots of bands seem like they are in much better positions for this time of year than in the recent past, which is going to create a wonderful show for both 6A and 5A Area. Early finalist predictions: Roma, Del Rio, Pioneer, JBA, Pieper, Hidalgo, Edinburg, United, PSJA, PSJA SW, Weslaco, Pace (bubble) Vela, Ed North, RGC

    Early season videos

looooove College Park's music, that opening is so interesting, well done by the trpts. turpits!! also euphonium ensemble Electric Counterpoint ftw. kinda got a little bit of goosebumps from the ballad too. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=s5f_w8cyfRk stiiill need to focus on improving vis performance imo, like down to the level of fundamental marching technique. they've got the resources for that + one of the best music programs in the state. no excuses!!! u can do it!!! guard's unis are such a mood lol. love the futuristic visors. wonder if it makes things harder to see tho. camera just had to cut away right before that girl finished her front walkover toss!! ugh!!! does this guard also benefit from junior high guard classes for PE credit? just curious.
