  2. If Garland and Rowlett do End up moving down, I think state is anybody’s game. I think Garland and Rowlett are bands that are seeing some improvement in their program, I really do believe they can score high, making this area even more interesting… Can’t wait to see more possible state spots open up and more importantly what show themes all the schools are Having !
  3. First of all @Rubisco, it’s good to be able to communicate again! Come back, @packwick! Patti Smith’s Birdland is correct. Whether it’s the entire program, I can’t say for sure. There are countless reasons to celebrate Cyndi Robbins and her instructional/creative team. To their credit, they are not sitting back and playing it safe this season. It will be exciting to see the 32, younger but EXTREMELY talented, performers bring the rock and poetry of Smith’s Birdland to life.

  6. No video yet, but I read on Facebook that TWHS world is doing Patti Smith's Birdland. I can't confirm whether that's true, or if it's the whole show or part of it. @TWHSPercDad @packwick It does kind of seem like a strange, experimental song that they would choose. Not at all pedestrian. It could, however, be quite divisive.
  7. Brutally Honest 5A Area B 2026 Predictions. 1. LT/Argyle(Advance to State) 2. Argyle/LT (Advance to State) 3. Lone Star (Advance to State) 4. MN/Melissa (Advance to State) 5. Melissa/MN 6. Reedy 7. Heritage 8. Emerson 9. Independence 10. Lovejoy Don't really got nothing much to say for this one anymore, these are the bands who genuinely can and probably will get this placement. 4 of these schools have been to state and know how to get it again. Lt, Argyle, Ls, Mn, are all super good with scores and teaching and I personally don't think a band besides Melissa or Reedy could even creep to 5th place or higher. For the 5-10 Range, Melissa can probably beat Mckinney North for 5th. I think Reedy and Heritage will do better this year, Reedy always scores higher early season but Heritage always comes out later on top, with these schools its more of a passion project and the kids either get super motivated in the beginning, or the end. for Emerson Independence Lovejoy, I got nothing to really say for them, I just expect better show design. This Area is sort of like a Baby 6A Area J, no matter how hard you try you wont even beat the Top 4, They just get better and better every year. Now with a few stretches, you could get into the 5-7 Range, but these schools are different than the other 6 finalist schools when it comes to competition. There is some inconsistencies recently when it came between Argyle and Lebanon Trail and Mckinney North the past 2 years, but Wakeland left the area. So these schools will just take the Top 4 Spots. Cheers. Feel free to try to argue with my rankings. Past Scores BEATS Biased Predictions. For example lets just say putting a band like Emerson in 4th Place wouldn't make sense without any evidence to back it up.
  8. If Kaufman comes to C, then this is a battle between Sulphur and them. Bridge City, North Lamar and Pine Tree will battle for 3rd. I’d like to see a Canton or Wills Point surprise for the 6th spot.
  9. Way too early predictions. 1.Sulphur Springs 2.Kaufman 3.China Spring 4.Krum 5.Farmersville 6.Pleasant Grove 7.Pine Tree 8.North Lamar 9.Howe 10.Kennendale 11.Commerce 12.Brock
  10. Here's reigning Indy champ Warren Central from a week ago, too. https://youtu.be/aR5o91KTqkY?si=rou3UVtuj5ZXQbvx I love how they let the performers just go for it. Difficulty and risk from start to finish. Right away: A line of six sit rolls under 5s on rifle, with an additional hula hoop under the toss, reminiscent of TWHS from last year, except without the connection into another toss-turn-catch. Then a sequence of two-turns under rifles, some ambidextrous juggler work with two rifles, and part of the flag ensemble doing forward rolls under the toss at the end. Wow! Some cleaning to do, obviously, but they're starting from a great place. Not 100% sold on the overall show yet. Not quite coming together upstairs. Not a huge fan of Pat Metheny's First Circle or narration, either, but that's a personal preference. Still, I could see it grow on me as the season progresses. I think they may have more stuff to add aesthetically, too.
  11. Jersey Village from WGI Houston last week. Filmed from behind. The song is Home, from The Wiz. I believe it's the Billy Porter version. It sort of gives Leander 2018 vibes. Gorgeous scenic design and amazing performance for Feb 7th. They have two months to clean it, and they already look like this?! Dayton finals incoming, I think. We'll see. I can't wait to see this one from a better angle. https://youtu.be/fpdpaubCNXY?si=jYre1xPEcHJPrMv1
  12. Thought I would start a thread for this.
  13. Actually, according to UIL music contest rules, when a school opts up for athletics, any of the music programs in that school (not just band) have the option to either opt up with athletics or remain in the lower conference which reflects their enrollment number. Most if not all programs do the latter; it’s just not common at all for music programs to opt up (for example, DeSoto). If what the music realignment website currently shows is in fact correct, then we are seeing a pretty big change from that standard.

  17. Yesterday
  18. there's no opting up for band. Opting up only affects sports not band
  19. Based purely on marching band results, I think the correct answer here is Bridgeland. Has any other Texas band gone from non-regional finalist to National, BOA SA, and UIL State finalist in this interval? I can't think of any off the top of my head. And if you look just a few years prior, to when the school opened in 2017, they placed next to last place at BOA Conroe prelims. That's a lot of growth!
  20. I’ve been talking a lot with my Rockwall friend and they have definitely had a lot of growth as a band. From going to 11th in 2022 to making BOA finals in 24 and 25 to making state. I just wanna put in a good word for them.
  21. And also hope the judges aren't harsh on them so they experience the same problem Foster did, that would be rough
  22. Last week
  23. One day!!! So excited
  24. First time in 6A in school history I believe!! I see them making finals in this area, but maybe not state yet until they get more seasoned in 6A
  25. Yeah it’s a lot! UIL has post on their instagram about who’s moved up and down to and from each class if that helps!
  26. Man I cant keep up with these dang opt ups, Ill update it after Im done with work😭😭
  27. Barbers Hill moving to 6A is still a big deal… They weren’t far off from 5A state finals at all last year so they have a LEGITIMATE chance of doing really really good in the 6A area
  28. Currently, the TMEA/UIL realignment website shows Garland and Rowlett as 6A; this is after they finished up district shifts between regions. I will put them as 5A in these early predictions, and put in parentheses who would be there if Garland and Rowlett choose to compete in 6A: 1. Poteet 2. Lakeview Centennial 3. North Mesquite 4. Highland Park 5. Mesquite 6. Rowlett (West Mesquite) 7. Garland (Mount Pleasant) 8. West Mesquite (Terrell) 9. Mount Pleasant (Crandall) 10. Terrell (Naaman Forest / South Garland) There is a good chance that with the bands coming down from 6A, we could see 5 bands go to state if some of the Dallas ISD bands can start seeing some improvement; Molina seems to be on the right track. I think you could make an argument to put Mesquite over Highland Park. If Naaman can get a 1 (which they probably should've this season), they should be a dark horse area finals contender.
