gmtb617 Posted August 12, 2018 Posted August 12, 2018 Ditto the OP from “Area I 2018”. Thoughts and/or predictions? The fact that Area E isn’t as dense this year (quantity wise) will shake things up competitively for State contenders. Quote
wtier5 Posted September 14, 2018 Posted September 14, 2018 I know Friendswood lost their marching director to Dawson, and Dawson has a well put together show with many seniors this year. Quote
ChristopherRoden Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Now that the season has started with our first few BOA contests, any early season predictions? At McAllen, Brazoswood didn’t seem to be as strong as predicted with Seven Lakes (although not in Area E) coming ahead of them by quite a margin. What does everyone think this, along with the aforementioned Dawson (of whom there’s a video online) has to do with the outcomes in apprx a month? Quote
thebashful15 Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Waiting for BOA Conroe before I make any predictions. Quote
Astros Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 I think there is very little correlation between early BOA reults and end of year results. I just guessing 7 Lakes played entire show while Brazoswood didn't. Quote

Additionally, Seven Lakes was ahead of Brazoswood all last season. Quote
LostChoirGuy Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 I didnt see Brazoswood, so I can't compare them, but I thought that Seven Lakes came out looking like a top contender, which is very impressive for such an early place in the season. Their show has a lot of potential. Quote

Astros Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 It's really impressive what 7 Lakes has done dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. I guess Brazoswood didn't bounce back as quickly, but if it stop raining in Houston they still have time to get it all togethe! Quote
ChristopherRoden Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Austin beat out Pearland, Clear Brook, and Dawson this weekend at the Friendswood contest. Not terribly surprising but wonder if this will change by the time area comes around Quote

ChristopherRoden Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 There are 7 bands in this area that have recently made state Austin (11th at Conroe) Pearland (12th at Conroe) Dawson (4th at friendswood) Clear Brook (15th at Conroe) Dickinson (Can’t fins any info on contests) Brazoswood (10th at conroe) Clements (1st at Lamar Marching Invitational) Based on these primary results, any new predictions? DHSEncore Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 At Friendswood Bands didn't use Electronics so we don't really know. Dawson won USBands at Spring with a 90.314 Quote
thebashful15 Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 US Bands scores are generally higher than BOA scores by about 4-5 points - shouldn't be used to cross compare points across different competitions in my opinion. Quote

ChristopherRoden Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 If friendswood we’re still 6A, wouldn’t they be in this area as well? Quote
ChristopherRoden Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 Region 19 had 8 bands make a 1 and region 13 and 17 have yet to hold their contest. Recent news is that Elkins, even if they qualified for area, wouldn’t go because it’s their homecoming. Considering there are 22 bands in regions 13 and 17 combined, and considering all those bands are quite capable of making a 1 at region, Elkins opting not to go can potentially screw over 5th place if the bands in 13 and 17 all make ones... principalagent Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 Not true. As long as they get a 1, they still count toward advancement whether they go or not. Quote

Guest Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 Having seen most bands in the area: 1: Pearland 2: SFA 3: Bwood 4: Dawson 5: Clements 6: Travis 7: Clear Brook 8: Dickinson Quote

I would’ve switched a few of the others up as well. Dawson and Clements higher and Bwood and SFA lower Quote
