Keller actually has three guards! Their “A” guard is in between Varsity and JV. It’s still really impressive though considering that they aren’t technically a varsity guard.

Leander does not have their uniforms on for semis. Their hotel is currently in some type of lockdown and they were not allowed in to get their uniforms. Hopefully it won't hurt them. Go Leander! They looked great in spite of the unfortunate circumstances!!

Didn't make a lick of difference. They were clearly the best performance of the semis. To be honest, I didn't even notice. With many years of guard experience, I didn't see it.

I didn't think they missed a beat tho I know they were upset beforehand. They handled it professionally. I was very proud of them and I can't wait to see them in person tomorrow morning!

That’s fantastic. I knew they would persevere despite their disappointment over not having access to their uniforms! So proud of these kids.

I was in Bentonville just this morning. Crazy coincidence.

Must have been one of those non-guard people! I was one until my wife and daughter trained me in the correct lingo. Yep, learned a whole lot of things most men don't know about costumes, hair, and makeup...

If you can stay for CGT Dallas and some of the other top groups do.......they blew me away in prelims. I’m no guard expert but I LOVE what they’re doing.

I really want to but I’ve got to get home to Austin (I’ve been traveling in NW. Arkansas all week), and my daughter needs to get back to Texas State this afternoon. Not looking forward to the drive down I-35 today!

 

I do love watching those independent guards. They are so beautiful. I wish there had been an activity like this back when I was in color guard! Just stunning to watch!

Ok, the rest of the state got SCHOOLED! El Paso (Eastlake?) just showed us where it's AT! That was simply phenomenal and the only show all day to get a standing ovation. WORD!!

That show is an absolute blast, they’re gonna place really high in Dayton.

The guard world has changed a lot since then. Back then, the guard was made of oboe and flute players. Now, they recruit guard members from the dance classes in middle schools.

Leander outscored the winning guards in the other two power regionals this weekend by 2 points. Fine job! Different judges, for sure, but clearly showing them to be a strong contender for the very top of the World Championships.

I’m so excited for those kids. I hope they go to Worlds and win it all!

Unbelievable first WGI prelims performance from Stoneman Douglas. On a day when their (equally amazing) classmates are marching for their lives, these young women showed up and showed everyone what perseverance looks like. Absolutely phenomenal, breathtaking performance -- one that would have been great regardless of the circumstances. It was the best show I've seen all day, and I watched all of the Independent World groups at the Mid-East Power Regional. I strongly suspect they'll get a score that'll seed them around the top half of finals. Stoneman Douglas, you owned that floor.

West Broward, holy cow! Scholastic World must be where it's at this year. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant performance. The energy of this show reminds me of the best James Logan shows of the past. A funky, hip-hop crowd-pleaser, replete with skateboards and roller skates. Those girls know how to slay.

And a great performance from Tarpon as well. A high-octane show about bikers and rock music, featuring some pretty extraordinary ensemble weapon moments -- actually, some pretty extraordinary ensemble everything. That first big, group rifle toss had me hooked. Florida is on fire.
