Saw that enrollment numbers are out leading up to next month’s UIL realignment.

I know they have not announced the new cutoffs but any surprises?

Any predictions of Area changes?

if the 6A cutoff gets as low at 2200, 6A areas will be absolutely booming

Oh, and interesting news out of Royse City

They are 6A

But building a 2nd HS that was due to open a year from August…. But now they are reevaluating how to open it due to budget and bond issues.

1) May not even open during 2028

2) May phase in but all extracurriculars run at RCHS facilities

or

3) Open as a Middle school until they can finish build out

Tomball ISD is opening their new HS Tomball West soon (opens in 2026) and they already have a posted enrollment of 1137.15 (15th of a student???) which means TWHS (another one…) may be like Katy Freeman and begin in 4A and eventually be at 5A/6A after this realignment.

5A state finalists that are MOST likely remaining in 5A:

Lebanon Trail

Argyle

Lone Star

Burleson Centennial

Richland

McCallum

All of the LISD bands and Wakeland... There is definitely going to be a new first place

4A wise looks like in terms of state bands from this fall:

Moving Up to 5A:

  • Celina
  • Panther Creek
  • Legacy Ranch

Moving Down to 4A:

  • Kaufman

Bubble (but I am betting on these staying, consensus seems to be a cutoff of 1,290):

  • West Plains - 1,278
  • Davenport - 1,263 (more than likely safe)
  • Aubrey - 1,258.5 (more than likely safe)
  • Sulphur Springs - 1,254.5 (more than likely safe)

Some other move ups that I could have seen relevant at state in the near future are New Braunfels Long Creek and Prosper Richland.  Some other move downs that I think will maybe be relevant at the area level are Plainview and El Paso Andress in Area A (could see these both competing healthily in area finals and potentially snagging a 5th state spot) and Alice in Area E (was a state advancer in 4A in 2023).  Tomball West and Medina Valley Creek View are also new schools that open this next fall and will probably move up in 2028, but could make some noise like Panther Creek has in recent years.

Saw an article earlier that said Texas Enrollment was down over 45,000 from 2 yrs ago and with the addition of the new schools it's down to around a little over 30,000. It appears that numerous rural schools in 3A, 2A dropped enrollment including some 4A schools. It makes me curious if the 4A/3A cutoff and 3A/2A cutoff actually drops.

Any thoughts on a division 1/division 2 split as in athletics for bands?

I don't see that happening because there are several schools that compete in football that either don't have a band or have a band that competes in contests.

um how do you get .9 of a student

When a student only attends the school for a certain amount of the school day. It’s how we see some schools submit, for example, 1296.5, with a student only attending for half the day.

Those 2 things wouldn't be related though. Those schools just wouldn't have a band entry. That really isn't different than some of the Houston school bands who don't do the UIL marching track at all.

Frisco ISD has been really good for years at rezoning to avoid any of the schools moving up to 6A.  Does anyone with inside information know if they made a miscalculation with Wakeland HS this year or was this intentional?

I’d bet

1. they probably didn’t went to open up a new school. With how new schools like Emerson and PC are especially, and also just maybe finding land/costs

2. Wakeland is ready. Idk about all sports but bands is 100% gonna do well in 6A. They are and have been alrssu beating top 6A schools for a while, and I expect they will continue to. I have my money on them making state next year and maybe even finals tbh.

3. they made and oppsies 😂

I think they wrongly anticipated cutoff numbers.

Wakeland has beaten Prosper pretty considerably at BOA Prosper the past four competitions, three of those four by at least 2 points. I would bet they not only make state over Prosper (even in J), they could potentially compete for a top 10 finish at state.
