I know it is early but I was wondering what people think about Area D for the 5A schools. I believe it will be similar to last year but I would love to know your thoughts on the subject!

To start it off and I don't really know too much I believe that it will be really similar to last year.

Finalists -

1. Hendrickson HS   *Advance To State

2. Pieper HS   *Advance To State

3. Lake Belton HS   *Advance To State

4. Smithson Valley HS   *Advance To State

5. Jack C. Hays HS   *Advance To State

6. Belton HS

7. Anderson HS ( I believe they will move into finials because they have done well so far)

8. McCallum HS

9. LASA HS

10. Pflugerville HS

Note. - All finalists are subject to change depending on how they do this year.

Have really only been watching Pieper, SV, Hendrickson, and a bit of Hays. It's going to be a close fight for the top 5, especially considering recent comps, I think Hays could definitely beat SV

I am really curious to how that will sit out. I have not been focused on anyone in top 5 except Lake Belton. I believe that Hendrickson will win again but I am not sure how the rest will pan out. But Lake Belton has been having a really good year so far.

Lake Beltons record this year:

4th USBands Saginaw Marching Festival - Did not attend last year

2nd Vista Ridge - 5th Last Year

3rd Birdville Marching Festive - Did not attend last year

Any more predictions?

As of right now I am locked with my top 5 but as of right now I believe that 6-10 will get shuffled all around I have no locked predictions for those bands as it depends on the year.

Here’s my thoughts so far

1. Hendrickson - Easy and safe pick

2. Lake Belton - Quite the successful season so far, safe bet

3. Hays - What I’ve seen from them is quite impressive, however I am worried about the time slot for them. Last year the slotting was really bad at area, and Hays did not do so well with the early prelims time at Vista Ridge earlier this year.

4. Pieper - I don’t have a super good read on them, but I feel like they’re a safe pick

5/6. Smithson Valley / Anderson - I don’t have a good read on SV since they haven’t gone to many contests, but they really impressed me last year. Anderson has had some good success against many of the bands in this area earlier this season, so maybe they break their area finals drought here. I could see these going either way

7. Weiss - Having a good bounce back so far this year gaining some great momentum throughout the season, I can trust they’ll be around here

8/9. McCallum had a good start this year, but they were solidly behind Weiss at USBands the other week. Pflugerville did well at TMC so I think they’ll like be around here as well. These two were a bit hard to place, but both will likely be in

10. Belton/Lockhart - This is a tough one to place. I think Belton is the safer of the two because I have more to look at schedule wise, but I wouldn’t be surprised with Lockhart. Both have a favorable time slot

Wouldn’t be super surprised if New Braunfels makes it. LASA did surprisingly well last year so wouldn’t be out of left field to hear them called for finals

It’s going to be interesting on Saturday with this many bands that have a shot at doing well. Let’s see how those new area sheets work out here, they seemed fine last week for 4A and 6A

thoughts on lockhart?

Not sure this year. I would definitely put them like 8-10 but definitely not with the big hitters in this area like LB, SV, Pieper, Hendrickson, and Hays.

Man I'd love to see Anderson make it through to State this year.  Not only is it my alma mater but I know several people with kids in that band.

Stiff competition though.

It would be cool to see a change in this area and so someone like Anderson make it into state. But I just don't know if they have enough to make it past bands like LB, SV, Hendrickson, and Pieper. We could see though they are on the bubble I feel like 5th could be LASA, Hays, and Anderson. We will have to wait though only time will tell.

I don’t think SV is a lock for state this year. I think the new judging system is going to make them drop. Their brass style is bold and brash, I don’t think the brass judge is gonna like that. They could still make it though! I just don’t think they’re a lock.

Predictions:

1. Hendrickson

2. Lake Belton

3. Pieper

4. Jack C Hays

5. Anderson

6. Weiss

7. McCallum

8. Smithson Valley

9. New Braunfels

10. Belton

Bubble: Lockhart, LASA, Pflugerville

Rapid Fire Thoughts: Lake Belton COULD win. Anderson seems strong, I see them making state. SV is a question mark for me, could be higher, but almost placed them lower... Lockhart could easily be in finals, really don't know where to place them...They beat LASA in a competition this season, could see them as high as 8th.

He is I just think. He just roots for Anderson as he said because he knows people who have kids in the band. Lol I wondered the same thing at first.

I graduated from Anderson, well... back in the day. :)

I played French horn/mello in the Trojan marching band.  We weren't great but we had a lot of fun.  Crockett was actually the Central Texas power back then.

Some of my friends either still live in the neighborhood, or have moved back to the neighborhood, and have kids at Anderson now.

But I now live in Cedar Park and my kids are in the CP marching band.  So I root for both, along with just enjoying the marching arts in general.

That makes a lot more sense.

Rooting for Anderson!!! Think they got a great shot this year!! I’ll be at 5A state watching, so hope all goes well for both groups!
