The kids work hard because they’re driven to excellence and that excellence, like anything worth doing, takes effort. But if you need any evidence that they’re having fun, witness the drumlines/trombones from several schools who put on an impromptu performance of trombone suicide and then played cadences after retreat. I’m glad they’re relaxed enough to do that. That was perhaps my favorite part of the night. I don't think the pressure comes from the directors, but it's part of the "team" dynamic. No one wants to be the person that lets everyone else down. It's a great learning experience and teaches these kids a ton that they can apply to their adult life. gregorydf01 and utee94 2 Quote

Samuel Culper Posted October 6, 2025 Posted October 6, 2025 Does anyone have a copy of the Region 32 contest schedule? Only 10 days away, seems like it should be out there somewhere. Quote

Brandies was 1 point behind LT for prelims. It seems a breakthrough is very possible. If Brandies is even remotely better than last year then LT can’t afford to just remain complacent. we’re in for a battle coming October. I can agree on that but also the contrast of prelims to finals is very important LT is definately a second rep performance and there finals always perform better but brandies has be getting closer. I'd love to see a 5th spot soon I feel like so much good talent is wasted in the early rounds Lowbrassguy42 1 Quote

In prelims they beat LT in 2 captions and even beat westlake in one. Although Brandeis was in 5th across the board in finals, I’d say that it was still pretty close. @WhoWouldKnow since you went to LT, would you say that y’all were scared last year before finals results were announced. And the analogy you made about the expensive clarinet only has a slight correlation and not a causation plus there’s many gaps in the analogy too. as someone that also goes to LT I wouldn't say we were scared but almost motivated. with the increase in brandies scoring it makes it a challenge to overcome and brings a lot of motivation to the field. I would love to see a day where we can both make it I have so much love and respect for the band. Lowbrassguy42 and dullbanddad 2 Quote

gregorydf01 Posted October 8, 2025 Posted October 8, 2025 The 5A/6A Region 32 Contest has some great bands. Six of the Bands are in HornRank's top 24 in the Nation, not just Texas! Talk about a stacked Region! utee94 1 Quote

I liked LT's show when I saw it a few weeks ago, as well. A week ago we were talking about what a great bargain the LISD Festival of Bands is at $9 for 6 bands. $8 for these 9 bands is something pretty special. dullbanddad and gregorydf01 2 Quote

That being said, they really should've been in finals if they're still at the same level as the last few years. If it's not LT, and if Brandeis is truly struggling this year, it'll be whoever has the better show area finals night between (in a very light order recognizing these bands are all kinda at the same level): 1. Taft 2. O'Connor 3. Steele 4. Stevens 5. Sotomayor 6. Clark 7. Judson I'm still convinced LT will take it honestly. Quote

Gupton is super-easy because it's my "home" stadium, but I do like Rutledge both for quality of sound/sight, and ease of access. As a 5A band we'll be headed to Rutledge this year and we had a really great time there 2 years ago. Best of luck to all the Area H 6A bands, it's a great lineup of bands! dullbanddad and gregorydf01 2 Quote
