Berkner at their comp made some big improvements from prelims to finals at their comp on Saturday. I believe they moved up 13 points in musicality and 15 points in visual excellence. They earned percussion cap in prelims and were 1 point off in finals. If they continue this trend things could look good for them. Maybe a placement or 2 away from state.

theres a lot of risers in the area, i have berkner behind lake highlands and heath at that 8 spot...

I didn’t realize they’d placed second to last this past year. Seems like a really long way to fall sadly.

Ah yes, the one year wonder of John Horn. Frustrating for Sachse at the time, but I still wish they were able to build on that success. Covid seemed to knock the program back down. 

2014: don’t know the #, they were not in finals
2016: 21st
2018: 4th (state qualifier)
2020: 11th
2021: 23rd
2022: 26th
2023: 26th
2024: 20th

Saw a video of their show at Mesquite, and it looks and sounds fairly promising! I am interested in seeing how to show develops.

This might just be a personal thing but I've never really liked the Lake Highlands sounds. I don't know if it is the designers or the directors but I'm not a huge fan of it. Obviously they do well for themselves scoring wise but the judges are humans and will take into play personal enjoyment.

i thought i was crazy... but they do pretty good for themselves on the scoresheet, but i believe they're more early season than late season program like some of the top 4...

Agreed, I think Lake Highlands is extremely strong early season but either just can't keep up the stamina or something like that. Some schools seam like they are sprinting the full year while others like lake Highlands do a 100 meter dash then kinda walk it off

this is kinda honestly why you cant really judge schools until mid october to really get a glimpse of area...

Plus the culture of a band really determines how well they will do. I've heard stories from people of the band hall in Flomo and Marcus how it is just constant noise and a line of 60 kids waiting to get a room to practice in. If every kid at your school is practicing 5/8 classes a day then of course your band is going to be cracked. It's all culture.

Richardson has 4 castle stages, one is 3 feet tall, two 6ft, and one is 9 feet. They also have another stage that smokes/has fake fire, and a big dragon that still hasn't come in yet apparently, also the usual stand still props in front and back.

The JJ Pearce props are cool too, they have little earth looking globes all across the field and also the front and back props i think, seems the RISD schools have gotten more money towards band this season, might be better fundraising too though.

Berkner and Lake Highlands still don't have money, Richardson and Peace have some extreamly loaded people at the schools.

Is anyone going the McKinney marching invitational? Notable in this forum are North Forney, Rockwall Heath, and JJ Pearce (I might’ve forgotten some.) gonna be a STACKED comp from what I’ve heard

It’s Leander HS. From the videos it’s a bit much visually, but whatever floats their boat. They apparently got them donated.
