Going to the rival school that's still in that Area is crazy. Can't wait to see how this shapes out both schools.

Well I think his kids went to Pearce recently based on what I read, so he does have a connection to the school. He’s really nice and is bringing very good energy to the program! I went to Pearce’s show reveal and it looks good! Coming along pretty well with music!

With the new judging system in place, I wondered how it will affect this area, and also who would get first in each individual category. Anyone have any thoughts?

I think this is a positive thing, my only concern is if all the judges are band directors (5A ones Id assume), I'm worried that they might not have the ear for percussion that a percussionist might have. I know I sure don't.  And not that there aren't any directors who are percussionists, but I know they are few and far between. My solution would to be to have a special percussion judge, and he or she would be the only one to not switch from music to visuals for finals. I would assume that's the plan but this is new.

With that being said I do like the chances for captions now. Especially with all the kids on the field for the retreat it just gives more excitement In this area especially.

I think it's an overall big net positive.  Before all music judges were having to judge way too many subcaptions IMO (Content, Brass, Woodwinds, Percussion, Ensemble), and now it's just three (Ensemble Content, Ensemble Performance, and their specific caption).  So I guess all music judges were judging every caption in some way before, though you can usually tell which judges actually judged the whole sheet versus the ones who just wrote down a number for all of music.  If a judge has straight 1st's, straight 2nd's, straight 3rd's, etc. for every band with all those subcaptions.........they're probably not really judging all those subcaptions.

Everything I've heard about Sachse's marching band is that their other assistant that's staying brought a lot to the marching band side of things there so if that's true and they hire another good assistant I'm sure Sachse will be fine even with all their changes!

Sachse’s new assistant was announced this morning: Ryan King, previously with North Forney HS.

Sachse's new color guard director was announced about yesterday: Yisel Reynoso, previously a technician for Whitewright HS, and has lots of WGI experience. CG Assistant Director still open as of right now.

How many people did Sachse hire? This is like their 3rd hire?

Looks like this forum needs to move on from director talk and predictions.

Get these kids hydrated up, acclimated to the heat, and marching on the field so we can see some awesome performances of shows that can then make a run at surprising the Area J’s at state!

It’s almost go time in Texas!

To be fair there wasn’t really much else to talk about during the off season. Definitely looking forward to this season though 💪🏽

So you’re telling me….that Berkner and JJ Pearces’s directors just swapped?

Expand

not exactly berkners ex head director had a pretty well connection with Pearce as I have read since he had kids that went there. And Pearces old director and the assistant director both went to open a new school in prosper. And from what ive heard he brings a lot of positive energy. And im sure this won't harm jj Pearce at all, and honestly they might have a chance at state if they do super well like they did last year.
