Can't wait to see how this shapes out both schools. Well I think his kids went to Pearce recently based on what I read, so he does have a connection to the school. He’s really nice and is bringing very good energy to the program! I went to Pearce’s show reveal and it looks good! Coming along pretty well with music! SharksAreCool 1 Quote
SharksAreCool Posted July 7, 2025 Author Posted July 7, 2025 With the new judging system in place, I wondered how it will affect this area, and also who would get first in each individual category. Anyone have any thoughts? Quote

Anyone have any thoughts? I think this is a positive thing, my only concern is if all the judges are band directors (5A ones Id assume), I'm worried that they might not have the ear for percussion that a percussionist might have. I know I sure don't. And not that there aren't any directors who are percussionists, but I know they are few and far between. My solution would to be to have a special percussion judge, and he or she would be the only one to not switch from music to visuals for finals. I would assume that's the plan but this is new. With that being said I do like the chances for captions now. Especially with all the kids on the field for the retreat it just gives more excitement In this area especially. I think it's an overall big net positive. Before all music judges were having to judge way too many subcaptions IMO (Content, Brass, Woodwinds, Percussion, Ensemble), and now it's just three (Ensemble Content, Ensemble Performance, and their specific caption). So I guess all music judges were judging every caption in some way before, though you can usually tell which judges actually judged the whole sheet versus the ones who just wrote down a number for all of music. If a judge has straight 1st's, straight 2nd's, straight 3rd's, etc. for every band with all those subcaptions.........they're probably not really judging all those subcaptions. SharksAreCool 1 Quote

JFNDOWBFAN Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 *marches in, looks around at the old crib* Looks like this forum needs to move on from director talk and predictions. Get these kids hydrated up, acclimated to the heat, and marching on the field so we can see some awesome performances of shows that can then make a run at surprising the Area J’s at state! It’s almost go time in Texas! lost, SharksAreCool and BandDad11 2 1 Quote

And Pearces old director and the assistant director both went to open a new school in prosper. And from what ive heard he brings a lot of positive energy. And im sure this won't harm jj Pearce at all, and honestly they might have a chance at state if they do super well like they did last year. SharksAreCool and RandomGuardPerson 1 1 Quote

Popular Post BugWub24 Posted August 23, 2025 Popular Post Posted August 23, 2025 I'll throw in another round of predictions from me, with one week until the season of halftime performances! 1. Waxahachie 2. Forney 3. Sachse 4. Rockwall 5. Duncanville 6. J.J. Pearce 7. Lake Highlands 8. Berkner 9. Rockwall-Heath 10. Royse City Wax and Forney are the two top bands in the area with almost no notable staff changes. Sachse at a comfortable 3rd even with a mostly new staff. I think Rockwall jumps D-Ville this time around. I could see the RISD schools mixing around at 6-8, but I think Pearce is the stronger group. I thought I'd be spicy and get Royse City in here! They haven't made Area Finals in almost 20 years (they were a 3A at the time!), and they were right there with Richardson in Prelims last year. Richardson, Rowlett, North Garland, and North Forney would all be good contenders to crack the top 10. bandmom1213, RandomGuardPerson, JFNDOWBFAN and 1 other 4 Quote

My personal bias has Rockwall ahead of Sachse but we shall see! As for the spicy pick of Royse City, would love to see that. Quote

They were only one spot away from finals last year so I think it makes total sense. It just depends on how Richardson looks. bandlover27 1 Quote

From my understanding, the style change was a rumor and it's not happening. They still have all of their previous staff minus Teal. JFNDOWBFAN 1 Quote
