Wow, the dominance of Austin/ Dallas area bands is really prominent in 5A.  7 of the finalists came from DFW areas and 5 came from Austin.

It's also probably safe to assume that Midlothian and Hendrickson were very close to making finals and Reedy/ McKinney North probably would have been if more had qualified from area B.  Poteet and Liberty Hill were likely right there too.

Poteet tied for 12th with McCallum in prelims. Just didn’t have the luck of the draw to advance on.

I’d like to say something about these finals rankings today: I am disgusted with the conclusion the judges came to. It is disrespectful to neglect what bands like Lonestar offered musically and visually. Placing them at eighth is a sign of ignorance and injustice, displayed by the judging panel here today. Just because a band doesn’t have perfect balance on the field as they would in a concert room, or doesn’t put Beethoven or Mozart in their show, shouldn’t subtract from their music score as it most definitely did today. Cedar Park absolutely deserved this win today; however, winning content and design having no props and a show named “listen” with little to no general effect is… not just. Simply because the band has won every single other year shouldn’t mean that they get first in almost every single category this year. Understandably, picking famous names/composers to judge a state level marching competition will result in outcomes reflecting a concert band perspective. I’d like to urge for a reform in future UIL marching band judging panels!

Definitely a Lonestar Parent…

Absolutely atrocious take. I can’t tell if you’re making this comment in jest or not. I’d like an explanation for why you seem to not have enjoyed the wall of sound that Lonestar offered.

I am a huge fan of "The Wall of Sound." I never said I didn't like it. As a matter of fact it has been my preference in marching band since the mid 80s. PR's War and Peace Closer is one of my favorite company front wall of sound moments in all of marching competition. But just like any art, the perception of contemporary greatness has morphed and changed and we as fans need to do the same in our perception lest we become dated.

Maybe I'm getting 5A UIL rules confused with 6A rules - or BOA rules even - but what is the tiebreaker rules for advancing to finals?  I thought if you had a tie, they both went and that Judges preference didn't come in until finals.

Looking at Poteet and McCallum tying for 12th/13th....

They look at the both bands and go off what judge gave the lowest rating. So one judge had McCallum 13 and then Poteet at a 20 in one category and they will take the 13 lowest score. Basically whoever has the most lowest scores. That is what was explained to me. Believe me the kids are heartbroken over it, but hey, they placed 26 last year and tied for 12th this year and that’s a win in our books.

Who says they can't be both 😆

Who has made exactly zero comments about Argyle since the account was created yesterday. Can’t fool me!

As a former Wakeland parent this makes me laugh! 😂

And I am going to believe them when they say they are from Argyle.  The Argyle band community is probably as embarrassed of her as we were of WakelandSuperDuperFan!

I find it interesting Richland's content and design score dropped all the way from 6th in prelims to last in finals, I thought out of all the captions this would be the most consistent and unchanging but it ended up being the most volatile, anyone know why this could be?

I noticed this in 4A too. It was unexpected because it does seem like it shouldn’t be as dependent on the quality of the run.

Congratulations to the state finalist bands and to CP on another gold! I'm excited to see how the 5A landscape changes with the realignment (come on Glenn!!) and how Leander ISD does with additional representation in the 6A space. See y'all from the sidelines 💓

6A is going to be murderer's row for a few years

Is Cedar Park moving to 6A?

MOst likely along with Rouse. Snapshot numbers place them both in 6A next year but we will see once final class assignments are given out in the next few weeks.

Would be crazy. I performed with Wakeland in 2019, lost to CP as always...

That Wakeland 2019 show was FIRE and you guys performed the heck out of it! It's the show that I thought had the highest chance of beating CP on the run they have been on.

Most of these fans complaining don’t realize that prelims were judged by 7 judges and finals were judged by a completely different set of 7 judges. Nobody is in kahoots!

Except the kahoots makers who are all out to make people's lives miserable!

Also, forgot to mention you do realize props are not allowed to be scored in UIL. There are some directors that frown upon it. Yes, you can make the argument it helps enhance the show but that's it. Also, you should hopefully know that general effect also includes students doing visuals on the field, pacing of the show, emotion etc...etc...
