thou shalt oil valves BEFORE marching band rehearsal thou shalt NOT play the trumpet through one's nose, no matter how bored! (happened before) Thou shalt kiss the director's brASSes if it is less than two weeks until drum major auditions Thou shalt miss the entire day of school rather than showing up late to zero hour rehearsals! (one of our SOLOISTS this year missed almost 10 days of school because of this commandment!)

for section leader tryouts you: have an interview write an essay march box drill (left and right, while playing Bb scale) march diamond drill
-
we try out on the first monday or tuesday of may, and then results are posted about 30 min to an hour afterwords, then the next day section leader tryouts are held

Q: Who is the Ex-Governor of the state with the BEST high school bands? A: L.D. Bell High School Marching Band -
Yeah, we get the score to next years opener about a week before the auditions, and then must conduct it. I am praying that our directors let a junior be drum major, since it hasnt happened since the first senior class graduated (I am 99% positive thats true)
-
no, but in auditions they give you random tempos and time signatures and you must conduct them without looking at the met. So I am just trying to get a feel for different tempos. I am also conducting through last years show music. (It couldnt hurt)
-
I am trying out, there are two spots for grab, but I am only going to be a junior. I am writing my essay now, practicing conducting, and am going to the practice lot every week between now and may. I really want to be a DM for my last state year.

Indoor Drumline
titancoaster replied to chickora's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
my school does winter drumline, we have gotten first four out of the last 5 years! this year we have this weird visual ensembly, which includes me and five others marching around on the floor, its kind of funny we know the music and some drill (opener) but we have NO idea on a show title or theme, and ^those are the same dates and places as ours^ -

Ok I was wondering what other peoples opinions on my thoughts on the audition process. I feel that the music needs to be harder, our region band concert has harder stuff than the etudes, and possibly a short sightreading etude in the room, because there is this girl next to me in the region band who can barely read music, and her director is telling her all the fingerings and singing all the rythms. What we do in region band is basically sight reading plus a little more rehearsal, if they cant sight read, they shouldnt be in the band. Just my 2 cents -
solo and ensamble

Im doing a fairly hard trumpet solo, Nightsongs for Flugelgorn and/or Trumpet. I get to play on both the trumpet and flugel so its kinda cool hearing the two voices in the piece, but its got a lot of weird intervals. Oh well atleast I dont have to memorize, hehe, I love knowing the fact that there are songs you dont have to memorize! -
what moose said is correct, we have an idea of the show, but nothing is firm, and we wont say anything until the staff posts it on dci.org. The sound is incredible, after we stop palying we hear our sound reflecting off buildings (we weree outside) for atleast two beats!!!!! With our amazing texas talent and direction this corp will be in the top 10. We were told all weekend that we sound better at the december camp then they sounded in APRIL(drumline) or MAY(hornline) of last year.

Man, the Dec. camp was absolutly AMAZING, it was really cool playing in the brass arch, congrats and gl to all those like me who got another callback!

Well, I got 9th chair top band, this is really exciting for me, considering usually I do really bad at Region, and that I was fifth chair when you take out seniors. -
Falling Apart

At westlake prelims, right after our dance break in the third movement, our rack player rushed like nobodies buisness so one of our biggest musical moments was compleltly messed up, we all thought we were screwed for finals, but we still made it. That person was taken off the part immediatly -
I also made the next cut, congrats to all those who made it, there were many good people. The crossmen look to be an awsome corp in 2007!!

Live! BOA GN Finals Review
titancoaster replied to Xenon's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
All I have to say about GN is amazing! I never thought it would be as awsome as it was. The people are so friendly and the city is so clean. MY favorite part was getting to meet people from other bands. If any body from bell is reading this can you send me Caroline the clarinet player, i meat her at GN and would like to keep in contact, titancoaster@yahoo.com. The awards ceremony was really cool, and Bells new ending was so amazing and shocking, i still get goosebumbs. GO TEXAS!! -
last year on trumpet player had a kelly and he would laugh at us trying to play in the cold, so for this year half of the section ordered one and on the first day we used them our directors got all mad and said never use them agian, even though we asked them before we ordered and they said on cold days it was ok. Oh well thats a director for you, but they look so cool, and feel awsome on a cold day
