  1. I throw darts at balloons. Leave it to the Fates. Seriously, this is difficult to predict.
  2. 254 5A bands entered the Region Contest this year. After Monday night, 12 will be left. I have chills.
  3. Fair enough and point well taken! Darn. I was really looking forward to some chili.
  4. This is all getting really weird....even for me. Thread Closed.
  5. If a judge is leaving DESTRUCTIVE comments on a tape this late in the season, to a point where the program won’t waste the kid’s time playing those comments, then that judge needs to be reassigned to a chili cookoff or something.
  6. Good thing I built a sound proof room in these forums to rest in before the final two weeks of the season. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......
  7. UIL 5A State Schedule!! Areas are divided up as equally as possible for even representation in each block. The Area draws the number of slots they are certifying to State. After Areas name State Qualifiers, those bands draw within the numbers their Areas drew. Example: Area H drew slots 1, 8, 18, and 26. Therefore, the four State Qualifiers from Area H could only draw from those numbers.
  8. Results, tie-breakers, and a lot of programs experiencing some new success!! Throw cherries on it!!
  9. It has been discussed. However, when accounts are clearly made with the sole purpose of trolling the program, that's when the moderators have to step in.
  10. Example: Many years ago, The Woodlands, unknowingly, had a student who forged their grades to become eligible to march. That student participated in the Area contest which was a violation of UIL rules. The Woodlands called the UIL immediately after it was brought to their attention and self-reported the violation. They were disqualified from the State Contest and North Shore, the alternate, was allowed to take their place.
  11. If a band in that Area is unable to attend or is disqualified, the alternate band takes their place. Yes, it has happened before.
  12. In order to break a two-way tie, UIL uses something called Judge's Preference. What you do here is you take the two programs that are tied and line them up by themselves. Then, you see which program had the most judges rank them over the other program. Whoever "wins" the most judges is awarded the higher placement. In this example, Porter and Galena Park were tied for the final State Qualifier spot with a total score of 18 in Finals. When you line them up side by side, Porter won two music judges and one marching judge over Galena Park. Because that is a majority of the judges, Porter wins the tiebreaker and advances to the State Contest.

  16. State Qualifiers: Friendswood Foster Congratulations!
  17. There was an issue with a program regarding a UIL rules violation. We were unable to confirm the validity of the accusation so the posts were deleted. This, allegedly, has already been handled by the UIL and there is no impact to the contests this weekend.
  18. When I worked in Downtown San Antonio, people would always ask me where the best Mexican food on the Riverwalk is located. My answer: “It’s not on The Riverwalk.” Love Rosario’s!
  19. This happens every year. Tons of great programs everywhere! The 1 to 5 ratio is just fine with me. UIL has expanded the amount of Area Finalists for the areas with the most programs so that helps some. If there were enough slots of EVERY “deserving” program, there would be no need for an Area contest. Part of this activity is rising to the occasion when the lights are on
