Hey, that's the video I sent somebody. I don't remember who, though. It's from Richland's exhibition performance at Birdville.

Under the predictions thing, you guys have Plano as the tenth place finisher. I'm not 100%, but I'm pretty sure that Holliday was the band that received 10th place at Birdville. I remember because the band was not present during the finals awards ceremony, but they announced them as tenth place with a 60 something score. Edit: Also, you guys have Martin as winning the percussion caption, but it was a Marcus caption sweep.

Geez, guys. It's marching band. Everybody plays another piece that another band played 2 years ago. There's going to be a lot of overlap.

I think we oughta narrow the field down a bit to just between UIL and BOA, since DCI is a completely separate entity. UIL and BOA at least deal with marching band, while DCI is a corp. Very different stuff. Personally, I'm a huge fan of BOA and not so much of UIL. I enjoy BOA because of the diversity of the shows and it's almost as if it's a theater on the field. BOA type shows tend to be more dynamic and have a better connection with the audience. I believe they are much more crowd-friendly than your typical 8-minute UIL show. I respect UIL for awarding cleanliness. When you boil everything down to its components, marching band is really just about marching and playing and who can do it the cleanest. However, if a band has really easy drill and has say, 60 pages on the field, they'll obviously be cleaner than the band that has 120 total sets. It's just a numbers game, really. 60 is easier to clean than 120. 120 is way more difficult than 60. Yet UIL does not reward difficulty. Only what is on the field at the time. I think you have to take into account a bit of the extra unforeseen stuff. Like difficulty of show and GE. Also, the inconsistencies of UIL just really turn me off to it. The worst judging discrepancy I remember is Stephen F. Austin's 3rd place vote in music and dead last vote. Now, from what I hear, the 3rd place vote is the one that was out of line, but still. That's freakin' absurd. I just don't like the judging style. Just use a point system like the rest of the world. None of this 1, 2, 3, 4, 39823 crap. I know that the judges actually score the band and then after all is said and done, rank them, but I think UIL would be less ridiculed if they didn't do rankings. Anyways, that was my $.02. I've got two exams tomorrow, so maybe I'll go to sleep now.

Haha, all this Area B discussion reminds me of my senior year when Hebron was still 4A. We were hoping and praying for Lake Dallas to get a 1 at Region, and they didn't. Only 19 bands went to Area, with a list including Poteet, Sherman, Aledo, Wylie, J. J. Pearce, Hebron, and one or two more. It was ridiculous that they only allowed three bands from that Area. I hope that doesn't happen again. It is not fun being called as the alternate to State...

The best idea my friends and I had was being the Crazy 88's from Kill Bill. My friend Laura looks pretty similar to Lucy Liu, so she would've been O-Ren Ishii. I would've been the mad-crazy bald guy with the double swords and a bunch of other people would've been the rest of the 88's. Would've been real tite, but we never did it.

I saw the commercial for the 3-D version of The Nightmare Before Christmas. I gotta admit, I got giddy like a schoolgirl when I saw that it was coming out. I freakin' love this movie. One of Tim Burton's greatest films, period. Anybody gonna go see it when it comes out?

Natalie, perhaps you should take into context when the post was made. Capncrunk made that post shortly after Birdville, BEFORE Hebron put soulja boy on the field. You should not make snappy comments if you do not notice everything about the post.

Ok, so apparently I received some bad information. From what I've heard from a more reliable source, there was no penalty against Hebron. At this point, I kinda don't care anymore. They didn't make finals. That's that. I should just shut up and wait until we get the recaps tomorrow. That'll probably be a good idea.

The big names from this area are Dickinson and Friendswood. I'm not too familiar with any other bands.

And also the whole thing about different competition, different judges, different days, etc...

Haha, it's usually a penalty. How big of a penalty? I'm not sure. I'm guessing it varies on how far the band went over time. By the way, I'm guessing you go to Hebron? I was at the band hall yesterday with my sister. She gave a speech in front of everyone. I was the dude behind her who didn't talk.

Yes, it is Hebron's alma mater. That's why the band parents and alumni always hold up a claw thing in the air and wave it back and forth.
