  1. I agree. The years I was in Hebron, our visual/marching scores were usually what carried us. However, this year, the band director apparently revamped the rehearsal schedules to focus more heavily on the musical aspect of the show. I believe it paid off this year. During prelims of BOA SA, they got 1st in individual music scores. Honestly, I thought this year was the best they've sounded, ever. I think the scores attested to that, too. But yea, they still have a looong way to go before they get that beautiful wholesome sound of Marcus. Then again, most of the bands in Texas have a long way to go before they sound that good.
  2. Hahaha, the last few posts are really, really funny to me. Musicaidnow, if you wish to discuss last year's State Marching Competition, make a new thread about it, although it's already been discussed thoroughly.
  3. Their sound was a little bright for me at times. I prefer big, bassy sounds from a band. Also, Fata1, how were you NOT visually entertained?!?! That was some of the most ridiculous drill I've ever seen.
  4. Fly these kids over to America and let them compete with Bell, Carmel, Broken Arrow, and Marcus. Honestly, I don't know who would win. Difficulty and execution go to this Japanese band, by far, although show design is a little, eh. Still though, some drum corps don't have drill that demanding or clean. I think someone on the BOA forums said Music for All should fly them over and let them perform in exhibition. That'd be freakin' sweeeeeeet!
  5. Why couldn't you call this thread "BOA Regionals Patches" instead of "I HAVE A QUESTION, LOL??" That would've been much more effective. By the way, welcome to the site.
  6. You got these from the BOA forums, right? Yea, this is some of the most amazing drill I've seen. On top of that, sometimes they're double-tonguing and playing runs while doing 4 to 5's and meshes and spins. Incredible.
  7. When are the 1A and 2A finals? Edit: Grammar.
  8. Really? You and I must have a really different take on what a big sound is then. I thought Bowie and Bell blew the freakin' roof off the Alamodome. That's just me, though.
  9. Haha, aside from Marcus and Bell, I really enjoyed Churchill. That show was absolutely beautiful. The silence after Amazing Grace to let the guard work their magic was incredible. I also enjoyed Haltom's closer. Actually, there wasn't much I didn't enjoy. The whole night was awesome.
  10. The lullaby from Pan's Labyrinth. Yup, the one LD Bell uses in their show. Such an awesome movie and incredible music.
  11. I think it's great. That gives us a chance to see which bands are in semi-finals. Nice job.
  12. Yea, it's just like last year. Bell has one of the most well designed shows of all time, and yet a squeaky clean band wins. Broken Arrow beat them last year from just being way too clean. Same thing this year. Marcus dominated because they marched and played so well. I'm willing to bet that Bell's shows from 2004-2007 go into the history books as some of the best shows a marching band can put on the field over a span of a few years. Their shows join the ranks of PCEP from 99-01 and Marian Catholic from 88-90 when they set a record by winning GN three years in a row.
  13. I clicked on it and it's a dead link.
  14. Awesome. Can you add prediction up until the Saturday semi-finals? Or do they end once the prelims start on Thursday?
  15. A few really big bands follow Bell. SFA, Broken Arrow, Carmel, and Marian Catholic all go after Bell. SFA has been relatively quiet this year, but you can never count them out. Broken Arrow dominated the St. Louis Regional and Carmel just came off a solid win at the Indy Regional this past weekend. Marian Catholic got fourth, though that was the first time they performed almost 20% of the show. Never count out Marian Catholic. They're the only band in history to win GN three years in a row and have a total of 7 titles. They're notorious for peaking really late in the season. I still have faith in LD Bell, though. Bell, ftw!!!
  16. It really wasn't inflated, though. It was incredibly tight all the way down the list. There was only about a 6.5pt gap between 15th and 26th place. Incredibly tight.
  17. Yea, I'm not too worried about these bands making it onto semifinals. I'm pretty sure they'll all make it to there. Hopefully, they'll all get good semifinals slots and a good majority of them get into finals. Last year I was 100% correct on GN finalists bands. I hope I still have the sight.
  18. Are we going to put up some predictions for GN Finals? That'd be a nice last set of predictions.
  19. Thursday Prelims: 12:30pm Mabank 8:15pm The Woodlands 10:15 Ronald Reagan Friday Prelims: 8:45am LD Bell 10:00am Clear Brook 11:15am Stephen F. Austin 11:30am Richland I gotta admit, some of those times suck hardcore.
  20. I thought Bowie had a great sound. It ripped everyone's faces off. At first, I thought the band was really loud. Then the first true hit came and I literally said "Oh, *beep*!" Seriously, just ask anyone that was sitting around me. I believe I was close to one of this site admin's dad. However, there just wasn't enough contrast in their show. Everything was loud all the time. Plus, they sounded a lot like a drum corp when their hits came. Marcus retained their wholesome sound through the crescendos and when it reached the climax. I had Marcus ahead in music by a long shot.
  21. Yea, I noticed that. I didn't think the show was over yet, and sure enough, they kept going. Oh, well. I'm sure Chuck Henson was dead tired by the time Churchill performed in finals.
  22. Yea, the scores at this regional were insane. I mean, the 26th place band still scored over 80! Usually an 80 is enough to get you a finalists spot, if not top 15. And I don't think it was because scores were inflated. This regional was just too good.
  23. During my senior year, Hebron went down to Port Aransas for our spring trip. The resort we stayed at was the same one that Sherman was at.
  24. 16. Clear Brook 85.75 15. Langham Creek 86.45 14. Brazoswood 86.65 13. Collevyille Heritage 86.7 12. Ronald Reagan 86.9 11. Cedar Park 87.2 10. Haltom 87.5 9. Berkner 87.8 8. Hebron 88.05 7. James Bowie 88.55 6. Richland 88.95 5. Westfield 89.35 4. Winston Churchill 91.15 3. The Woodlands 91.25 2. LD Bell 94.4 1. Marcus 96.2 Hm, Marcus scored the same in both prelims and finals.
  25. The recaps on bands.org have been posted. Here's a link to prelims. You can get to finals by deleting the P after "txsaP" and adding an F. http://www.musicforall.org/Network/FallRes...ional/txsap.pdf Interesting stuff here... Hebron scored FIRST in individual music with a 19.5!!! That's probably the greatest news for me. They were eighth place after prelims. Here are the rankings after prelims. 16. Clear Brook 15. Langham Creek 14. Brazoswood 13. Collevyille Heritage 12. Ronald Reagan 11. Cedar Park 10. Haltom 9. Berkner 8. Hebron 7. James Bowie 6. Richland 5. Westfield 4. Winston Churchill 3. The Woodlands 2. LD Bell 1. Marcus Langham Creek was just .2 away from finals. I'll add scores to these later.
